Yucaipa Valley Golf Club
About
Nestled in the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains, Yucaipa Valley Golf Club enjoys a stunning backdrop on most of its holes. The beautifully maintained course is certified as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. Yucaipa Valley offers the unique combination of being both challenging and affordable, for this reason it's a local favorite. The layout is player friendly enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels. It's not terribly formidable but the greens can be challenging because of the slope and speed. There are also a few strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greensides and the occasional water hazard comes into play. The 13th is the signature hole at Yucaipa Valley Golf Club. This tricky par 3 has a severely undulating green bordered by out-of-bounds on the right and water on the left.

Great value. One employee could have been more pleasant.
All great except girl checking us in was not friendly at all. She was not very helpful and didn't explain how things worked. Some kids on the driving range explained how to use the code on the receipt to obtain the balls. I'm 76, female and weigh 105 and when I asked to get the golf cart because I couldn't carry my clubs, she made it seem like a big deal.
Staff Friendliness
The lady behind the bar was very friendly. The only issue we had was with the Marshall. He was very rude and disrespectful. I was in a group of 2 and we were behind 4 other groups of 3 or more. So pace was slow. We did not have a group behind us for about 1.5 holes.
Marshall rolls up to us and tells us “You need to tee off now unless you’re good enough to drive the green” and we explained that the group in front of us barely left the tee box to go find their tee shot (As he can see them driving away). He proceeds to tell us that we ‘need to show respect for the people behind’ and tee off now.
We explained that we will not tee off because we are not going to drive up on the group infront of us and be rude. He then drove off saying “Have some respect”
If this was our first time, we would never come back. We have had many positive experiences here but unfortunately this one was not
What happen to this course
Played this course 15 years ago when I lived here. We came back to visit family and this place is in really bad shape. Golf cart was absolutely a ticking failure. Though it would fall apart on us while we played. The golf course had dead spots on most of the greens. The fairways look as though the had cut them after a case of beer and couldn’t stay in line. Love the layout of this place and it’s a real shame to see it this way. Hopefully it can find its prime again. They actually played a Web.com qualifier here before.
The greens were horrible almost half of the greens had a fungus or something other than that I like the course
Could be better
The green was recently punched and it was as bumpy as expected. However, some of the greens have extensive bare areas filled with sands, I can only imagine how bad the condition was even before the green aerification. The fairway condition was not as bad. some area was over watered and soggy, but I don't recall any major damages. The bankers were the worst area of the course. They are very much mud pit and unplayable. Green fee was discounted due to the aerification, but I didn't feel it was a good deal at all.
I am sorry you did not feel the discount was worth the round. We have had substanital heat this summer and it has been a challange to keep the course in ideal shape. As we move into fall please give us another chance as the conditions will improve.
Great course…..what the heck happened?
I like(d) Yucaipa Valley. I like the layout and the challenging holes but until they get this course in decent shape, I’m not coming back. I’ve played some bad courses with bad conditions in the past but never have I seen greens this bad. All of them were aireated with sand coming through the holes. Couldn’t make a straight putt if you tried. Half the greens were sand, no grass which made them even worse. The fairways weren’t much better with high weeds all over and right in the middle of the fairway.
The bunkers were void of sand on some sections and had standing water in other.
The ponds on the course stunk with lots of algae and dead fish floating.
I’m not sure what’s happening here, lack of money, the course sold or they just don’t care anymore.
Too bad, this course used to be very nice. I’ll never return unless I hear that they start maintaining the course like they used to.
i am sorry you did not have the best experience here at Yuciapa. We have had extreme heat this summer and it has been a challenge to keep up. Please give us another chance in the fall as the conditions will improve.
So much potential to be a great course
For the price point, I thought this course was a good challenge, nice to look at, and good fairways. While playing the first hole, I thought I’d just found another course to add to my list of go-to’s, until I reached the green. I hate to say, but the greens were horrid. Wide aeration holes everywhere with more sand than grass and even big patches of dirt 10 feet from the hole. A course that’s nice shouldn’t have greens that bad. They outright unplayable, which made the rounds feel like a waste. If they had greens that were at least decent, it would be a top course in that price range.
unfortunately aerification is a requirement to keep our greens in good shape throughout the year. Please give us a couple of weeks to get the greens back in shape. We look forward to seeing you out again.
Course was not up to its past standards
I've played this course for years. I have always recommended it to friends because it was always well maintained. However, on this visit all of the lakes were full of algae and as we passed the pumping station we could tell that something was not working properly. We lost 2 balls just off the fairway because the rough was about 4 to 5 inches high. There were about 10 inch high stalks of grass in the middle of some fairways. The fairways had been mowed but the mowers didn't cut these stalks. There are some problems going on there; I hope they are only temporary.
It has been a difficult year in terms of weather this year. Please give us another chance in the fall as the course conditions will improve.
Good course
It was good course but some of green was in mid condition and fairway too.
Course in good shape
Recommend playing this course. Course and greens are above average, especially for the green fees.
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
I have played Yucaipa Valley several times and typically, I have always tried to not play it because the course conditions have always been subpar. However, my friend always gets me to play there. They seem to be trending in the right direction finally. Although the course was wet in some areas and greens were slightly slow, both probably to help protect against the high heat, the general course conditions were pretty good and greens rolled true just slow for my tastes.
The staff were friendly and professionally which helped.
I have one challenge with F&B is that they only had one hot dog prepped and ready at the turn. Now we could have called in but I don't remember seeing a sign to do so but this is a hot dog. When I checked in the morning, they had at least 20 ready to go. Maybe be prepared next time.
The carts are the absolute worst. Every cart available during my check-in had chunks taken out of the seat. Not sure if that is from wild life or just misuse. Furthermore, the slop in the steering felt like I had no control over the cart and had to almost steer it like the flinstones. Lastly, our carts in our group sounded like an ambulance when going forward.
I understand that the cart barn is just an outside open structure that is fenced in, but the condition of the carts is extremely unacceptable. For the price that you are charging for weekend play, the carts should look and drive a lot better. A monthly detail program just to keep the carts look good and addressing any maintenance needs.
As for recommending this course...it is a yes no answer. Until the carts are greatly improved, I won't be back nor recommend playing this course at the asking price. There are better courses with better amenities in the area for similar pricing. If they were to drop the price down to 55 on the weekend, I could see this being a lot more packed and people setting aside the cart issue.
I do want to say though despite the carts, I was pleasantly surprised how well the course conditions have improved. Chapman's....you got a nice clubhouse and event center, give the course a nice enclosed storage area for the carts and this can be a $70 - $80 weekend course every week and a solid competitor.
We appreciate your review of our property. We will be getting new carts in the next 30-45 days. Please book your next tee time soon to enjoy the new carts.
I'm sorry you visit was not more pleasant. Hopefully you will give us another chance to show you who we are.
