Mount Dora Golf Club
About
Mount Dora Golf Club is a historic, member-owned golf club open to the public, located about 35 miles northwest of downtown Orlando. The course began to form in 1945, shortly after World War II when returning G.I.'s petitioned the city for land to build a golf course.
A second nine was added in 1959 and the clubhouse was build in the 1960s. Set on just 85 acres, the course bills itself as "The longest 5,700 yards in Florida" thanks to an abundance of water and up and downhill lies that will demand precision over power.

Friendliest club I’ve played in US
What a friendly place - everyone was so welcoming and helpful. My wife and I loved it and will return soon.
Be patient
Teed off 15 minutes past our scheduled tee time due it being backed up. Pace of play is a big issue. Multiple groups waiting on tee boxes. Fun course if you’re willing to play a 5.5 hour round.
Great value for the price!
Fairways need attention but the greens were challenging
And divots were repaired. Pace of play was consistent and no waiting for an 8am tee time, no one waiting behind either. Staff very friendly and helpful. Most holes were straight out there with a few blind Tee off. Tee boxes need grass seed as do the fairways! Several side slanting fairways, bunkers were wet but soft. For a casual relaxing game I would go back and recommend to a friend. For a challenge and a higher cost look close by!
Good greens
Fairways are rough need some maintenance greens were very fast not a bad layout needs lots of work.
Tight!
Our first time playing here. It is very tight. Meaning, t-box and greens next to each other and more than one. Lots of chatter with putting and driving. We did like the layout as far as the bit of up and down fairways. The greens were in good shape however if you don’t land on top you may find you next shot from the fringe or further out. Some holes if you overshot the hole you rolled of. The back nine was more interesting than the front. I like #12. The staff were very friendly and my friend thoroughly enjoyed his cheeseburger!
Watch your Putting
Putting was a challenge
The greens were fast and many missed putts rolled right off of the green
There were many breaks that were hard to read which resulted in frustrating misses
Many of the greens had false fronts and doomed backs which resulted in balls rolling off the green after hitting it on the fly
The fairways were extremely hard and difficult to get under the ball
Don';t let the yardage and the par rating fool you, this course is tougher than it looks
Okay, it was cold for Florida...
Don't believe the yardage book! With four holes playing very uphill (I'm talking 50-100 foot elevation increase from tee to green), the course plays longer than you would expect. Both of the down hill holes are severely sloped, during at least parts, from side to side, and one of those pushes you into the only water hazard on the course.
This is a course where being able to work the ball both ways will serve you well (unfortunately that's not something I can do). Then, some of the greens have significant slope to them. The grounds crew needs to be aware of these, and manage green speed, and second cut height/thickness in order to avoid what I saw...which is people putting from above the hole, and rolling off the green, through the second cut, and stopping 20 yards away. If the course had been crowded, a couple of holes could easily have jammed the whole thing up behaving like that.
On a Sunday with temps at 11 am of 55 degrees and cloudy, I finished 18 in a little over 3 hours and didn't catch up to anyone until the 7th hole. So, my pace of play may not be the norm here. Course is fairly tight, but there are enough gaps in the trees that balls can appear from a couple of fairways over.
Greens were in good shape (but like many older courses, they are small), most of the fairways were also in good shape. The tee boxes in several cases needed some TLC. I only hit into one bunker, and it seemed to be in okay shape (not packed sand, and there was a rake).
I would play it again if it weren't over an hour away.
MT Dora Club
Old style course. Some very uphill holes. Hole #5 has an extreme right to left tilted fairway. Almost no water hazards. Pace can be an issue. Most recent round, we had a fivesome playing two groups ahead of us and they really slowed down the pace.
I love this Course!!
Does it have its issues? Yes! Does it need updating? Sure! Is it a good track? Absolutely!!
I play this course once a week and love it!! It backs up some - and some of the greens are IMPOSSIBLE - but I love it!!
Tee Time
The staff was awesome. The course was good. Couple of holes seemed a bit unrealistic with a high pitch and roll off. But I guess that's why I am an amateur.
Golf outing at Mt Dora
Really liked the course, but tee times are booked to close and then you are rushed to play.
Wanted to spend time with son , but paired with another twosome we didn’t know to speed play up.
Course ranger stopped to ask us to play as fast as we can after only the first hole.
Poor scheduling on clubs behalf.
Course was very enjoyable.
