Mission Inn Resort & Club - El Campeon Course

We decided that taking advantage of the discount recent aeration rate to play El Campeon would be a good value. Unfortunately, the course was not in good condition. While we expected the greens to still be recovering, which they were, that wasn't the problem. What we didn't anticipate was that most of the fairways - except for those on a slope - were covered with lines and piles of grass clippings and other debris that had been washed up by an apparent hard rain the prior day. Golf balls kept rolling into these piles/lines making it very hard to hit your next shot unless you picked up your ball and dropped it away from the debris. Even that wasn't the end of the challenge. Most of the fairways were so sparse or had been mowed so closely that it often was almost like hitting off hardpan. For the discount rate, it was tolerable but we'd have been upset if we'd paid the regular rate.

Born and raised in the area, I grew up playing high school golf. Very familiar with Mission Inn. That said it’s no where near what it use to be maintenance and condition wise. Plenty of courses in the area are battling drought conditions and looking much better for a portion of the price. First few holes and last few holes the fairway was absolutely flooded and it hadn’t rained for over 16-20 hours. Maintenance felt the need to following us for three holes with a blower when the course was wide open as well. I’ll try again in a few months. Hopefully, things are better.

The course is in mediocre shape compared to what i am used to at El Campeon. The greens are insanely slow and have tons of sand on them. I would imagine in 2 weeks the greens will be back to normal. Everything else is business as usual.

El Campeon is in rough shape. The greens are horrible. Dead spots and only a thin layer of grass on the "good" parts. A good portion of the tee boxes were horrible as well, not much grass. We've had a ton of rain in florida over the past month, way too much for this course to be in this shape. Need to fire their superintendent and get a new one. This course is down in the Swiss Fairways quality range now. Not worth more than $35-40.

It was my first time playing el campeon but it won’t be my last. I’ve played the other course a couple times but this one was a little harder. Elevation changes throughout. How are we in the hills in flat Florida? It actually has a Carolina feel with all the pines. Great course.

I played El Campeon this morning. Considering they punched the course a couple of weeks ago and it rained all day yesterday the course was in great shape. As usual I had a great time.

The course was recently flooded from rain. Waves of small debris in all fairways. But the price was right.

MY LAST TRIP HERE WAS PERFECT THIS TIME WAS A LITTLE DISAPPOINTING I KNEW IT WOULD NOT AS GOOD BECAUSE OF AERACATION WHO EVER DID THE FRONT 9 DID A TERIBLE JOB ACTUAL ONE OF THE WORST I EVER PLAYED ONIT WAS LIKE PUTTING ON BURROW HOLES NOTVERY GOOD THE BACK WAS MUCH BETTER I KNOW THIS A GREAT COURSE SWO IT WAS THING THAT WENT WRONG

Always a great course in Central Florida. A mist play if you are in the area. Staff is awesome.

Course was in great shape as usual. The only issue is the greens need another week or two to heal from being punched.

Overall the course was excellent… the greens need some work, but I get it.. they just aerated and getting ready for the winter time. Definitely coming back to check it out.

Great layout has summertime issues.

Hot wet conditions make for green conditions hard to maintain.

Staff is addressing issues so patience is needed on the greens.

Normally a go to for a great challenge!

Had high expecting s based on write up and comments but did not deliver. There was one beverage cart for two layouts. The water fountains and soda machines between holes were broken and not working. The greens were rough and many had patches. The final straw for me was the pace of play. When I looked at my wat h on the 12 tee, it had been three hours. I gave up and quit even though I was plying well.
