About

Type Resort

Length 7015 yards

Rating 73.8

The highly popular El Campeon Course at Mission Inn Resort consistently ranks in the top 10 of Florida's many golf courses. The course originally opened in 1917 and decades later in 1992, it was joined by a second 18-hole course, Las Colinas. El Campeon is not only one of the state's oldest golf courses but also one of its most challenging. The traditional design remains largely unchanged except for a renovation in 1926. The course winds through towering forests and numerous spring-fed lakes. The layout features water on thirteen holes as well as dramatic elevation changes that measure over 85 feet across the rolling fairways and undulating greens. The signature hole of the golf course is the par-5 17th. This lengthy double dogleg possesses more hazards than some entire courses do.

5 hour plus round for $150? No thanks....

Pace of play was abysmal. There was no ranger trying to get it to speed up. The course conditions were nowhere near the cost of the round of $150. I love the course, but the pace of play and cost were out of bounds.

Will NEVER play here again.

Was on vacation in Florida and was super excited to play this course, from the other reviews and photos it seemed to be a great experience. But, it was anything but that, I was paired up with two other players and I had my girlfriend with me (who was not playing) and when I got to the starter he told me to just go pay $30 and she could ride along with me.

I was totally fine with that and I went inside and I was told that the starter is not the “boss” that she is and I would need to pay $130 for the round extra to have her in the cart with me.

A EMPTY SEAT IN MY CART FOR $130 ?!

They were extremely rude and said there was nothing they could do that she would not be allowed in the cart and she would have to take my truck and “go find something else to do”. This type of behavior at any course is unacceptable.. and completely disrespectful.

The starter was extremely nice and apologetic and didn’t understand the reasoning for the front office being as unreasonable as they were.

Is what it is.. but I will not be going back.

Go to crooked cat instead.

Great design, solid conditions

Played Las Colinas in the past, El Campeón is the better of the two. Interesting layout, in good shape, greens are rolling true. We’ve had a dry winter so some areas where the should be water look rough but that will improve soon. Compared to the prices some courses are charging this time of year, this is a great value! Will play again.

Course is great, the staff are even better

From the start I’ve never felt more welcomed to a golf course. I really wish I had gotten the guys name delivering the carts because he was awesome. Course played pretty tough with 45mph winds so I gotta go back and try again. This place is spectacular. The layout, the amenities, the greens, just a great golf facility.

El Champeon Experiwnce

5 1/2 hour round … marshals were not engaged. Course was unmaintained. Traps missing rakes. Many other great courses in the area at same price with much better conditions.

Great layout!

The course is always challenging with great layout and in good condition. However when it comes to the back nine which has couple difficult holes, the pace of play become very slow!

Always a great outing !

2 great courses at Mission Inn Resort ! El Campeon is the more scenic with its elevation changes that let you see so much of the course when up high. The routing is interesting and the holes and greens always challenging. I never get tired of either course, and fortunate they are only a 25min drive from the very south part of The Villages, where we reside. Great deals on GolfNow and be sure to check out their discounted senior rate ( 55+ ) on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Staff was extremely helpful. Driving range was tore up and had limited grass. Had to hit most shots from sand filled divot.

Most Tee boxes were in terrible shape.no grass again and teeing off on sand.

Bunkers were inconsistent. Some were re-done and others were without sand

Given a recent streak of cold weather and lack of rain, El Campeon wasn’t having its best day condition-wise but I understand the circumstances.

I got a deal online and felt that was a fair price. Assuming the conditions improve dramatically, I would say the regular greens fee is fair to moderately high.

The layout is fantastic. Great variety of holes. Plent of uphill and downhill shots. Very challenging par 3s. And the finishing stretch of 15 to 18 is excellent (good luck on 17!).

Everyone I encountered was very friendly and helpful.

I was the first off the tee this day so the pace was great!

If/when I’m back in the area I would gladly play El Campeon again, and would love to add their Los Colinas course to my itinerary to make it a 36 hole day.
