Mount Dora Golf Club

You won't find much grass on the fairways at this course but the greens are nice if on the very slow side. If you are a single playing behind a foursome of older gentlemen with handicap flags on their carts, the day can drag a bit but they kept up with the foursome in front of them. I like this course because it's hard to lose a ball on the course though I managed to do just that. I find that there always seem to be a lot of really horrible golfers when I play there. That said, I sometimes don't break 100 either. Mount Dora Golf Club is a fun layout with water on only one hole but changes in elevation make the course quite challenging.

This was our first time playing Mt Dora GC and we were joined up with another couple who have played here many times. The course is being brought back to better condition although we found the greens to be in really good shape. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The layout was challenging and fun to play. Pace of play was a bit slow on the back 9, partly due to a single walking the course and playing behind a foursome. We will play the course again.

This course has increased their price to almost double what it was two years ago, without improvement. And it could be improved a lot. I rated it as challenging for one primary reason virtually every green is small and domed, it is as if they put a hole on top of a basketball. Landing a ball on the green and have it stay there is extremely difficult. Particularly the par threes. The fifth fairway is ridiculously slanted if you land a ball anywhere on the fairway it will end up in the left rough or worse. The right edge of the 18th fairway is lined with private property with homes being reachable by an errant drive to the right. I presume someone in management at the course erected a sign, (T Box) indicating any person hitting a ball into anyone's home would be responsible for any damage that might be caused. I am no lawyer, nor am I a judge, but it is my strong belief this is not true. For a player to be responsible for damages, there would have to be proof of intent. Nearly impossible to do. Both the golf course and the homeowner have the opportunity and wherewithal to prevent damages to homes adjacent to the fairway The player does not. Any number of factors can contribute to errant ball flight causing a ball to veer off the intended flight path of the player to strike anything and everything a property owner might place on his property. A Player has no control over what is on the property or where it is placed and therefore no liability. A homeowner would also have to prove the ball claimed to have caused the damage belonged to the accused. Nearly impossible to do without the cooperation of the accused. I believe the premise to be groundless.

My wife and I came to the area at the end of February and Mt Dora Golf Club was very amenable to a short term (2 month) seasonal membership (Thank You GM Will B.!) We have played a number of times and have thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The course offers a nice mix of easier warn up holes followed by a couple of challenging par 5's that include elevation changes both going down and up! The greens as one would expect of a public course built about 70 years ago are small and protected with false fronts and bunkers. Landing greens in regulation takes a combination of skill and a little bit of luck. The staff do a wonderful job keeping things well mown and ready for play. The course is well kept, clean and litter free. The staff have all been great! Pro shop folks friendly and helpful (gotta love Dorothy!) Starters are all knowledgeable and helpful and are good ambassadors for the course. Cart folks are thoughtful (bringing carts to early morning arrivers) and do a great job. Greens and fairway staff are great, non obtrusive and very friendly to talk to... Hoping I've not left anyone out! We are first year "snowbirds" and feel very grateful to have found Mount Dora Golf Club!

Love this course we drive from Orlando and Winter Haven .

I enjoyed my day. Everything was solid. My only complaint is the layout. Feels a bit tight to me. The fairways run into each other a bit. Often, other players were hitting off my fairway & we were sometimes playing off there’s.

I prefer not to worry too much about being hit from the side or possibly hitting someone else.

Overall - it’s a solid course.

Greens were in great shape. You have to be straight as shouts of fore were fairly common as fairways close to each other on some holes.

All in all a nice experience and a course my wife and I would certainly revisit especially for the cocktail deals!

Course was in decent condition, especially since there had been frost and freeze this winter. You can see work is going into tee boxes, new grass.

Slow pace of play for a popular Saturday. But - course was challenging & well-maintained. A fair mix of harder holes & easier ones.

Only criticism - a lot of overlap of fairways. People hitting on your fairway & you hitting on theirs.

Tee boxes and greens in decent shape - fairways a little bare in spots. Greens were small and most were domed

- where balls tend to run off the edges.

Biggest issue was the number of parallel holes, and how close they are to each other. Several times we had people playing in our fairway from parallel holes (we found ourselves doing the same a few times), and holes were close enough together that sometimes it was difficult to see where to go for the next tee (tees close together as well). While certainly not a totally unpleasant experience, it was the least likeable of any of the courses we have played inn the area.

This is a very playable track from any tee box,. Course is a little beat up in the fairways, tee boxes and rough. Greens are nice but pretty small. Pace of play was slow the two times we played it. Will probably not be back even though the staff and folks are very welcoming.
