The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes is a Tom Fazio design that is challenging, but with five sets of tees it is versatile enough for players of all skill levels. Fazio deftly utilized the native wetlands and numerous lakes that are interspersed across the landscape, incorporating them along the expansive fairways and angled greens. The tricky greens have been carefully molded and contoured to offer a variety of pin placements. In addition to the water hazards, there are also numerous strategically placed bunkers lurking throughout. The golf course will test your shot-making skills as well as your creativity. To complement the golf course, Hilton Head Lakes offers an equally impressive 36-acre, double-ended practice facility with target greens, bunkers, multiple practice greens, and even a par-3 short course.

Storm caused an issue

Great layout but due to the storm the night before, it was cart path only. Needless to say, if you didn't land near the cart path you had to walk. With my knee afflictions, it some of the fun out. Overall, had a good round.

Course is closed

Do not book here without confirming the course has reopened. They closed, from a fire?, but did not close it on GolfNow. Several GolfNow groups are booking and showing up to the course with them closed, and GolfNow is being difficult refunding money since the course is not responding to their calls.

Great value

My son & I live in Bluffton & have always returned to this wonderful course. Great pro shop staff, driving range & the course has a great layout. It’s long even from the white tee so for long hitter it’s truly long. It stretches out to over 7,200 + yards from the black. There’s also gold tees which is around 7,000

I’ll go back every chance I get to play !!

Good for beginners

Good solid course for beginners, wide fairways and not many hazards. The tee boxes can be improved and the first cut around the green needs major improvement.

$$$$ , for a 3 some with a 10 yr old, par 3 , 9 holes!

Green fee was $27 ea, with no discount for my 10yr old Grandson, considering the terrible condition the par 3 was in, this was not a good image for the CC in general! The Greens were in bad shape & slow due to their lack of mowing, tees were not much better! My $20 CC course is in much better shape here in NC where the drought is just as bad as SC.

This 9 holes was a big disappointment to me since I have played the Regulation 18 many times with great conditions!

Wide open course

The course was in decent condition for a fairly new course. Tee boxes were a little rough but just need some cleaning up. Overall we enjoyed the course. A few long drives to get to next hole that question the layout. I would go back since any of the problems did not make the round a bad experience.

Best Public Course in Bluffton/Hardeeville area

I have played at all the public courses in Bluffton. This course is by far in the best condition and actually has restrooms in buildings. Most of the courses either don't have restrooms on the course or porta-potty's. That is especially important to women golfers! My only negative is that we really needed a barcart to replenish liquids as it was super hot outside. It's a Sunday, make some money with a barcart!!!

Just a solid place

I was very pleased with the pace of play. Several of the greens are suffering and in need of work especially on the fringes. There’s just weeds all over. Many bunkers had standing water despite not raining in a few days. The tee boxes were in good shape and I can’t think of a fairway that was poor. Staff here has always been super friendly and for the price it’s worth the few shortcomings. I’ll be back!

Very good layout, average conditions, very long walks cart path to your ball if CPO

Played HH Lakes for first time - 2 days after significant rain. Course was Cart Path Only (which was right thing for them to do given how wet the course was in many places). Taking the time to write a detailed review as feel it will help people decide to play here or not, with explanation on things 'not good'.

The Good

- Layout is very good. Variety, well designed course.

- Staff (pro shop, starter, and bag drop person - very nice, friendly, and helpful.

- Greens were very good (couple bare spots but pins not near them) Has recovered nicely from aeration which (my guess) was about two weeks ago.

- Wide fairways - there are places you can lose a ball to left or right (some, but not a lot of water you have to hit over), but friendly off the tee - and never thought of hitting anything but driver on the par 4/5s.

- Nice practice facilities (driving range, putting and chipping green - the range was close the day I played as landing area was too wet.

Just worth noting:

- It is a longer course than most in the area - choose your tees wisely are you will be faced with many very long approaches and have trouble reaching the corners on the doglegs. I drive the ball 235-250 (with some roll, which did not get often this day) I played the white tees (@6200) and it played long, more like 64-6500 with the wet fairways and very little roll. I could reach all the par 4's in regulation but definitely hit more club into them on usual for a 6200-yard course.

The fair

-- You should expect to roll the ball. I had to with the wet fairways and many 'squishy spots' but the fairways have a lot of grass, probably 80+ precent Bermuda, and 15-20 percent some combo of crab/weeds. No problem with having good turf to hit from, but you'd get some rough lies in the fairways if playing it down.

- Only was out of the fairway a few times, but unless you were well off the fairway there was plenty of grass (more crab/weeds than in the fairway), but playable. Rough was enough to annoy you, but you could hit the ball from it just fine. Note - not sure how long since it has been cut due to recent heavy rain (not a negative, as it was obvious it was too wet for them to take mowers on the fairway/rough).

The less than good

-- Bunkers had sand, and were wet from the recent rain - but way more than I expected had a lot of standing water several inches deep - my guess is the drainage on not working on the as it should.

The bad

- Cart paths are as far away from the fairway on almost every hole as I have ever seen. It was Cart Path Only and if you have trouble walking long distances you should ask before booking a tee time. A couple times I walked to my ball which was on the far side of the fairway (in the fairway not the rough beyond it). I used my rangefinder to see how far I was from my cart, and I was 95 and 93 yards on two holes - while I only did that twice, I know I was 50-75 yards many other times. It was literally 30-40 yards to the fairway from cart path on most holes. I jokingly told the person cleaning my clubs after the round that they would be better off putting in new paths right down the middle of the (wide) fairways).

-------- The walking on CPO days will be more than some golfers will want or be able to do, and it also slows up play considerably as it takes time to walk 75 yards to your ball, hit it, and walk back.

-- Green collars - well there were none - crab (mostly) dirt, and some Bermuda next to the green edge. If you like to putt from a few feet off the green, you will have trouble doing it. I only did once but was 30 feet from hole about a foot off the green.

-- On course ranger - never saw one .... enough said.

- Pace of play - was slower than usual once we caught up with a couple foursomes - hard to say they were slow with regards to hittling the ball and actually playing but due to CPO and the distances the players had to walk to/from the cart path really adds to the time to play a hole

Overall - for less than $60 it is priced reasonable for area for what you get. Very nice layout, good green. The IF is that you can handle long walks if they are CPO the day you play.

Would I play it again - Yes - but would call to check on expected CPO or not for the day I was going to play if I thought there was any possibility it may be CPO

Hilton Lakes a Pleasant Surprise

We played just 9 holes. The front 9 was very long and challenging. The course conditions were wet, but we enjoyed the course just the same. The course needs a little TLC, but it was a really good value, as golf in Hilton Head is generally expensive. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will play it again.

HHLGC was fun.

I thought the conditions were normal for the time of year.

Has some really good views of ponds with beautiful Lilly pads with wildlife 🤩

Course plays long so play the right T box for your game.
