The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes
About
The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes is a Tom Fazio design that is challenging, but with five sets of tees it is versatile enough for players of all skill levels. Fazio deftly utilized the native wetlands and numerous lakes that are interspersed across the landscape, incorporating them along the expansive fairways and angled greens. The tricky greens have been carefully molded and contoured to offer a variety of pin placements. In addition to the water hazards, there are also numerous strategically placed bunkers lurking throughout. The golf course will test your shot-making skills as well as your creativity. To complement the golf course, Hilton Head Lakes offers an equally impressive 36-acre, double-ended practice facility with target greens, bunkers, multiple practice greens, and even a par-3 short course.

Beautiful golf course
The parking lot was full I drove around the lot two times waiting for someone to pull out, I had to park along the curb. The Marshall sent out the three that I got paired up with so I had to catch up with them on the 2 nd hole. I went to the bar to get some beers for the cart and no one was there. Other then that I enjoyed the 16 rounds.
Wide open
Nice course with wide open fairways. There are a few challenging holes that force targeting shots to make it more challenging. If you keep your ball in play, it’s a fun track.
Staff was super friendly and the amenities were nice and clean.
The greens roles true, but did have some growth issues that looked like they were being addressed. I say give it a try and enjoy!
Really good course
I’d rather make the drive from Savannah and play at HHL than almost any of the courses around here I love it
This course has a nice layout with lots of water, but nothing really unusual. Several of the lakes have alligators which is kind of entertaining. There are a few tricky holes with perilously placed sand traps. Some of the greens were under maintenance with large patches of sand. The snack bar at the turn was terrible. The group I was playing with had to wait 10 minutes for someone to show up and prepare a hotdog. That was really the most negative thing about our round.
The greens were all in rough shape. They were smooth but definitely not up to par.
Nice course and friendly staff!
This place is nice, about 45 minutes from savannah but worth the drive. friendly course, plays long i recommend it
Not the experience we had hoped for
We teed off at 1:15. The greens were in very rough condition. When we got to the turn they had closed the grill. When we finished the round they had closed the entire facility. My wife had to use the restroom and was told by the cart attendant that there was nothing they could do. When you pay the rates that they charge and they close all of there amenities to their guests, you certainly do not feel welcomed. We have been coming to HHI for over 20 years and we will take our business elsewhere.
Poa annua greens
It's apparent that Hilton Head Lakes does nothing to mitigate poa annua infestation on their greens as once again they are coming it. It's like playing plinko, watching the ball bounce and move around. Suggest avoiding this course till the poa dies off in early summer.
The worst greens
The course layout is very good nice conditions, except the greens are horrendous, so bad , staff are good EXCEPT THE Woman on check in so rude condensing, the group of us pre paid pre checked in I even showed her my reservation that was pre paid I had to show her my bank account before she actually accepted us, she was rude about our English accents and couple of Korean people with us. UNBELIEVABLE.
Horrible greens
Great layout, wide open fairways. Friendly staff. Absolutely the WORST GREENS I have even played on. Poa annua infested and no chance of making a putt outside 5 feet. Stay away until the heat kills it iff
Course and staff
The course layout is beautiful. The fairways are nice as well as the Yee boxes. The greens are horrible with poa anna grass making putting almost impossible, penalizing the golfer. That is why I would not recommend it to anyone at the moment.
The woman in the golf shop was rude. She did not believe our party was here because all of us did not come in
I told her we rode together and I had prepaid. She insisted that this was not proper check in procedure.
Not recommended for winter golf
I do not normally do this, but this course is in abominable shape currently. I've played there before in summer, so I figured its a nice course that does not break the bank, so lets bring guests there. In the end I refunded them their money out of my own pocket, It was embarrassing. To start, bag drop no one was there (it was mid morning, no excuse), we took our bags out and put them in the rack. They did load them on to a cart when we went inside, then expected a tip (hand was out) Sorry, nope, you weren't there to do your job. Check in was ok, zero personality, if you don't like your job, get another one. No starter in site for over 30 minutes, so we finally gave up and went out. Pace was slow due to one group of 4 women who we caught after 4 holes, and they started almost 40 minutes ahead of us. We had many holes where there were 4 groups on them. Them on the green, us in the fairway, a group on the tee, and then a group sitting in their carts behind them waiting. Never ever saw the ranger, though we found them and their cart at the clubhouse after. Fringe and greens were an absolute mess with Pua Annua grass, every putt bounced the entire way to the hole. Un-puttable. Bag drop at the end, the staff were finally attendant, and they asked how things went, and my wife, told them that was the worst course I've ever played. The attendant apologized and stated they know they are having a large problem with the greens and tee boxes. (So, charge less for now!!!) Can't really argue, as the course itself was in bad bad shape overall. Does not look like they are taking any efforts right now to fix anything, yet charging the same as they do in the better seasons. I have played there in the summers and it is a nice course, but currently, I have already told many in the last 24 hours to not waste their money playing there right now.
Disappointed!
Sorry to say I was very disappointed when I called the course today, not with the course itself but with the customer service! My wife and I come out here for Feb. and Mar, this is the only course we play more than once. I knew that for the last couple of years you have had an issue with the poa on the greens. I called today to see how the greens are this year were doing. The young lady who answered my call would not answer my question. All she would say was the course was in" good shape:, but refused to say anything about the greens. Again very frustrating from a course we loved to play!
