About
The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes is a Tom Fazio design that is challenging, but with five sets of tees it is versatile enough for players of all skill levels. Fazio deftly utilized the native wetlands and numerous lakes that are interspersed across the landscape, incorporating them along the expansive fairways and angled greens. The tricky greens have been carefully molded and contoured to offer a variety of pin placements. In addition to the water hazards, there are also numerous strategically placed bunkers lurking throughout. The golf course will test your shot-making skills as well as your creativity. To complement the golf course, Hilton Head Lakes offers an equally impressive 36-acre, double-ended practice facility with target greens, bunkers, multiple practice greens, and even a par-3 short course.

Not worth the money
Fairways are full of weeds, bunkers are bad. Pace of play was slow, no ranger. Greens were fine. No snack bar or restaurant open. Bad value for this location.

Wonderful layout, and very forgiving
My wife and I played here this afternoon, and it was a wonderful experience!! The staff were very friendly, and the course was in fantastic condition. I just booked another round for Wednesday afternoon.

The Course is Coming Back
The course was once my favorite in the area, but the blatant neglect rendered the greens unputtable. It appeared that they just didn't care, and the poana just had run of place. My recent play was a last-minute last resort option. I was very pleasantly surprised at the condition of the greens and the fairways, the best I'd seen in a long time. I actually recommend the course to the Commissioner of my golf group. I only hope they never let the course sink back to the condition it was in only a few months ago.

What happened to HHL?
What a shame. When opening years ago, this was a really nice course for the average golfer; wide forgiving fairways and decent size greens, made this a great place to play. However, in the past few years I have watched it steadily decline. The last two years the greens have had a huge poanna and disease problem making them literally un-puttable and now the fairways and rough are covered by 2-3 feet tall weeds. The range is a complete joke. No grass and they never move the ropes for where you hit from. I've played here 2-3 times in the past month and every time I've come out, there are huge clumps of grass throughout all the fairways and rough, like they're waiting to long to cut them. Some of the staff are pleasant but there are some new guys that are just miserable. No food or drink available. They have some hot dogs on a rotisserie and a case with drinks. They have a whole restaurant that just sits there and opens at night only; basically nothing for golfers. I hate to see this place declining like this. It's one of the farthest from the island so it was nice for a local to play as many of the other courses near the island are jammed. That won't be a problem for this place anytime soon. If you don't want to take care of a golf course like you're supposed too, sell it to someone who does. Do not waste you money on this place until they do some work on it or get a new owner, trust me.

Local rate
Asked about local rate, pro shop said no. No one on the course better offer a better rate for locals or you will be going bust…. Again!
Going to go bust? Why the 4 star rating then? Be honest, this is a 2 star course right now. They can't offer a local rate because the course is in such bad shape that they've already lowered the price because conditions were so bad...
Typical muni
Course has potential. Practice facility in terrible shape. Range looked like a cow pasture. Greens were rough. Weeds everywhere. If you are looking to go out and just whack balls, this course is for you.

Play Somewhere Else
I play this course out of convenience from time to time because it is the closest course to my house. I always regret playing here as it is more expensive than other courses and is maintained poorly. The course had been getting better but took a big step backward recently. I played yesterday and the fairways are full of weeds, the greens are in terrible shape and some of the tee boxes are also very bad. They only had one kind of soda in the pro shop and the restaurant had none. They won't see me back for a while. Funny thing is they sent me an email asking for feedback but you cannot reply to the email or even contact them through the website. They don't want feedback.

Very Friendly staff

Greens were absolutely terrible
Not even close to being worth 40$ for 9 holes. Will not be playing there again til prices lower

They need to focus on golf and not all the other stuff

Needs more work
Amenities are not sufficient to support the members or players. Lunch is now kind of being available Resident golf has been discontinued because restaurant doesn’t want to handle it. No longer have liquor available. Limited lunch is good but not sufficient. Outside deck is still under construction. The membership is not a good deal. The staff are FANTASTIC
