The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes
About
The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes is a Tom Fazio design that is challenging, but with five sets of tees it is versatile enough for players of all skill levels. Fazio deftly utilized the native wetlands and numerous lakes that are interspersed across the landscape, incorporating them along the expansive fairways and angled greens. The tricky greens have been carefully molded and contoured to offer a variety of pin placements. In addition to the water hazards, there are also numerous strategically placed bunkers lurking throughout. The golf course will test your shot-making skills as well as your creativity. To complement the golf course, Hilton Head Lakes offers an equally impressive 36-acre, double-ended practice facility with target greens, bunkers, multiple practice greens, and even a par-3 short course.

Wide open beautiful course
Great course, friendly staff, no liquor licence when we played as the clubhouse is brand new.
A Tale of Two Cities
Course is in great shape...kudos to the grouds super and crew!
Beautiful new clubhose and very nice looking restaurant...BUT seems to be a problem with getting someone in to run the restaurant with the ability to sell beer...I don’t mind because I don’t drink beer when playing golf but the threesome from New Jersey that I played with was not happy at all about no brewski!
Course Appraisal
As a 16 handicap golfer, I felt Hilton Head Lakes was a very fair course. The fairways and greens are large and help to keep play moving. There are obstacles, water, marsh, sand, etc., but fairly placed. I totally enjoyed the course.
Wide open fairways
Great deal greens almost fully recovered and rolling nice
Great views plenty of wild life
Good golf
The greens recovering from verti cut, however, rolling well
Wide open fairways and enough water
A pleasure to play
Great staff
18 holes 3 hours 40 min. nice pace
Very pleased
The golf course is in excellent condition. The layout of the course is outstanding . Staff is very friendly, pace of play was great. We will definitely be coming back to play this course next time we are in Hilton head .
I have played here a few times before and have always been satisfied with the course.
The Clubhouse is finished this year and has a nice bar and patio that overlooks the golf course makes for a nice “19th hole”. The course is well kept, bunkers neat and manicured, fairways reward you with a good lie (as they all should) and greens roll true and usually are fast on the weekends. This is not a PGA tour quality course obviously... but for around $40 you really can’t beat the value.
My current USGA Index is an 8.8 and I shot a 78 at this course from the Blue’s. It’s definitely worth trying at least.
Just make sure they greens aren’t freshly punched before you go because that will ruin your round no matter what course it is, and it’s going to be about that time for courses in the area to do that.
Quick breezy round
Have played this 5-6 times. I enjoy more every time. The range was closed due to a storm the previous day. Played our round in just over three hours. A few bunkers were holding water, but overall the course was in good shape after the windy stormy weather.
Perfect Round
course is in very good condition. Again only one recommendation -bunker- seems to be ha general habit that in mist if all bunkers in the HHI region is no or very less sand!
Good conditions but I was informed that it was cart path only because of fertilization to fairways an hour before my tee time. That decreased the value of my round. I did have many pars and 2 birdies.
Long, I mean real long!!
Long course. Layout is a bit odd. Course needs to grow up a bit. It will be great one day.
Disappointed
We were excited to play this course based on the 4.5 star rating. The course and area are very pretty. However, the course was in rough shape, had just been aerated, fairways had weeds and greens very bumpy. The clubhouse was lovely and new but the restaurant was was not open. We could not get any snacks or beverages. We wanted coffee as we went at 9 am. There was a cart girl on the course with limited snacks - chips chocolate bars - no sandwich’s . For those who enjoy a beer on their round they currently do not have any - clubhouse or cart, so bring your own. Additionally the driving range was closed so we could not hit balls to warm up. So it was Disappointing.
The potential is there
This was my 4th time playing this course in the past 3 months. Highlights - some of the most consistent greens in the area; the course plays long, shot placement is key - even though it looks wide open in many places. Lowlights - course drains slowly, so if there has been a heavy rain in the previous couple of days, expect cart-path only. The restaurant / bar is currently closed (no staff), and as such, there is no 19th hole, much less anything to eat on the property.
Definitely a track worth playing, but just know going in that the rest of the amenities are in a state of flux, with no timetable to get the restaurant / bar back open.

Didn’t know about aeration
We were not told early or when booked that they would be aerating and would have 9 holes closed. This should be told when booking. Course seems to be very wet both times I have played. Seems to be cart path only a lot. Greens were worst I have played in area in long time.

Punched greens and fairways. CPO. Wide open course but long.
Very wet conditions on front 9. Had to play front 9 twice. Back 9 closed after already booked with only 1 day advance notification from golf now. Back 9 had apparently just punched fairway and greens. Front 9 had been punched a week or 2 ago before round. So greens very bumpy on front. Traps all full of water from day before rain. Long drive from HHI and not worth drive even for $34 round. No one on course made for quick round.

Enjoyed our 10 holes before the heavy rain came
Just our 2nd round of the year. Wanted to play a value course to get warmed up. Have played at HH Lakes many times before. Always great value and friendly people.
They now have a fine new clubhouse and the pricing is moderate, not low. A number of nice new features on the course reflecting the investment being put in.
Due to the time of the year and the recent rain, we were carts only and the back nine was closed for aeration. However, was still in very acceptable condition.
Got 10 holes in and it started to rain heavily. Were given a rain check for 9 holes with no difficulty.
Looking forward to playing there again next week.
