The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes
About
The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes is a Tom Fazio design that is challenging, but with five sets of tees it is versatile enough for players of all skill levels. Fazio deftly utilized the native wetlands and numerous lakes that are interspersed across the landscape, incorporating them along the expansive fairways and angled greens. The tricky greens have been carefully molded and contoured to offer a variety of pin placements. In addition to the water hazards, there are also numerous strategically placed bunkers lurking throughout. The golf course will test your shot-making skills as well as your creativity. To complement the golf course, Hilton Head Lakes offers an equally impressive 36-acre, double-ended practice facility with target greens, bunkers, multiple practice greens, and even a par-3 short course.

Punched greens and fairways. CPO. Wide open course but long.
Very wet conditions on front 9. Had to play front 9 twice. Back 9 closed after already booked with only 1 day advance notification from golf now. Back 9 had apparently just punched fairway and greens. Front 9 had been punched a week or 2 ago before round. So greens very bumpy on front. Traps all full of water from day before rain. Long drive from HHI and not worth drive even for $34 round. No one on course made for quick round.
Enjoyed our 10 holes before the heavy rain came
Just our 2nd round of the year. Wanted to play a value course to get warmed up. Have played at HH Lakes many times before. Always great value and friendly people.
They now have a fine new clubhouse and the pricing is moderate, not low. A number of nice new features on the course reflecting the investment being put in.
Due to the time of the year and the recent rain, we were carts only and the back nine was closed for aeration. However, was still in very acceptable condition.
Got 10 holes in and it started to rain heavily. Were given a rain check for 9 holes with no difficulty.
Looking forward to playing there again next week.
Great course when it grows up
Lots and lots of potential. The layout is fair and no two holes are the same. Greens were ok but not tricky so could be much faster. Made you think off the tee box, some risk / rewards decisions and always a bale out if required.
For the money, best public course on 278 corridor
Course is consistently in good shape and rarely busy. Very forgiving. Great value
Course is playing really nicely now
3rd visit to Hilton Head Lakes, and the first time that it was not 'cart path only'. The course plays long but with it drying out, the ball is rolling more. Note - keep it in the fairways - in a couple of weeks, the Bermuda rough will gobble up the shots. Greens are rolling as good as any course in the area. Regular bunkers are in good shape - but there are a number of bunkers that have been abandoned from upkeep, but not converted to either waste areas or sodded pot 'bunkers'.
Pace of play was good.
Good Value
We had a 2:10 tee time. Teed off at 2:10. The course is in nice shape considering how dry it has been. The fairways are in good shape as are the greens, although the greens are very fast.
Play was a little slow but not unreasonably slow.
We would definitely play again..soon.
Thursday Golf
Great day. Pace of play slightly slower than usual. Old traps that they are doing away with need to be back filled and sodded. Everything else was great.
Coming along nicely
The course has dried out nicely. Everything is in good condition. I will start playing there more often.
It's hard to beat the value and it's a really good track when it is dry. I have played here several times and always have a great experience
Not so wet
I read that this coursework mostly cart path only. Not the case as we did bring a remote golf trolley and played the first 9. Good doll city was long between some holes and the front was even longer soarers between holes. SO DONT WALK
As for the course
It is plenty long and they still have tips. The greens are smooth and a real challenge. The fairways did have wet spots but few and far . There
teh greens are firm but great for putting.
All in all, if coming into Hilton Head from 95 it's the first development on the left so access is quick and no HH bloody traffic.
Definitely a $75 course all day long. wasn't alot of roll as the fairways are soft and stick on impact with a high flighted ball.
Nice and Long
Enjoyable round with good greens and course.
Played long for me even from the white tees. Most of the par fours were nice par fives for me! A nice challenge.
The course was still wet. It was cart path only. The walk from path to fairway was far. On every hole it was difficult!

Stay Away Until Drainage Problem Solved
We rate the course layout as a 5, but from there everything goes way down as Mother Nature has not been kind to this course.
Numerous reviews over the past several months reflect a major issue - soggy conditions. Interestingly the scorecard comes with a strip of paper stapled to it listing only 5 fairways you can drive on, leaving 13 where it's cart path only. This contributes to slow pace of play and frustrations at blind apporaches and finding wayward shots.
It's not the operators fault but someone needs to take a serious look at better drainage because the general rainfall amounts in the area are not going to change.

Too Much Cart Path Only
Course design is great and there are some beautiful holes...but the course seems to not drain well at all...there are far too many “cart path only” holes. We have been playing a lot of courses that are in the same area and none of them have had the wetness problems that this course has. We could see why carts are restricted because a lot of the fairways were very wet.

Very wet and very muddy...lift, clean and place!
Have been playing this course for over six years and have never seen winter golf so wet and muddy at this venue. Including the par 3's half the course was cart path only.
We have played this course a number of times in the past several months and it has been the same every time, wet and muddy. We have opted for lift, clean and place from the get-go, and so should you if you're playing here and it is still partial cart path only. And, even if it isn't, the fairways are more mud than grass.
At this rate I don't see this venue drying out before August...something isn't right here.
