The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes
About
The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes is a Tom Fazio design that is challenging, but with five sets of tees it is versatile enough for players of all skill levels. Fazio deftly utilized the native wetlands and numerous lakes that are interspersed across the landscape, incorporating them along the expansive fairways and angled greens. The tricky greens have been carefully molded and contoured to offer a variety of pin placements. In addition to the water hazards, there are also numerous strategically placed bunkers lurking throughout. The golf course will test your shot-making skills as well as your creativity. To complement the golf course, Hilton Head Lakes offers an equally impressive 36-acre, double-ended practice facility with target greens, bunkers, multiple practice greens, and even a par-3 short course.

Great course and value
Played this course twice this trip. Course has fairly wide fairways but still has some interesting holes. Condition was great. Two of us played in under 3 hours. Clubhouse is temporary but functional. After the round, the first beer was $1! This course about 35 to 40 minutes from Hilton Head but worth the drive. Fantastic value.
Still my favorite
I first played this course back in May 2014 and enjoyed it immensely. Wide fairways, ease of play, no real hazards to consider and the greens are very fair. The course has a wonderful split lay out - some of it through homesites and a good portion of it through the natural marshlands surrounding the course. I played from the senior tees this time and all the holes were accessible from them and it made my round quite enjoyable. My previous experience was from the men's white tees and that's what made this my favorite course, for the qualities described previously. There were some damp low lying areas, but these were few and far between. The staff at Hilton Head Lakes are very gracious and friendly. Combined with the relatively low fees all these qualities make for an enjoyable round of golf.
just ok
the area is in development stage, lot of work going on the golf course and around the neighborhood. the greens are in good shape, fairways just fine, layout is good but could not find something to highlight the round (a signature hole) I see no reason to go back soon... sorry, maybe just because I played the Savannah Harbor course before this one?!
Off Island and worth the drive
Course is far out from Sea Pines but a great value. Wide fairways and would be difficult to walk. I think maybe below sea level so a lot of rain will be cart paths only.
Par 4's difficult to reach in regulation for senior players white tees. at least for me 11 handicap
Club house temporary but adequate. Practice area greens, traps, and range very adequate.
shhh... don't tell anyone
Always a favorite....only few houses, links style, great value for the money. Sure the clubhouse has been under construction for years...but I went for the golf. Friendly staff....
Great greens
Great layout and interesting holes. Greens were really nice. Only disappointment was the clubhouse sign said it was "pin placement 1 today". It was for the first 4 holes then changed. There were enough undulations or elevation changes my eyesight didn't pick up the difference. I mentioned the oversight when I made the turn at 9, and was told to "just aim for the middle of the green." I thought, great advice, but you failed to realize that some folks, those with lower handicaps, might actually pick a different club.
Nice alternative in HHI
I played here today on the way back home to Atlanta. The weather was buetiful and was looking forward to playing here after getting a good deal from golf now.
First off the course is like 30 minutes from HHI so don't espect any types of ocean views or anything. But do espect a good atmosphere and good HHI alternative. Tommy Fazio designed the course in 2007 and is a good course.
As you drive in the course doesn't look like much but is actually really nice design. This is one of the only courses I didn't eat lunch at but I simply didn't have time.
The course itself was good not to much water but there was some, that is evidently filled with crocs in the summer. My favorite hole was 14 which was buetiful.
Overall for a lower priced Hilton Head option this is a good course coming in or out of the area. Reccomend.
Fantastic course! great great Layout, Quiet Back Nine!
How often do you only hear the birds while playing a public course? The back nine is fantastic. Great layout, fast greens. And so quiet. Beautiful course in great shape on the tee box, the fairways and greens. Bunkers are deep and full of light sand. Great pace too. Good price, and friendly staff.
Always enjoy playing golf at the Lakes. The staff are the best, very cheerful and happy to assist you.
The course is in excellent condition. This is a credit to the turf manager and grounds crew.
Great Course
This course has great value . I would play again next time I'm in the area
Nice course
First time playing here. Very nice. Solid course. Great greens. I will be back again
Tiger Mosquitos will carry you away.
We played after hurricane matthew and the course was in good condition given the clean up that was necessary. Staff were friendly and helpful. Pace of play was a little over 4.5 hours. The mosquitos were very large and very hungry. Not much fun swatting in between shots. We havent been back but i understand that the course has been sprayed and the Mosquitos are mostly gone. This might be a question to ask. Otherwise the round of golf and course layout were enjoyable.
Nice alternative
I played HH Lakes 4 times this past week - 10/30, 31, 11/2,4 and had a great experience. We have a vacation home on HHI and the courses on the Island were closed due to the recovery from Hurricane Matthew, which forced me to choose an off-island course and lead me to HH Lakes. Aside from the bunkers, many of which suffered hurricane damage so I am not going to gig them for that, the course is in excellent condition. It's not as scenic as some of the other low country courses, but there are plenty of lakes, ponds, streams, bogs and marshy areas and a fair amount of wildlife, i.e., gators, herons, etc. The HH Lakes community is still being built and a club house is being constructed.. The staff was friendly and attentive and the prices were very fair. I received 2 excellent lessons from Kole and recommend him highly. The only downer were the Tiger mosquitoes, which were aggressive, but the unusually warm weather was a factor and after the course was sprayed there were less of them.
Pack the bug spray
Course was in good condition. Layout has very little character. Mosquitoes eat us alive. When they ask you in the Pro Shop if you have bug spray and then sell to you for $10 it ought to give you a clue.
Thank you for your feedback and review. Hope to have you back at the course soon.
Wow this course wowed me
This course impresses you the minute you pull into the complex. The big Hilton Head Lakes community sign out front. The impressive high scale look to the community. So many new houses being built. I counted at least 20-30 new houses in various stages of construction you can tell this is going to be an impressive area. The course was beautiful with a lot of lakes, creeks, bogs and swampy areas. This came with a downside, the mosquito population was very evident and active big black striped ones. Being from Ohio something I'm not used to. There was also an abundance of wild life. I saw 3 alligators (one behind #7 green was huge). I also saw various hawks, a bald eagle, and an osprey. Wow!
Very good condition
We could not play on HHI due to hurricane Matthew and were very pleased with the option of Hilton Head Lakes appx. 10 miles off the island in Bluffton. The fairways were in great shape and the greens putted smoothly. The course is relatively new and the temporary clubhouse was sufficient for it's purpose. Staff was friendly and informative. We rebooked for a second round several days later. Price was a bargain for the course. Practice facilities were very good for warmup, did not gouge for range balls! $5 for a generous bucket.
Good course and friendly staff.
Tee time was early afternoon and the pace was great. The of play was was more than acceptable as ourFoursome finished in 3.5 hours. The fairways and greens are excellent.
No club house but the but that did not take anything away from the course and friendly staff.
Excellent! Glad you loved the course and pace of play was on point. Come back soon!
