The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes
About
The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes is a Tom Fazio design that is challenging, but with five sets of tees it is versatile enough for players of all skill levels. Fazio deftly utilized the native wetlands and numerous lakes that are interspersed across the landscape, incorporating them along the expansive fairways and angled greens. The tricky greens have been carefully molded and contoured to offer a variety of pin placements. In addition to the water hazards, there are also numerous strategically placed bunkers lurking throughout. The golf course will test your shot-making skills as well as your creativity. To complement the golf course, Hilton Head Lakes offers an equally impressive 36-acre, double-ended practice facility with target greens, bunkers, multiple practice greens, and even a par-3 short course.

Great vacation course
Course is in great shape. Course is right in front of you with wide fairways and big greens with huge breaks
The Great Rebound!!!
A few months ago, my playing partners and I decided we were not going to play this course due to the decline in conditions. The staff has always been great but the course conditions declined over the last couple of years or so. I found a hot tee time yesterday because I heard from a friend the place was in good shape again. Wow, were they right or what! The tee boxes looked great, the fairway was healthy and the greens very true (guessing an 11 or 12 stemp). Early in the year, poana had taken over these greens. Not a trace of that yesterday. I highly recommend playing this place for those who like the score friendly member tees or the challenging black tees. Great job to the grounds keepers and staff at HH Lakes!!!
Thank you for your review and thank you for giving our course another chance! We are thrilled that you have noticed the improvements our course has made and are so happy to have changed your opinion of our course! Please come back and play with us again!
Good shape
This was our third round on this course. The first was a winter round and the course was soggy leaving a bad impression.
Two weeks ago we decided to play again and were pleasantly surprised. At that time the greens had just been aerated so putting was annoying. Yesterday we returned again and I have to give them credit. Fairways, tees and greens were in great shape. I hope they keep it up.
Thanks for your review and feedback! We're happy to hear that you have come back and given us the chance to impress you for the third time. Thanks for playing, hope to see you for a fourth round!
Sunny
Played the course for the fist time. Experience was great starting with the staff. The course was fun to play with it large fairways, which were in excellent condition. upon reaching the green, I found the surface to be plush, though a little slow. I was able to complete my round in under 4 hrs. Pace was good. The only things I would comment on is the clubhouse and availability of drinking water on the course.
Thank you for your feedback! We will take your words into consideration. Otherwise, we are happy to hear you had an enjoyable experience with us! Come back soon!
If you're a good golfer, read this. Or if it's rained recently, read this...
It rained two days prior to our tee time and as result, two holes were "under water", as they put it, so we were unable to play holes 11 and 12. So, thinking I had purchased an 18 hole round of golf, we only got 16 holes. THIS important info, had it been available to me online, would have made me stay away from the purchase. I'm looking to post a full score for 18 holes!!! There's no reason why the manager of this golf course couldn't get on golfnow and place this info on the site as info to potential customers.
So, after the attendant told me we were playing a 16 hole golf course and I took gut punch #1, I swallowed my pride and said "ok, no problem. i'll take a large bucket of balls." "incoming!" Stomach punch #2... He said, the range is closed!!! Yup... the range is closed. I had my young son with me and this was his first time golfing in more than a year due to a sports injury, so I was coming to a facility that ADVERTISES they have a world class practice facility and 18 holes that stretched to 7,300yds... the clincher in my decision to buy the two tee times, because I wanted him to get some good practice beforehand. We came an hour early to hit balls. But, it was closed!!! When we drove the cart to the range they had a putting green (hadn't been mowed in a day or more ) and a chipping green (hadn't been mowed in days and days - shag carpet). And there were a row of hitting stations with a large expansive field that just sat empty.
The greens on the course were so slow it made putting the ball extremely upsetting. You had to blast the ball to get it to the cup and you just don't play golf that way, unless you're in the "pre-lawn mower" era. You'd at least expect the greens to be a) smooth and b) moderately quick - maybe a 9 or 10 on the stimp - but that's too much to ask I guess. These greens were probably rolling a 5 or 6. Felt like we were in the 1920's era.
Lastly, we were on the last par 5 on the front, and here comes this tattooed fellow on a large mower, billowing toward us mowing the rough on the course side of the cart path - he was gaining speed and no signs of slowing. We were clearly playing our shots and 99.99999% of mower operators on 100% of courses in the world would stop and turn off their engine, or at least turn it to low while stopped, because that's called "etiquette" but this fellow was mowing and he wasn't planning to stop. He made eye contact, and just kept going, blowing up all the dirt, grass and other particles WITH his open shute pointed toward the golf course (that we were playing). If he'd have hit a rock and that thing shot toward us and hit my boy I swear... Grrrrr!!! I guess he had an appt at the local ink shop that he wasn't going to miss. That was just icing on the cake to an experience which clearly shows the priority of this golf course, which has to be clearly a result of poor management.
So, I'll not be coming back... A shame too because the course has potential.
We are so sorry to hear about the multiple unfortunate events that occurred during your round. We would like to make it right with you. Please email us at hiltonheadmanagement@gmail.com to further discuss your situation. Again, we apologize for the inconveniences that you have dealt with.
The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes
I like to play this course when I am in the Hilton Head area. The pace of play is normally about 4 hours. This course is a great example of South Carolina golf! With its natural wetlands and wildlife makes you forget that you are on a golf course. The course seemed to play longer than the scorecard stated. Overall it is a great course and the price point can not be beat for the quality of the course. Will play here again.
Thanks for your review, TheCaptainOfFun! We are so happy to hear you had an enjoyable experience with us. We're looking forward to having you back!!

Fun course
Fun course. Enjoyed the layout. Women friendly
Play it if you can. Staff was a little light but course was not busy when we t'ed off
They need to have range balls on the range not the cart parking area
Make sure you take a cart. Walking would be ten plus miles

In my opinion this is the best course for the money in the Hilton head/Savannah area, not to challenging which is good for me but very easy on the eyes

I've never seen the greens look as good as they did on yesterday. Whatever y'all are doing, keep it up. Great price, great layout, great value for your money...

Needs work
To the course defense we played a day after a heavy rain and the course was awfully wet and was cart path only. Pace of play was excellent because there was no one out there playing. The greens in most part were in good except a couple were in rough shape. The fairways are very thin and not in very good shape.
Thank you so much for your review and feedback of The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes. We appreciate you taking the time and we hope you will continue to golf with us throughout the seasons. Come back and see us again very soon!
Awesome course

Great course for the money
HHL is a cart course. There are some long distances between green to the next tee. I have played this course several times, but this is my first review. It is a good course for the greens fee rate. The staff is first-rate. Will meet you as you pull in and will accompany you to your car when you leave. Even though it is set up in a subdivision, the homes do not come into play unless you are a hack.
Thank you Joffee for your review and feedback. Please let us know if you ever need anything and come back and see us again very soon!
From bag drop on everyone was very friendly and made you feel welcome.
Greens were in great shape and fairways are coming along (needed to thicken up).
Thank you tommy2tie for your review and feedback. Thank you for the 5 Stars! Come back and see us again as we would love to have you back.
Nice course
My wife and I enjoyed playing this course. They are currently going through some construction - new club house. There is a dirt parking lot - not an issue since it was dry. The two bathrooms on the course were porta-potties - full bathroom at clubhouse. The staff were friendly upon arrival and at check-in. They do have some warm up areas/range - nice. Saw alligators at a safe distance. No snakes were seen - that's a good thing, but told there are some out there - be cautious if ball goes out-of-bounds. Staff helped at the end of the round. No beverage cart during our round, which I did not expect on a mid-week morning. I did see one parked, so it's probably available on busy days/weekends.
Thank you Michael for your extensive review of our golf course. We are so happy you had such a memorable experience. Please let us know if you ever need anything and come back and see us again soon!

good day to golf
nice drive around a golf course on a beautiful day.
My wife had an emergency so we had to leave early. Pro was somewhat gracious.
Welcomer was very nice and helpful1

they need a resourseful ranger
5 1/2 hours!!! One of my favorite courses. Front nine took 2:45. I called in and they said the ranger was checking for a problem. We all found out when we finished there was a terribly slow foursome that ruined the day for everyone, but they were not addressed. I like this course. Since they rely on tourist for some of their traffic, they need to be responsive to situations like this word of mouth means everything down here. Better to warn, then remove slow golfers, than lose future returnees.
Thank you jimgrover1 for your review and feedback. We are sorry to hear that pace of play was a bit long due to some golfers that were not properly managed. We work very hard in ensuring a pleasurable golfing experience for all of our guests, but sometimes these little mishaps can get away from us. Nevertheless it is no excuse and we appreciate your patience. All said and done you had a good day and we hope you will continue to golf with us throughout the seasons! Come back and see us again soon.
Thanks for the review! We're glad to hear you found our course conditions to be pristine. Come back and play with us again soon!
