The Trails of Frisco Golf Club
About
The Trails of Frisco golf course is one of Jeff Brauer’s most unique designs -- primarily because it doesn’t fit the mold of his other courses. Brauer, who’s known for his open, straight-forward courses, designed this one to tip out to a par 71, 6,900 yards, loaded it with hidden creeks, scenic wetlands, extensive bunkering, and massive greens. In fact, first-timers will be confused here. They’ll face intimidating views off the tee that leave doubt as to the problems that loom ahead, and it is definitely possible to lose all of your balls off the tee if you’re struggling.
The golf course is just flat-out challenging, especially on the front nine. No. 1 opens up with a creek on the left that cuts in front of the green and generally makes its presence known on every shot. The play here is to stay right and stay away from its subtle presence on the left side. The creek comes into play on Nos. 2, 4, 5, and even No. 9, where it chutes from the fairway in front of the green and surrounds the green of this challenging par 4.
All told, water and waste areas are in play on 16 of 18 holes (including every par 3), and the creeks are enhanced by visible lakes and ponds on the back side, even though it is considered a bit easier than the front.

Golfer Reviews
Go to course for me
This course is within a few miles of the house. Layout is challenging. There are holes you must lay up on or end up in water. Fairways and greens were nice. You can tell some that the greens are changing from winter to summer grass but without dead spots. Tremendous job by the crew.
Everything was great with the course the only issue we had was speed of play. Got super backed up on the back 9 waiting 5-10 min to tee off. Left because was taking too long. Didn't seem like staff was very timely or strategic to speed it up. They weren't pairing twosomes up and Marshall didn't say a word as he passed us a couple of times.
Enjoyable course, in good condition
Played on a day when the weather forecast was showing 90% severe weather, and there were few players at the course. The weather held off, it was fairly windy, but we never saw another group, and played quickly. Fairways are in great condition, greens are fine, some rough spots, but putt well.
There are multiple holes where a lay up off the tee is required (somewhat frustrating, as I hit a 5 iron on one and overshot the fairway, ending up in the hazard). On the 18th hole, a beautiful drive down the middle can easily leave you in the hazard to the left.
Overall a very enjoyable course, extremely friendly staff, course is in good condition. A great value for the price, will definitely play again. And again.
Love this track
I love this track. It's a great design. This course does not have 1 hole which was 'stuck' in there because it was the only thing that would fit. Each one has its' own character. The greens were a little browned out & dry, rare for this time of year. They did roll pretty well though. And unfortunately, this clubhouse has an odor in the bathroom area that needs to be addressed. It's been that way for a while. But this is a great track, great value & a nice staff!
Staff?
Sunday with weather in the 70's.. no cart services, at the turn they had no food other than peanuts and candy. So much money left of the table, major opportunity lost. Will not be returning. Course is nice but not worth it for non existent customer service.
Fairways in great condition
Had not played this course in several years and found the greens and fairways in great condition.
Staff was were friendly particularly the Starter.
Great price for a great course
Couldn't have asked for a nicer day. For the money, well worth it. Course is somewhat challenging and with very nice water holes.....
Great experience
Great condition. Good balance of easy and challenging holes. Don't need driver in many holes.
Another windy day
It had been about 3 years since playing this course and forgot what a great layout it is and requires you to play every club in the bag. Lots of target golf shots. They re-did the bunkers some time ago which was a always a complaint of mine on this course and helps to make this a must-play! The greens are very dormant but hold well and run true
Shame
Was one of the original members of this course back when American Golf owned it before they sold it to Palmer Group and then the current owners. Really sad to see how this course has deteriorated over time, bridges damaged 2 years ago with no apparent plans to replace, cart paths almost worse than Twin Creeks. The course itself was in decent shape for this time of year but fairways are tight, greens rolled well, and there was actually sand in the bunkers.
Would recommend - but not right now
Came here in late November and it blew my mind how great it was! Not so great in mid to late March despite the mild winter and recent great weather. Other recent reviews are accurate. Practice green is super fast. First green was slow, second was fast, third was slow. Inconsistencies were huge. Also, the greens were various shades of brown. Hard to read due to such discoloration throughout. Once lush and green fairways are now green and hard. Some balding around edges of fairways/approach to green. I was obviously disappointed considering the course was great in late November versus "spring break" time in March. Anyway, recent reviews are accurate, practice range is nice, concessions are nice, no concession carts today. Take a practice putt on the first few greens just in case they're still out of whack.
Nice Course
Greens weren't in great shape but it's February. Been out here before in May and Course was wonderful. Great Layout, good challenge, must shape some good shots and drives to play well. Definitely one of the better affordable courses in Dallas area.
Marshall's wonderful performance while play
The starter was so kind, efficient and friendly in the situation of slow pace ahead of us.
An old gentle Marshall patrolled several times and controlled properly with warm attention and smiles.
We could make wonderful play with newly paired player .
I appreciate the Marshall's excellent performance and help again.
Definitely will play there in the future.
Thank you
I will not return!
Marshal was rude and unprofessional. Strutted around the course with a major chip on his shoulder. Many other options to consider in N. Dallas without having to endure marshal with an attitude.
