Frisco Lakes Golf Club
About
Frisco Lakes Golf Club is a part of the Del Webb Frisco Lakes Community, just north of Dallas. The front nine of the course is interwoven with the community itself while the back nine sprawls across open countryside. The five sets of tees range from just over 5,000 yards to just over 7,000 yards, allowing the golf course to be played as a leisurely round or a formidable test. The challenging, well maintained greens are the course's most memorable feature. Golfers should be prepared for a back-to-back peninsula green and island green on the seventh and eighth holes. The 14th is another tough water hole that runs alongside Lake Lewisville. Water is not the only hazard at Frisco Lakes Golf Club though, there are also plenty of strategically placed bunkers throughout.

Not Priced Fairly
We were excited to get a tee time on a holiday weekend so first and foremost we were excited they let us play and use a cart during this pandemic period. They mentioned a few greens had root problems they were working through. Every green had problems. Big problems. They were left fuzzy to allow for growth and every roll had kind of a hop skip and run to it. All that would be fine if we were told that and if the greens fees had been adjusted. It was worth about $30 and we paid over twice that. Maybe they discourage visitors since this is a retirement community so maybe its semi private. It is nice and quiet out there with big wide fairways, few water hazards and a bunker here and there. It's nice and green too but the greens are a mess.
Terrible Greens and ripoff price
Played Frisco Lakes which has been one of my favorite tracks in the area around Plano, TX where I live. Love the layout. Hadn’t played in a while because of stay at home order ands was closed for a while. I was shocked at the condition of the greens. Was like putting on cobblestones. They need to dig them up and start over I also believe they just keep ripping propel off by not discounting the fees with the greens basically being unplayable. Although I would not spend even $20.00 to play this course now. Sure glad I don’t have a membership there as I would be extremely upset at the conditions.
Decent course, terrible greens
I’ve played Frisco Lakes a handful of times, and each time the greens have been in worse shape. Half of the green on the front nine had fresh sod laid. Mid-May in Texas should be prime conditioning for most courses. This experience was completely disappointing.
Course is in poor condition
Greens are terrible, dead grass, bumpy, impossible to get a good roll. Bunkers were redone last 2 years, sand is crusty and hard, very infrequently raked. Fairways have thin grass, is mowed too frequently, not adequate water and apparently fertilizer to promote good growth, cannot get good lie on the fairways. One of the more expensive golf courses in the area, not a good value.
Unplayable greens
Used to be one of my go to courses for Frisco area. Disease or poor care has ruined the greens and rendered them unplayable. I can’t believe they charge 70.00, it’s an absolute ripoff. Guy in the pro shop said they had just been “punched” but that was clearly not the case here. So not only are they bad caretakers they are dishonest when asked about conditions. Won’t be back
Awful Greens
Greens are in terrible shape and no one bothered to mention it to us when checking in. Beautiful course otherwise.
Terrible green complexes
Greens are in really bad shape. Everything else was fine.
Very slow food service. Took 35 minutes from order
Placed to food delivered at the turn.
Greens are not Good
I've played this course for nearly 10 years, and it's always been a good place to play. To start, they didn't show my reservation, and the gave me attitude about it. We asked for two carts, and they said no, but were giving two cars to others.
The tee boxes and fairways look good, but the greens are the worst I've ever seen. They have been completely mis-managed, and we ended up playing with the former Asst. GM, and he was just as disappointed as we were. We were never told about this condition.
It will be at least 6 months to a year to correct this issue, and we won't be back until them.
Greens need some love
Greens were un-puttable. More sand on the greens than in the bunkers. Starter said there was some type of worm infestation that killed a majority of the greens. The starter was very friendly and apologetic, as he checked in on us multiple times. With certain restrictions in place, only two players were able to ride carts. The other two players in the group had to walk. This would be totally fine if the rate wasn’t $55 (same amount as the players riding paid.) There was a refreshment station set up at the turn with alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks and snacks. The only problem, was that there was no one working the station. We waited for about 10 minutes, but left with no service as we didn’t want to slow pace of play. Overall, less than stellar experience if you compare the price to the actual value of playing at frisco lakes. Check out trails, which is a much better value for the price.. Or check out the tribute. Hope to see things turn around at Frisco Lakes soon.
Need to shut it down for a few months
Let me preface this by saying that this used to be one of my favorite courses in DFW. A really cool layout with a lot of really fun, unique golf holes. The par 5 layouts are spectacular. Unfortunately due to what appears to be disease, this course is unplayable and should be shut down for a few months or SIGNIFICANT discounts should be offered.
The greens are in the worst shape you'll ever play. Either completely covered in sand, or so gouged and bumpy from irrigation that putting is completely pointless. After playing the second hole yesterday, I actually had to shake off my putter as if it were a wedge I'd just used out of the bunker. To make matters worse, the fringe and areas are around the greens are just clumps of weeds making putting off the green or chipping almost impossible. Finally, the two-foot tall flag sticks with an orange flag give the course an almost eerie, hazardous look, like you shouldn't even be there.
I hope this course comes back because I played it often in the past and it was in terrific shape. That isn't the case. If you see anything over a $25 Hot Deal, this course isn't worth it.
Greens need help
The greens are in very bad shape. They appeared to have had some kind of disease and in need of help or completely replaced. Balance of course was nice, golf carts new, and facilities are good. Until the greens are in much better shape, the price is too high for the quality of course.
Greens Unplayable
Normally a great course but all greens currently unplayable, avoid unless it is your last resort. Should be a warning or greatly reduced green fee.
unbelievably bad greens
Hello,
The greens were unbelieveably bad. There were patches on every green that were bumpy, dry, brown and often times unplayable.
We were not upset about the damage, Its mother nature and nothing can be done. What was upsetting was there was no prior communication of the issue. They charged full price and did not provide full disclosure on what we were buying. Additionally, the pins could've been placed in areas of the green that were not as affected. It was clear they had no intention on doing that.
will NEVER play this course again.
Bad greens and poor management.
I know it’s Covid season and all but this was just bad. Paid $73 on golf now to play and was surprised to learn the course was open even after 2 inches of rain the night before. They let me go as a single in between 2 foursomes which made pace of play torture. The greens were full of disease and bumpy followed by temporarily cups and flags standing about 2 ft high. There was standing water everywhere and to top it off they charged me $23 extra for a rider I had with me. Overall just a poor experience.
Very good... except.
The course is in very good condition EXCEPT the greens. There has been more sand than grass On these for the last month. And it continues to be extremely sandy.
The tees and fairways are green and in great condition.
Save your money
The greens are just below terrible. Barely playable. Staff is not at all embarrassed about charging full price in spite of the horrible conditions. The attitude matched the greens conditions. Also, it’s face mask everywhere in pro shop and club house. Save your time and money. Lastly, the Canadian Geese are not fooled by the fake coyotes
Greens are dead.
I never thought I will post something like this about Frisco lakes. I don't know what happened, this course used to have one of the best greens around, but know the greens are dead, they have a lot of sand, something not uncommon around this time of the year but they have no grass, 50 % of the greens have no grass. You will think the course is going to be in great shape because not a lot of people was playing but is the total opposite.
Another issue is they don't tell you you have to walk, because they only give you one cart per twosome. The other courses in Denton county, give you a cart per golfer, but they don't do it and they don't tell you in advance so you can come prepared.
Really disappointing, it's a shame.
Greens were a joke
Literally the worst greens I have ever played on in my life. Made the round a waste of time. Putting was impossible. Patches of grass and dirt with bumps and inconsistencies all over.
Find another course
for such a great layout they sure fall short on everything. The greens were in terrible shape. They don't tell you until you're on the starter box that they dealt with slit disease on the greens. But in reality the greens are completely destroyed and they're starting from scratch. We ended up playing a two putt max because it was watching blinko as the ball bounced around the green. The staff isn't very considerate of any sort of hospitality experience. Pace of play is always stacked up. So if you like 5 hour plus rounds, this may be your course.
Such great potential if they cared about the course and how they treat their guests.
