Heritage Ranch Golf and Country Club
About
Heritage Ranch serves up an especially challenging par 72, 6,988-yard Arthur Hills design that rolls through the oaks and pecans just outside of Fairview. And while it’s part of a gated, active-adult residential community, the course is open to the public and especially fun because it integrates well with the neighborhood. Houses line some fairways, but a fair number of holes provide that natural, rural feel that is always so welcome on a golf course.
While the course is not particularly demanding off the tees, the real challenge at Heritage Ranch comes from the mound-shaped greens. If your irons aren’t dialed in, you’ll be working hard for ups and downs.
No. 1 is a unique opener because it bends left down to a fairway and green that aren’t visible from the tee. Big drives can get close, but the recommended play is to take a long iron and draw it over the hill.
The par 5s on the front are nice holes. No. 3 doglegs right and requires a good tee shot, followed by a relatively easy second shot into a widening fairway toward the hole. The trick is nailing the short iron (almost a blind shot) into the elevated green guarded by bunkers on the front. No. 7 is longer and offers a good chance for birdie, again because of its wide-open nature.
No. 16 is the signature hole: a par 3 masterpiece that plays along a natural spring waterfall. You’ll need to nail a long iron over the valley and avoid the trees that overhang the fairway from the right.
No. 18 is a good finisher–it’s a long par 4 that doglegs left around a few large fairway bunkers, then works its way uphill to an elevated, mound-shaped green surrounded by bunkers. Ups and downs are possible here if you miss the green back left, which is easy to do when you approach with a fairway wood.
Getting there : Only 20 miles northeast of Dallas, take I-75 north to the Stacy Road exit, then turn right and drive to the dead end. The road jogs to the left, then right, and continues as Stacy Road. The entrance is 2 miles down on the left.

Great daily fee golf
As conditions continue to suffer at most Dfw daily fee golf courses, heritage ranch shines. Conditions are really good. I do not believe there is a better daily fee experience. You'll have to go to privates to get a better layout and conditions. Service and amenities are good, not great. Drink cart last call was at 2:45 on a Sunday in 95 degree heat??? Not much else to complain about. Great value too at $50 INC cart.
Roundabout
I booked the hot deal and went off just a little after noon. Hot deal was appropriate because it was blistering hot. Pace of play is very important to folks there as our starter emphasized it several times and provided us with a printed sheet telling us our expected finish times for each 9. The course was in excellent condition. The greens had been aerated about two weeks ago but had come back well and were firm and fast. The course is fairly open but still has plenty of challenges. It wasn't crowded in the afternoon due to the heat and we didn't encounter any groups until the back 9. Regarding pace of play, we finished just under the 4 hours and 20 minutes the starter said they were seeking. One of the things that slows down pace of play is the layout itself. The course is built in a residential community and some of the commutes from a green to the next tee are quite lengthy and if one is unfamiliar with the course confusing. It would be difficult to walk this course. That minor criticism aside, I enjoyed the course and definitely plan to return for another round.
Great conditions
I hadn't been to Heritage in about 6 years. Now that I live up this way, I will be back. Great conditions - bunkers, fairways, tees, and greens. Very lush and green. Greens rolled perfectly with lots of undulations. Service was spot on, food was good, and the cart girl (woman) was nice and flirty. The back tees are not too penal here, just allows you to hit driver where the other tees do not. I loved the course. Pace was ok for a Sunday mid morning (4:25). Will definitely be back, especially with a golf now discount.
Great course. One of the better courses in DFW
This course was great. Played a little long from the whites at just under 6500 yards, but I will definitely be back.
I LOVE the course layout and how every hole was different. I got to use every single club in my bag which is very rare. This course isn't easy but it is pretty open. I thought a lot of houses would be in play but there weren't near as many once you get on the course.
The greens were rolling EXTREMELY fast so be ready for that. They were in great shape for this time of year as well.
The restaurant inside was also great. Overall a great experience and I'll be back.
Fast greens
Very tough course. Excellent conditions. Greens very fast but also very firm.
Course-9 Pro Shop - 2
Course gets a 9+ for condition, layout, and pace. However the Pro Shop head gets a 2. The day I scheduled this round it had flooded some of the holes the previous day, closing 5 6 and 7. I asked if they are discounting any of the rounds due to closed holes. He became very rude and referred to me as " You Golfnow People" and said no and that he wouldn't get into it with the Golfnow group. I drove 1.5 hrs from my home to play this course - but never again. No wonder the game doesn't grow. If you want to play a great course - look into Squaw Valley in Glen Rose - well worth the drive and friendly people too.
Nice day
Greens were a little slower than usual but overall course is in excellent condition
Great layout!
This is a great course for all levels....just play your correct tees.
It looks like you can play longer, however this couse will eat you up if you can't hit your long irons or chip off the tight lies around the greens.
Plenty of chances for birdie.......and for bogey!!
Some blind shots that are true to the yardage from the cart gps.
Knowing the course will definitely help ....it's a shotmakers course. Out of position makes for a long day of scrambling!
A course with some character
First of all, the course was in great shape. While other courses at this time of the year have terrible greens (from aerating/sanding, etc), HR has managed to keep the greens playable (although somewhat slow). Pace of play was excellent (just under 4 hours). It has somewhat open fairway landing areas but changes in elevation and doglegs make this course somewhat challenging, especially for someone who is not familiar with the course. Strong winds, which is the norm for this area, with different speed/direction at various elevations also contribute to the challenge. Overall, definitely one of the top ten public courses in north Dallas area.
The greens were like ice. Ball would not stop on the green. Land 10 yards short of the hole and end up off the back of the green.
Great Course
Course is laid out well. Fairly challenging with a few narrow fairways, well placed hazards, and narrow greens with hidden slope. Good course. Would recommend!!
Great course
I found this course on golf now and went there because of the high ratings. I was not disappointed in fact I Golfed here four out of the last five days. It has a great layout, greens are amazing for roll and speed a little hard so you better be landing your shots short. As for difficulty it is not easy. I really liked this course everyone was friendly including staff and members I was paired with. There's a variety of tee boxes for everyone and I recommend taking advantage of this or the course will take advantage of you.
Great Course
Definitely one of the best courses on here. Only complaint was the concrete greens. They read true and have good consistent speeds, but are so hard you can't sit a chip or iron shot to save your life. Played last summer and they were soft, about time to start watering.
Heritage Ranch Review
Great golfing experience this past weekend. This course is not very long, but it demands pin point shot placements to achieve low numbers. Greens in great shape and fast. Highly recommend this course, can't wait to play it again.
So you think you're good!
Oh well, doesn't look like much but watch out the course greens are just tough. Time after time I kept coming up with bogeys instead of pars and I'm a 5 handicap. You better get ready because if you're looking for an easy course then you're going to the wrong course. On the contrary, get ready to get challenged because you better play your best if you want to go low! Visually, it's out in the sticks and that's the beauty of this course, I really enjoyed that get away feeling. I'm sure you'll enjoy it too!
