Palatka Golf Club
About
Neighbor to the beautiful Ravine State Gardens, Palatka Golf Club offers a game that is as scenic as it is entertaining. Designed by Donald Ross in 1925, the golf course was created with all skill levels of golfers in mind. The layout is player friendly, but there are still many challenging elements to keep golfers on their toes, including Ross' signature "turtleback" greens. There are also numerous bunkers fiercely guarding the greens. The signature hole of the course is the par-3 third. This 188-yard hole is a test of accuracy, requiring a difficult tee shot to a well bunkered green. Palatka Golf Club also offers a unique aqua driving range for golfers to use.

Brains before brawn
Classic Donald Ross, not long but deceptive from 100 yards in. You definitely need to double check distances, often you are farther from the hole than you think. Add domed greens and fiendishly placed bunkers, trees that protect greens from off line shots. The greens are in excellent shape for this late in the year with many subtle breaks. The course has survived two hurricanes in good shape. Not a typical flat Florida layout, it takes advantage of its location next to Ravine Gardens State Park.
Played in 3 hours then had time for good food and beer when we were done.
Try it, you'll have a ball!
Excellence
Historical course in excellent condition and great staff.
This course has great features
Course is looking pretty good after the weather problems in Florida with hericsnes and such.
The course has some interesting holes
The staff is always very friendly. Front 9 was clear sailing. The back 9 slowed down considerable. Not sure of reason. There was a group on every hole. The course has some easy holes and some that will challenge the average golfer.
Donald Ross courses are always a nice experience
The course was in a very good condition compared to earlier years. Good , reliable greens, the fairways were ok, speed of play was fast. I will come back.
Short doesn't mean easy
Great Ross layout, smallish greens, lots of subtle slopes. Bring your A game for approach shots, mediocre won't work here. Course conditions are what you'd expect if you paid twice the gen fee here.
Great course
Irma knocked down and killed several trees but the course was in good shape. Almost done with the practice green which looks great. Hole 11 is still being worked on but is also coming around. Our pace of play was fast. I would recommend this course to anyone.
This is a great course.
The pace was great, probably because it was so hot and not many golfers out. Had a few holes that the bunkers are being repaired. The greens are starting to come back. The course should be in great shape in a couple of weeks.
Extra fee added for non city members
I always liked the course layout but needs work. Extra $4 fee added when get to course if you don't live in the city. At this time not worth the money.
Great Day
This Donald Ross design remains challenging but fair. Course conditions were very good after the rains earlier in the week. Some pin positions were diabolical.
The course was in good condition with small, inverted greens. However, there was a Scramble in front of us so I can only assume the pins were set to challenge that type of format. Only one or two pins were accessible for the average golfer. We have played this course 8 or 10 times over the past three years but will seriously consider taking it off our rota in the future.
Nice Course
We (3 players) played this course on a Wednesday in the 11:00am time slot. We actually got off 20 minutes early and did not see a group in front of us until the 13th hole. We waited a few times but the pace of play was good generally. The course was green, plush and very soft. The course uses reclaimed water, and a lot of it. Don't expect a lot of roll out on this course and any approach shot hit short of the greens will remain short. The course is relatively short even from the tips. Most holes are pretty straight forward but there are a few blind tee shots to contend with. The Lady's get a gracious advantage on most holes unless you are playing the Senior Tees. Most of the Senior and Lady's Tees are together. The greens are elevated and small. Miss them short and you will roll back down. Miss them long and you will be testing that short game. Once on the green you will be wishing you had that extra pancake for breakfast. These greens are slooooow. You really need to use 'The Hammer of Thor' just to get to the hole. Greens were recently mowed but need to be double or triple rolled to make them genuinely puttable. Lots of putts kind of takes the fun out of the game. All in all it's a great little layout that plays well from tee to green, not through green. If you are within 20 miles it will be worth the time to play this one. Afterwards stop in and see Stacey for a bite to eat and a beverage of choice. Great service and very pleasant.
Extra charges
Was surprised to find course didn't respect stated green fees when I arrived and charged $4 extra. Claimed I overlooked the fine print. No apologies, just willfully sneaky. As for the course, its OK, but greens are absurdly slow and will fowl you up for when you return to a regular course.
