Palatka Golf Club
About
Neighbor to the beautiful Ravine State Gardens, Palatka Golf Club offers a game that is as scenic as it is entertaining. Designed by Donald Ross in 1925, the golf course was created with all skill levels of golfers in mind. The layout is player friendly, but there are still many challenging elements to keep golfers on their toes, including Ross' signature "turtleback" greens. There are also numerous bunkers fiercely guarding the greens. The signature hole of the course is the par-3 third. This 188-yard hole is a test of accuracy, requiring a difficult tee shot to a well bunkered green. Palatka Golf Club also offers a unique aqua driving range for golfers to use.

John Daly's Golf Bag Photo submitted by f16hoops on 10/09/2012
The course was in good condition with small, inverted greens. However, there was a Scramble in front of us so I can only assume the pins were set to challenge that type of format. Only one or two pins were accessible for the average golfer. We have played this course 8 or 10 times over the past three years but will seriously consider taking it off our rota in the future.
Nice Course
We (3 players) played this course on a Wednesday in the 11:00am time slot. We actually got off 20 minutes early and did not see a group in front of us until the 13th hole. We waited a few times but the pace of play was good generally. The course was green, plush and very soft. The course uses reclaimed water, and a lot of it. Don't expect a lot of roll out on this course and any approach shot hit short of the greens will remain short. The course is relatively short even from the tips. Most holes are pretty straight forward but there are a few blind tee shots to contend with. The Lady's get a gracious advantage on most holes unless you are playing the Senior Tees. Most of the Senior and Lady's Tees are together. The greens are elevated and small. Miss them short and you will roll back down. Miss them long and you will be testing that short game. Once on the green you will be wishing you had that extra pancake for breakfast. These greens are slooooow. You really need to use 'The Hammer of Thor' just to get to the hole. Greens were recently mowed but need to be double or triple rolled to make them genuinely puttable. Lots of putts kind of takes the fun out of the game. All in all it's a great little layout that plays well from tee to green, not through green. If you are within 20 miles it will be worth the time to play this one. Afterwards stop in and see Stacey for a bite to eat and a beverage of choice. Great service and very pleasant.
Extra charges
Was surprised to find course didn't respect stated green fees when I arrived and charged $4 extra. Claimed I overlooked the fine print. No apologies, just willfully sneaky. As for the course, its OK, but greens are absurdly slow and will fowl you up for when you return to a regular course.
Best Low Cost
We have played several low cost Florida courses in the past week. This course was much better than all the others. There is not much water and fairways are wide, an enjoyable round.
geat course
not a long course but still plenty of challenges......tough green complexes..fairways and greens near perfect
Beware the hidden charges.
Classic Donald Ross design. A fair test of golf. Drove over an hour - find out the course charges a $4.00 user fee per non-resident of Palatka golfers. Surprise, surprise. The starter insisted on pairing my twosome with another twosome, and I have no problem with that except for the fact that a string of twosomes followed us. Oh - watch out, they allow fivesomes.
Would play the course again if it were within a twenty minute drive.
Nice course somewhat difficult Great Starter.FUN!
I was fortunate enough to get paired up with a couple from Michigan and they knew the course which was a BIG help. Pace of play was good my only complaint was very minor that the greens were really slow. Overall course was in very good condition with very few bare spots. A great value for this time of year.
Greens
The greens need to be mowed & rolled ! They are way to slow. It was hard to enjoy the game because of the greens.
Thanks for the review! We appreciate your feedback!
Enjoyable round of golf
Course gives you a little of everything... Long & short holes, changes in elevation, flat & undulating greens Tee boxes and fairways in great shape. Greens very slow...
Thanks for the review! We appreciate the feedback!
Classic course tougher than it looks but a beauty!
Classic 1925 Donald Ross course with no hole longer than 500 yards is a treat and with par holes 3 that require your attention or you pay the price. Every hole as you stand on the tee you could see how the hole is to be played but then you are required to step up. The par 5's are not longer than 500 yards but very tough to reach in two without shaped long drives and accurate second shots. The par 3's were each fun but number 3 is a beauty and number 16 is168 yards, a club uphill, tree guarding the left side and into a crossing left-right wind. The par 4's are mainly mid length but either up hill approach shots or small greens make for a great challenge.
Most greens were very small and tough to read with putts as most greens run back to front. The course was a in very good shape and the greens had plenty of grass of them but slower than usual. It would have been fun to putt these greens at a quicker speed. My 35 putts left me with a 77, My wife enjoyed the course as well and it is a bit shorter than typical from the women's tees.
Thanks for the review Rangr! Glad you and your wife enjoyed your time here at Palatka Golf Club. We hope to see you both in the near future!
Course is in good shape. Tees could use some work.

Thanks for the review Kyplanner!
Thanks for the review!
Surprise.
Golf Course was okay, my golf now confirmation said I owed nothing at the course. However we were charged $4 apiece at the course. Should have been noted that that would happen on golf now. Drove 50 miles to get there.
Palatka Golf Course - nice Donald Ross Gem
The course is in great shape. Challenging, fun layout.
All 5 stars if greens were a little faster.
Worth playing for sure.
Thanks for the review! Hope to see you out here more in 2017!
Interesting Layout
This course has some challenging holes which would need a second round to be fair. A few of the par 3's are protected by large trees forcing the draw in my case or the fade. I under clubbed most holes as a lot of them are elevated greens. Greens are nice but inconsistent as they were long and uncut. Overall nice.
Thanks for the review! Hope to see you back very soon!
Worth the travel
My wife & I stay in Keystone Heights for a couple months during the winter and found the course while we were driving around last year. We decided to try it. We enjoyed playing the course and try to play it often while here. The staff at the course has always been friendly and accommodating. Also, the course is well maintained.
We would recommend the golf course to anyone.
Thanks for the great review! We are glad you enjoyed your stay! Happy you took advantage of the course!
