Tarpon Woods Golf Club
About
Named after the creek that borders it, Tarpon Woods Golf Club is home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, alligators, turkeys, coyotes, and otters. The layout is not the Tampa Bay area's most challenging but it is one of the most scenic. Formerly Brooker Creek Golf Club, the club changed management and made several improvements to the bunkers, tee boxes, and greens in 2009. It has been a local favorite for more than 30 years. Overall the golf course is not particularly long but the front nine plays longer than the back. Each nine offers a unique set of challenges. The third hole is the longest and toughest with water that runs down the left side. There is also water on both sides of the approach to the green.

Will play the course again when conditions are improved.
We were disappointed at the condition of the fairways and greens. Since we only paid $19 per person we did not feel too bad. Green conditions cost us more putts then normal. Looks like they are trying to get some of the greens in shape yet they need to water badly! Playing the fairway was quite often like playing in the rough. The course is beautifully laid out and if the course was in an improved condition this would be a wonderful course to play. The course condition is sad; we heard after the fact this was once a really well maintained course. Looking forward to the day the course condition improves.
Course conditions keep getting worse
I found this place about a year ago when they changed the name and possibly ownership. At that point the course was in decent shape and a great value for the cost. Since then, each time I've been back they say the greens are being worked on and the conditions are their priority. Yet each time it got worse. Yesterday the place hit rock bottom. The fairway is littered with dry, dead areas and hard-pan, the tee boxes are mangled with little to no grass to hit from and the greens...My God. That's the worst part. They were baren and dry, so fast but that was not because of good conditions. It was dry and baren in mnay places with the dirt and other dry areas painted green to look lole grass. MOst greens we played two putt max b/c of the conditions. The surface held nothing. It was like playing in a parking lot. I won't be back for a while if ever. Take my advice, unles the fees are $8 it's a rip off. Don't bother with this place. This was the last time for me until I know there have been SERIOUS improvements or the cost is under $10. .
Disappointing
The tees, fairways and green need a great amount of attention.
If the course were in better shape I would have continued the back nine in spite of the windy conditions. We left after nine holes.
Love the layout
The fairways and rough are bare, making it very hard to chip. The greens are also bare and some are very bumpy. The course is very beautiful and full of wild life and I like playing there. The course does need a lot of work and that is why i don't recommend it to friends.
A very nice course
We enjoyed our round at Tarpon Woods as well as the lunch at the Club's restaurant. The Pro shop is well equipped with clothing, accessories and golf bags.
this course is fun to play with your kids.
The course is an old layoutand unfortunately is not in the best of shape. Play is fast until you get to the greens. Running about a 7 --have played this course before and hope it gets back into shape.
Would be a great course if they maintained the greens
Excellent layout, good length. A lot of trees and good mix of sand and water hazards. The tee boxes are in poor condition, half are pretty good and half are filled with divots. The greens are unforgivable, super hard, burnt, missing grass, some are sandy. Fairways are in ok condition, very hard and dry, lots of roll. I could care less about everything except the greens. Bunkers are forgotten, some didn't even have rakes. After coming out of the winter season in FL (where fees are sky high and things should be as good as they get) its not a good sign for this course.
If you want a cheap course with a good layout and secluded its a good value. If you're looking to score your best then the greens are not going to allow it.
Course needs a new greens keeper
What a shame. It's a fun course but the tee box's a and the greens were in horrible condition.
Not worth it
Greens are in horrible condition. Fairways are sparse in terms of grass. No rangers on course to help speed of play. Seems that they used double bookings for some tee times.
STAYAWAY!
The pace of play was horrible. The best thing that could happen for this course would be a sellout to a cattle rancher. The greens were in very poor shape, fairways were poor, and tee boxes were awfull. I would never recommend this course to anyone. Price was too high as well. STAY AWAY !!!
Worse course I've ever played.
Played this course last weekend while in town with some family. When I made the tee times I was advised that the greens were in the best shape they have ever been. Not only were the greens in bad shape but the course had some of the worse fairways I've ever seen. Tee boxes for the most part were sand boxes. It has a nice layout but needs alot of work just to get it in playing condition. Payed $30.00 dollars at one in the afternoon, not worth the money or the time.
This course needs attention.
We had just played there a few weeks ago and it was in excellent condition. I don't know what happened in those few weeks but the course was awful. Tee boxes-terrible. Fairways-terrible. Rough- terrible. Greens- terrible. In addition, trees had just been trimmed throughout the course and left on the sides of the fairways. For $40, no way.
Needs attention
greens, tee boxes and fairways in bad shape. Course layout good and price was right but very disappointed that the course is not taken better care of.
I like the course, but the greens need more time to be acceptable
They are working on the greens, but for the moment putting is very difficult.
A GOOD COURSE, IN POOR CONDITION
This golf course has a great layout but it has been allowed to deteriorate over the past few years due to ownership and name changes. It needs immediate attention to the fairways and particularly the greens which are sand covered in places and unplayable.
The day I played there were branches from trimmed trees lining the fairways that had obviously been there for days and there was no attempt being made to pick them up.
Good course, poor conditions.
The field of play needs attention in all aspects...from tee, thru fairways, bunkers and esp. greens. Very spotty, but many areas of soil where there should be grasses. But a good layout and enjoyable. Perhaps with more water the grasses will be in better shape....rather than Feb. funk.
Good range with bunker and putting green. Good club pro.
No recommendation here!
The greens were in bad shape with bare spots and areas that had been repaired with plugs. They had trimmed the trees and the excess was all around the fairways and greens. The cost to play was good but not for the shape of the course. I had played here years ago, it has seen better days.
poor
the starter never showed the pace was extremly slow, the trees that were being trimed branches were left laying around all over the place. the greens were in rough shape, the t boxs were incorectly marked for distances
Greens and fairways need some attention
Over all this course is average with bare spots on most fairways and greens. Nothing like bombing a drive 270 down the middle and having to play off a sandy bare spot. Course is a little tight which presents a little challenge.
