Tarpon Woods Golf Club
About
Named after the creek that borders it, Tarpon Woods Golf Club is home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, alligators, turkeys, coyotes, and otters. The layout is not the Tampa Bay area's most challenging but it is one of the most scenic. Formerly Brooker Creek Golf Club, the club changed management and made several improvements to the bunkers, tee boxes, and greens in 2009. It has been a local favorite for more than 30 years. Overall the golf course is not particularly long but the front nine plays longer than the back. Each nine offers a unique set of challenges. The third hole is the longest and toughest with water that runs down the left side. There is also water on both sides of the approach to the green.

This course is in bad shape.
Many of the greens are in poor to very bad condition.
Some of them it was like putting on dirt. if not tended
to very soon, the greens will be dead by mid-summer.
Disappointing greens
The course was nice and very challenging , the greens are the wurst I've played all year. Very disappointing .
Very challenging on a very windy day. A good course at a good price.
Very tight lies everywhere. Greens are not great, quite sandy and grass is sparse in many places. Took 4 1/2 hrs. A very demanding course for accuracy especially on a day of 2 and at times 3 club winds. It was fun though once you have finished and think about it.
course is in need of grass, both greens & fairways
The golf course has a very nice setting, and layout.
It is in dire need of grass , very dry. It may be the time of year, or just not enough effort , or money to get the course were it needs to be. It has a lot of potential, just needs work!
Painfully slow
One really slow foursome a couple of groups ahead provided around over 5 hours. Never saw a ranger all day.
Good course.
Good course for the money. Nice layout. Greens need some work especially the cups. Friendly pro shop. Great resturant on site.
The course is beginner friendly
The course and greens have improved since we last played in Nov.2012..
Great course for Medium to High Handicap players.
the course is getting better
shot one of my best games with a father son twoson my wife and i had a great time. keep up the good work.
Good value for the money
Fairways not super plush but course is a good challenge. Distances on markers at T boxes are not very accurate and need some updating Ex. Par 3 says 146 from whites but it is actually 200 yards. Most greens a bit slow and some have rough and bare patches. Staff is very helpful and accommodating.
Good Length for Driver Use
My Threesome - me and two friends from the snow belts - played a round at 12:15 pm and while we waited for the threesome in front of us to clear on most shots, they were playing the golds, we played the whites, we were surprised that we finished in 3 hrs and 40 mins. The greens were a little thin, as were the fairways, but the layout is great for using your driver on all but the 4 par threes. The par threes are fair and reachable with an iron. Overall, I and my northern companions enjoyed the course and will return next week when we will have a foursome when another snow-belter joins us.
challenging and beautiful
Tarpon Woods is a great course. It forces you to shape shots but not "gimicky". The challenges were logical and it was a beautiful course. I saw a wild turkey, 2 deer, 2 gators, and a variety of birds. I WILL BE BACK!!!!
Really good value for Florida in November...
Prices go up beginning in November. For the $20 we pair per golfer, nice golf value. Greens are good, fairways could use more grass overall. Front 9 more difficult the back 9.
Great Value
This is the second time I have played the course in 2 years and this course is great value. Nothing very difficult about the course. Playing from the tips gives it a bit of a challenge. Course is in okay conditions. Needs attention, but they seem to be trying. But value wise on a Saturday afternoon you cann't beat it. Consider this a local course with local feel to it.
course needs work
The fairways were hard and dry, roughs were covered with tree roots, and tree debree, greens spotty with bare spots.
This is a low calibre course. Fairways in poor shape. Not enough yardage indicators.
There was no Ranger to keep up pace of play.Poor shape on fairways. Not well marked for yardages or no GPS on carts.
Big Improvement.....
Tarpon Woods, AKA Brooker Creek, Lost Woods of Innisbrook, has historically been poorly maintained. Hampton Golf took over management around the first of 2012 and, after hitting an all-time low around June (the greens were moonscapes), the course is in better shape than I've seen it (I've played it a number of times since 1997). Two greens do have sizable ares (6'x6') areas that haven't completely grown in, but the others have only 2 or 3 very small patches that are recovering. The greens were a bit slow but now roll nicely. Fairways are in good shape, tee boxes are a little rugged but playable and the bunkers are decent and relatively consistent. Hopefully, Hampton will keep working on it. It's a fun layout and has some tight driving holes.
Cow Pasture?
Ok, but in fairness, the course REALLY needs a lot of work but as long as the rates remain low on GolfNow.
Needs a Little Work on Some Grees
Very inexpensive for Florida this time of year. Not very crowded so pace of play was very good. 1st green was in rough shape but most of the others were good. Some weeds but still rolled fairly well. Good layout for skilled as well as begineers. Great staff and Beef's restaurant on site which is definitely a plus for the 19th hole.
Relitively difficult course with trouble everywhere. There is a reason it was previously called Brooker Creek
This could be a quality course worthy of good golfers if it were maintained. The greens need attention and the fairways are nearly barren in many places. I saw only two tee boxes that had been given any recent attention.
