Marcus Pointe Golf Club
About
Marcus Pointe Golf Club tumbles across 600 acres of rolling woodlands, which is a rare occurrence in the mostly flat Panhandle area. The back nine is where golfers really begin to notice the dramatic undulations. Earl Stone, who has designed several Gulf Coast golf courses, created the layout. He has built his reputation on building playable and affordable courses. While water may not come into play often, golfers will still be kept on their toes by the numerous sand bunkers and an abundance of trees and of course, the tricky angles and elevation changes throughout. The golf course is challenging but fair with a playability that appeals to golfers of all skill levels. The greens are well manicured and keep all abilities in mind. Four sets of tees make Marcus Pointe Golf Club even more accessible.

#18 Sprinklers Photo submitted by refrowland on 06/17/2019
Bad shape
Marcuse Point was the place to play but the last three time it progressively getting worse. I don’t understand it. Very disappointing.
Example of what is ruining golf
M P is a good example if what is ruining golf
Members who think they own the course play slow hold up play and let no one thru
Next are players who are new to the game and think they have to play all 200 shirts and find every ball
Marshall’s who don’t keep play moving
Singles and doubles who won’t join and make play faster so you have ones and twos following slow and inexperienced players
This will be the death of golf
Just ask koepka
course marshals don't do their jobs
Play was backed up behind a group with 5 players on Sunday morning, they were not playing ready golf nor did they allow faster groups through. As the marshals drove past the group they did nothing but wave.
I'll be back
I've played this course twice as I visit my family yearly. The layout is its beat feature. Challenging in that the greens are heavily guarded by bunkers but the fairways are reasonably wide. You have to have a terrible shot to lose a ball here. Now understand this is a public course so there are patches in the fairways and the bunkers can be a little hard packed, so unless you're a golf snob you'll enjoy it for the price. Oh, and Mary at the pro shop is a sweetheart. Have fun and hit em straight!
Marcus Pointe enjoyable
Course in good shape, could only play nine as developed a painful blister. Staff not as accommodating as they could have been but think they cater mire to members/regulars
Course was in good shape, greens a little slow but all around great day
Friendly staff great food at the grill the only down fall was there was 3 groups of 5 in front of us on the front 9 and when we made the turn it turned into a group of 6 . Really slowed play. 5 hrs to play 18 glad we had time to enjoy ourselves
My Golf Experience
I thoroughly enjoyed my round of golf. The staff could not be any friendlier. The course is fun and very playable.
I will go back.
Fairway distress
I often play m p and was surprised at the condition of the fairways they looked more like the rough than a fairway
The greens line fine but I’ve never seen their fairways so distressed
Fun Course
Played this course for $14.00 on a hot deal! Can’t beat that price for 18. There were a few fairways that were poorly kept and looked like they hadn’t been cut in weeks. The greens were consistent and I enjoyed the layout. I’d recommend this course for the right price and skill set.
maintenance problems
Several fairways were overgrown with weeds and clearly had not been cut in quite some time, and the greens were very slow. Play was started for early Tee times on number 10 then later on number one. As my group made the turn there was a group ahead of us waiting for a group in front of them, both of which had just started their round.
Great round of golf!
Hard to beat this quality course for the $. Greens were in excellent condition! Fairways were great!
Fun Course
Not too hard and not too easy! Good course in great condition.
Marcus Pointe
First time playing this course. Trying to enjoy some of the courses in my new hometown. Some of the reviews over the last month or so weren’t great, but for $20 and within 5 miles of my house, I gave it a go before the sun came beating down on everyone. The greens have caught some flack from reading up, but I think that’s mostly due to the drought/heat combo we have had. The rain the last two weeks and a fresh cut this morning had them rolling and looking nice. Was actually impressed after reading the last month of reviews. The layout was nice, but nothing too crazy. No driver needed for those errant off the tee. I don’t recall seeing any water either. The bunkers that line most greens were okay. I hit out of two going for Par 5’s and the sand was soft and looked taken care of. Most holes looked great and the facilities and practice areas were above Par, but the reviews about some of the fairways were spot on. I can’t recall the hole, but one was mostly overgrown with something that looked like rough and there was construction/dirt on one hole on the back. For $20 and the recent heat wave we have had, the course was solid though and I will definitely add it to my new rotation since moving down here. It needs some love in some areas and I showed that with my 4/5 rating, but it’s not as bad today as some of the previous reviews from a month ago made it out. Pace of play was great and the only two groups ahead of me let me play through since i was a single. I had the back 9 to myself. Very nice course and very scoreable.
Greens are improving
The greens have improved considerably since I last played here several weeks ago; they're quite a bit slower than normal for Marcus Pointe. There are still bare dirt patches on several greens but for the most part they aren't an issue. #3 fairway is in very poor condition with about as much dirt as there is grass. The fairways on the front 9 are being overtaken by invasive grass but they are still playable for now; some herbicide is needed very soon. The course is a good value for the summer rate of $29. The only big negative for our experience was that we had to wait on the tee box at #10, #11, and #18 for the groundskeeper to drive past and down the fairway where he flushed the sprinklers at each of the greens. We had to wait for the sprinklers to stop before hitting our approach shots, and the fresh water made these three greens completely inconsistent with the rest of the course. The back 9 was practically empty so we couldn't understand why there was a rush to jump in front of us to flush the sprinklers.
Great course........
Good conditions.... greens in real good condition...
