Golf Club At Wescott Plantation - Black Robin Course
About
The Golf Club at Westcott Plantation may be owned by the city of North Charleston but it is far from being your typical municipal course. The 27-hole layout is divided into three nines: Black Robin, Burn Kills, and Oak Forest. They each take their name from the plantation's long history, it's one of the oldest in the area. Care was taken to preserve the centuries-old live oaks and pristine wetlands that are scattered throughout the entire course. Black Robin is the tightest of the three nines with small greens that make it the most challenging as well. Every hole is framed by lush vegetation and various streams, ponds, and wetlands come into play throughout the course. The golf course ends with a welcome chance for a birdie in case you didn't fare too well on the tougher preceding holes.

Decent Layout
First time playing the course, played Oak Forest and Burn Hill. Oak Forest was more forgiving and as long as you can drive the ball straight, there isn't a lot of trouble, Burn Hill had a narrow fairway and you could find yourself in the water or in the woods if you didn't drive down the middle. The biggest dissapointment was that the fairways were muddy and in poor shape, pretty much every shot you got mud on your ball, the greens were like cement and looked like artificial fertilizer was put on the greens but you simply couldn't get the ball near the hole. I think the most dissapointing part was the cost, 46 dollars on a course that I don't believe was worth 20 for this time of the year, I think once the fairways green up and they can get the greens in decent shape, this would be a nice course, but I would avoid for the next couple of months.
a little wet
This course is a great bang for the buck but doesnt seem to drain very well.
Wet and sloppy
The course was unusually muddy for a little rain a day prior. At this time of the year the grass is dormant so the only green on the course we're the greens that were dyed that color. You constantly had to move your ball to find a half way dry spot to hit from. The course should adjust their prices to reflect how playable the course is. I have played the course before so I know how nice it can be. The layout is very good and the fact that that it has 27 holes, the pace stays pretty quick throughout the round. I do recommend this course and will play it again myself.
Soggy conditions
This is a nice course but we had to much rain over the weekend so the course did not dry out plus it is still winter time. I'll try this course next Monday again should be dry out by then.
my afternoon at Wescott Plantation
I played a nine that was closed that day, I was the only golfer on the track , it was absolutely beautiful,
the fairways were fairley dry the greens were extremely fast and sloped, it was beautiful
Nice Course To Play
Challenging course, great lay out, and nice Charleston weather. Pace of play can be annoying at times but of course that depends on players ahead of you. Course is always busy which is a good sign that it's a nice place to play.
Duffer
fairways and tee boxes were very wet but the greens were in excellent shape. Had to keep cart on walkway. Better that than tearing up the fairways. Good time had by all.
Course in excellent condition
Staff very friendly, course in excellent condition. Good value for the cost. Recommend playing. Will definitely look forward to playing again when in Charleston area.
Thoroughly Enjoyable
I was very impressed with Wescott. The staff is very friendly, the course is scenic, well maintained and fun to play. It rewards good play and penalizes poor play. I think it's an amazing value.
Somewhat of a forgiving course
Great place to play. Not too much water. Fun course!
Good Condition
I typically play Wescott a couple of times a year. The last couple of times I played the course was hard. It was difficult to get a tee in the ground and the fariways and greens were so hard it was like hitting the cart path. However, probably due to so much rainfall recently the course played well and the greens were smooth and soft enough to stick an approach. The tee boxes were not in very good shape and still a bit hard. personality. At the risk of being sexist, Missy is by far the best looking cartgirl I've ever encountered. She also has a wonderful personality.
Nice course
Have played this course many times and have no reason not to continue coming back. The GolfNow rates offer a great value. The 27 holes offer a good range of hole layouts, although not many doglegs. The greens and fairways are always in good shape (greens played fast today, maybe a 9). Stay clear of the rough as it will cost you at least 1/2 a stroke, as it should.. Friendly staff as well. Looking forward to playing here again soon.
Excellent greens
Will be playing here much more. Great conditions from tee to green and greens are quick
Punched greens
This course is in very good shape we played soon after aeration of greens and they had sand as well as punch marks so ball couldn't roll true. I'm sure after grow back they'll be great.
Stay out of rough
Course is well maintained course is challenging but allows you to recover except the rough swallows your ball. Had a good enjoyable round
Wescott
Course was in good shape at a good price. Rough was really thick. Starter did not pair anyone up so my threesome had to let a few singles through but it was a good day
Excellent course with many tee options available
The course was in great shape despite the heavy rains the previous 2 afternoons. There was some wet fairways but overall very good condition. Fun to play and 27 holes available.
pro's and con's
no service cart at all, the rough 1st cut is almost unplayable, lost two balls 8 feet off the fairway on one hole... fairways are impeccable , greens are in decent shape after a recent aeration process.
Wescott
3:30 tee time in hot weather and usually few players so I expected to play fast. First 8 holes were great then got behind a slow 3-some.
Back nine was worse with more slow play and slow groups..
Needed a ranger to speed up the slow groups or at least let the quicker groups play through.
Loved it!
Played two of the three courses and enjoyed them very much. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I stopped in the clubhouse after for a beer and sandwich and enjoyed them as well.
