The Highlands Golf Course
About
Editor's Note: The course is temporarily closed.
The Highlands golf course is one of three courses owned and operated by Meadows Country Club. In addition to the Highlands and Meadows Courses, there is also the Arthur Hills-designed Groves Course, an 18-hole executive course. The Highlands Course has an "old Florida" layout equipped with plenty of trees and water that tumble across gentle hills. You'll be playing through majestic oaks and towering pines as you take on this challenging-but-fair test. Narrow, tree-lined fairways and small greens demand accuracy but generously the reward well placed shot. The golf course finishes with a tricky par 4. Your tee shot will to be straight and accurate to avoid the fairway bunkers on the left and right, positioning you for a mid iron back into a green that sloped front-to-back and guarded by bunkers on both sides. There is also a lake to the front left.

Highland Visit
It had been awhile since I played the Highlands. It is a bit difficult, little room for error, especially with the course so dry. Not many players on the course in the afternoon. The pro sho staff was very friendly as was the lady at the snack shop. The cart guys not so much. They were too busy for questions or even help with our questions. I paid $70 for a round of golf in 85’ degree weather and if I want to hit a few practice balls, I need to drive my cart 10 minutes away and hit into a net in the woods.
Decent course
Fairways and tee boxes are in good shape. greens look to be improving from what other old reviews mention, couple of greens were a bit sandy but otherwise not horrible. Had a fun round played decently quick for 2 guys it took us just over 3 hrs
A Good Test of Golf from Any Tees
The Highlands requires good tee shots to avoid trees, water and sand. The course from tee to green is in good condition. The greens have improved dramatically from the poor putting conditions earlier this summer but they are still not great compared to other local public access courses. If the greens were better this would be a great course and a true test of ball striking ability. I still enjoy playing this course even if the greens aren't perfect. Pace was excellent at. 3 1/4 h for 18.(2-some). Great value thru GN.
Enjoyable facility
Friendly welcome at Cart Barn, in the Pro Shop and at the First Tee. There were a few holes which needed some greenkeeping attention but this did not detract from our enjoyment of the course.
ok course
greens were punched/sanded recently. Driving range is members only so you cant warm up.
Besides greens, rest of course was in nice shape. layout is pretty good.
Much better
Lived in area all my life and this course has had it’s ups and downs. Two years ago the management destroyed the courses and especially the greens. They have made progress in bringing them back. The staff is friendly, the course has a great layout, the fairways are in superb shape, the tees are in good shape and the amenities on the course of restrooms, water and ice are second to none. The rough is rough as it should be. The greens are 60% better and hopefully will get to 100% before year end. Glad to see a troubled course begin to get back on track to being an excellent place to play a round. A great deal on GN or just book online. I have no affiliation with the course just near where I live.
Highlands Course
Our first time and found the Staff to be Welcoming!
My wife and I enjoyed our afternoon playing the Highlands Course. We were impressed with how good the fairways and greens are with the seasons drought! 👍
Will be back !!!
Course in better shape since the last time I played it, but needs more work. Very nice layout.
Greatly Improved & A Good Test of Golf
The Highlands fairways and tees are in excellent shape. The late summer rains have really improved course playing conditions. The bermuda rough is a "real rough" and places a premium on hitting fairways. The chipping and pitching areas around the greens are in very good shape. The pace of play was excellent as a single at 2 h and 15 min.(noon tee time).. The greens have greatly improved,, they were good enough to allow me 13 putts on the front nine with 5 one putts. A couple of greens on the.course still have some issues but it is clear they are rapidly improving.. At last the greens are starting to roll true and the rest of the course is in excellent shape. A great value and a good test off golf.
Highlands
Nice course. Nice layout. Greens had been aeriated and sandy, but they will be nice.
Once great course
Probably a money issue but the Highlands is only a shadow of it's former self. Tees ok. Fairways are good. Greens on back nine good. Front nine greens are terrible. Had a GN Hot Deal, otherwise I would have been really disappointed.
If only the greens were better
Tee boxes are ok and fairways are in great shape. Pace of play is usually good but it totally depends on the pace of the group in front.. Now for the not so good. The greens are still making a comeback and are better than they were a month ago but they are still very, very slow and they are not rolling true and smooth. Very hard to one putt for an up & down. The value was still ok because the price in golf now was good I will say the shape of the course is in great shape except for the greens which are slowly improving.
