The Highlands Golf Course
About
Editor's Note: The course is temporarily closed.
The Highlands golf course is one of three courses owned and operated by Meadows Country Club. In addition to the Highlands and Meadows Courses, there is also the Arthur Hills-designed Groves Course, an 18-hole executive course. The Highlands Course has an "old Florida" layout equipped with plenty of trees and water that tumble across gentle hills. You'll be playing through majestic oaks and towering pines as you take on this challenging-but-fair test. Narrow, tree-lined fairways and small greens demand accuracy but generously the reward well placed shot. The golf course finishes with a tricky par 4. Your tee shot will to be straight and accurate to avoid the fairway bunkers on the left and right, positioning you for a mid iron back into a green that sloped front-to-back and guarded by bunkers on both sides. There is also a lake to the front left.

Course is great
The course is laid out well, and is a good time to play. The front 9 is closed due to maintenance. You have the option to play the back twice, or play the back then play the front 9 of the other par 66 course that they have. I playen the back then the front of the other course. It was good, but the course needs some work. The tee boxes are high grass and have just been aureated. The fairways are nice, but the greens need a little TLC. I would recommend the course when they fully open.
Lot of Work needs to be done
Course at the Highlands is good layout but paid for that as nobody said front nine was closed so was forced to play back nine which is just in bad shape , green are poor and been that way for awhile since I played so no improvement but seems to lots of play in winter (season here) and losing the green as it could be fantastic course
I won’t be back unless I hear different very disappointed
Wasn’t told 1/2 of the course was closed
Arrived and told 1/2 of Highlands was closed and to play the back 9 twice. The greens were half bare and the course was in terrible shape. Not worth the $45 each paid at all. Staff was friendly though. The center court bar was something right out of 1977. This place needs a serious infusion of cash and makeover
WARNING
Do not play this course. Awful conditions and nobody on the staff seems to care.
Front 9 closed
Had to play back 9 twice and greens were in bad shape
Horrible conditions and over priced
I arrived at 3:30pm. I was charged $40.00 at 4:00pm. Dave “Mr. Personality” behind the counter told me they were starting on hole number 10 today. I was never told the front nine was closed for the summer. Also, while sitting in the parking lot l attempted to book a tee time for 3:41 through GolfNow hot deal for $20.00 but could not because it had expired. I tried again for the 3:48 tee time that had just popped up and it also had expired as I pressed “pay now”. I asked Dave about it and he said someone had already taken those tee times. Funny thing is, l saw no one checking in or going out to the course, no one else was on the entire time I played. Lastly, 4 of the 9 holes were cart path only. I should have known something was wrong.
Conned /fooled
Everything would have been great we played the back nine but then we’re told that the front was under construction so they recommended we play the front of another course called the Groove, sounded okay except nobody mentioned that this course was an executive short course
This ended up ruining the day would still love to play the whole course
Greens & Fairways in Sad Shape
The grass on many greens has died or in the process of dying. A number of fairways are in poor shape. I had several poor lies after hitting the fairways so it can be a hit or miss with regards to the lie in fairways. Pace of play was great at about 3 hours. The price was very good thru GolfNow but be prepared for a course that needs a good dose of TLC.
Greens are in horrible condition
Greens were horrible, lots of bare spots with cracks in the dirt from ignoring them. The course had 12 greens that are in less than poor condition. the other 6 were in poor condition.
Disgusting Round of Golf
The greens were the worst I have played in over 40 years of playing golf......There was absolutely no grass on them......It was like hitting off of dirt......We finally decided to skip trying to putt altogether....It wasn't worth it...........I will say that the fairways were in better shape.
Don't waste your money here!!!
The worst greens I have ever played on. They were unplayable. They were actually going to close course for repairs. Should have been told this prior to playing. Will never return, we quit after 5 holes - no fun.
Problems
I like The Meadows as a club and used to play The Highlands regularly and liked it, but, sorry to say they have very serious problems with many of the greens particularly on the front nine.
I believe they are being relaid at the end of the month, until then it is not good value for money.
Let’s hope the new greens are successful.
