The Highlands golf course is one of three courses owned and operated by Meadows Country Club. In addition to the Highlands and Meadows Courses, there is also the Arthur Hills-designed Groves Course, an 18-hole executive course. The Highlands Course has an "old Florida" layout equipped with plenty of trees and water that tumble across gentle hills. You'll be playing through majestic oaks and towering pines as you take on this challenging-but-fair test. Narrow, tree-lined fairways and small greens demand accuracy but generously the reward well placed shot. The golf course finishes with a tricky par 4. Your tee shot will to be straight and accurate to avoid the fairway bunkers on the left and right, positioning you for a mid iron back into a green that sloped front-to-back and guarded by bunkers on both sides. There is also a lake to the front left.

Tale of 2 Nines

Front 9 is okay, but had some issues with the greens and tight fairways. Back 9 is much more open, better routiing, design and greens. Non-members are not permitted to hit on the range (despite adequate space), but rather are relegated to hitting into a net near the first tee. Membership has its privileges.

Several Greens On Front Having Problems, Back Nine In Great Shape

Played afternoon round using GolfNow ‘Hot Deal’ pricing. Conditions were a bit windy, but dry and sunny. Was warned by starter that several greens on the front nine were having problems, plus had read the same in other reviews. Played (as a foursome) in less than four hours and were never held up by the group ahead of us. All staff members were courteous and friendly. Back nine was in excellent condition, with nice greens and bunkers. Other than the greens which were having problems, the front nine was also in good condition. Will definitely go back.

OK, but....

The Highlands course is far from challenging, but fun all the same. Unfortunately, many of the greens could be considered "unputtable" as they were in POOR condition. Would I play here again, yes, but would never pay full price for the overall condition.

Should have read reviews

I had played the course in 2020 and enjoyed it and expected the same.

The greens on the front 9 are horrendous. They should be called “browns”. They are by far the poorest greens I’ve played this year.

I was so disgusted with the conditions I returned to the Pro Shop after 6 holes to express my disappointment. I suggested that golf is a game of integrity and they should let people know what to expect before taking their $70.00. I also asked if there was any good will considering the conditions. Much to my disappointment there was no good will or in my opinion, integrity.

Bottom line, my own fault for not reading reviews and relying on memory.

Great place to stay away from.

Greens were horrible

The front 9 greens were completely trashed, was even told by staff member that the front nine is REALLY BAD.

For $85 a round not worth it at all

Awful course conditions for $85 green fee

Not sure what they’re doing with the money they charge but it’s certainly not getting invested in the course conditions. The front 9 were beyond awful. Several of the putting greens were barren or had slick black patches (see photo). The tee boxes looked like they were never repaired. Like the divot repair mix was loaded with Roundup. But get 12 inches off the cart path and warning buzzers go off and the cart slows to a crawl. What are they protecting for crying out loud?. And even the cart paths are crumbling . The back 9 in comparison is much better. Something most golfers would just describe as marginal. Didn’t come across any slick black areas on the putting greens there.

The staff was friendly and polite. But if they wanted to be more polite they would warn you that the course is in terrible shape and you might want to spend $85 somewhere else.

Not great

I played this acouple of years ago and it was so so. Gave it try again hopefully thinking it would be in better shape

Big mistake. Greens in serious trouble and doesn’t look like they really care.

I won’t be back.

Very busy course on a Friday afternoon

I played as a single, booking at the last minute. There were many people at the cart garage waiting for carts to be returned by golfers finishing their rounds. Snow Bird season is in high gear but they have to pace golfers with carts or get more carts in peak season. After a 10 minute delay, I got a cart, loaded up and headed for the first tee. I expected the other golfers to be waiting or already teed off and up the fairway. It turned out, I waited a while before the others in the group showed up (also waited for carts) and we teed off about 15 minutes late. The greens on the first few holes were in terrible condition, some of the worst I’ve ever seen. Overall course conditions were a bit above average but it shows heavy use. They are spending money on a new building at Highlands so maybe the course will be next.

Mixed impressions

Departure was a total chaos!

There were not enough carts available.

Almost missed our t-time.

Finally received a cart without gps screen.

After 9 holes battery was dead.

New cart for back 9 barely made it to the 18th!

Front nine are good, back nine boring, nothing but long 500 yrds wide fairways.

All greens severely damaged by fungus
