The Highlands Golf Course
About
Editor's Note: The course is temporarily closed.
The Highlands golf course is one of three courses owned and operated by Meadows Country Club. In addition to the Highlands and Meadows Courses, there is also the Arthur Hills-designed Groves Course, an 18-hole executive course. The Highlands Course has an "old Florida" layout equipped with plenty of trees and water that tumble across gentle hills. You'll be playing through majestic oaks and towering pines as you take on this challenging-but-fair test. Narrow, tree-lined fairways and small greens demand accuracy but generously the reward well placed shot. The golf course finishes with a tricky par 4. Your tee shot will to be straight and accurate to avoid the fairway bunkers on the left and right, positioning you for a mid iron back into a green that sloped front-to-back and guarded by bunkers on both sides. There is also a lake to the front left.

First time RDH
Nice course, front nine greens are not grown in very sparse
Terrible Course Conditions
The greens and fairways were in terrible shape. Looks like greens may have been recently topped dressed. Many fairways were thin and lacked grass. Course had a stench that smelled like sewage. Bag boy thought is may be from the water used in irrigation. Weather was cold and windy and not many players, hence, pace of play was excellent. Course looks in bad shape. Didn’t see any maintenance workers all day. Stopped by snack bar at the turn for a coke, but told that they were out of Coke. Our starter was nice and friendly. The driving range is not available to non-member players. Can only practice putting and chipping on temporary green near #1 tee box. Pro shop staff were friendly. This course was not worth the $60 green fee.
Terrible condition
First time playing the Highland course. First impression was not great because of a stench in the air throughout the course. Bag boy thought it may be originating from the recycled water used in irrigation. All the greens were in terrible shape and appeared to have been recently top dressed. Fairways were also in bad shape. Maintenance personnel must have had the day off..no one working on course upkeep that I could tell. Practice driving range is not available for non-members, which was disappointing. Stopped by snack bar at the turn to get a diet coke, but had sold out of coke. Definitely, not a $60 dollar course. Don’t waste your time or money on this course.
This course needs some love
Poor tees, fairways and greens. Not even worth half the green fees they charged. Would not recommend to anyone, let alone a friend. Sorry but only telling the truth.
Hardly anyone on the course due to cooler weather and we still waited at every hole. Greens in bad shape.
They should be ashamed to charge what they do.
Nice layout, font nine greens a little rough/ bumpy, back nine slightly better.
Beautiful Day for Golf
First time playing, nice course in good shape, beautiful day probably led to slow play; My wife & I enjoyed it!
Greens were awful
Worst greens I have ever played in Sarasota. Tee Boxes were bare. Fairways just ok. By far the worst conditions I have played In Sarasota this winter. Overpriced and won't be back.
Dissatisfied with treatment from staff.
Right away the starter greeted myself (19) and cousin (21) as we were the first of our group to pull up, with hostility. I was in a great mood and immediately ruined my round, he then put a fake face on as our parents came behind us and acted like a whole new person because they were adults. Then after 3 holes we met the ranger who started to scold us for playing as a 6-some when in reality we were a pair and 4-some, but were together because we were being held up. He then proceeded to call my cousin a liar which was very unprofessional of him, given the stature this course self-proclaims to hold. On another note, greens were the worst I’ve ever stepped foot on and the tee boxes were atrocious. Paid for 18, golfed 9 given all things considered it was just a bummer of a day. Don’t spend your money here.
