The Highlands Golf Course
About
Editor's Note: The course is temporarily closed.
The Highlands golf course is one of three courses owned and operated by Meadows Country Club. In addition to the Highlands and Meadows Courses, there is also the Arthur Hills-designed Groves Course, an 18-hole executive course. The Highlands Course has an "old Florida" layout equipped with plenty of trees and water that tumble across gentle hills. You'll be playing through majestic oaks and towering pines as you take on this challenging-but-fair test. Narrow, tree-lined fairways and small greens demand accuracy but generously the reward well placed shot. The golf course finishes with a tricky par 4. Your tee shot will to be straight and accurate to avoid the fairway bunkers on the left and right, positioning you for a mid iron back into a green that sloped front-to-back and guarded by bunkers on both sides. There is also a lake to the front left.

Sick with whatever!!
Wishing for a compromise since our twosome did not feel well so a NO show was shared!! Wish that “GOLF NOW” would allow a cancellation when one in the twosome thought it was best to cancel under this truly health situation!Bent Tree showed sympathy but Golf Now” still in question??!
This course can be a great course, needs somework.
This is a very nice course if they would clean up the lakes, rough and sand traps.
Bad greens
Greens are in terrible shape. The greens are the slowest around
Over priced for the unfriendliness of staff and awful greens
Most of Meadows greens are an extension of the fairway - It could be a great course if the greens were fixed and the staff could learn how to nicer. The cart guys are awesome, they should switch jobs. Groves has much better greens. The staff on the other hand...we’ve played there 25 times due to “location convenience” and everytime I bring a guest they leave saying they never want to go back there due to the unfriendly staff.
Over rated
Very confusing checkin process, overly picky dress code which is based on relationships, Many amenties and buildings or facilities shutdown, Greens choppy and bumpy, Burden is on the player not the business
Poor condition
The greens on the front nine were in terrible condition,. The fairways of the front mine were better, but still below average for the area. The fairways and greens of the back nine or slightly above average.
Good value
Played 18 in under 31/2 hours. Greens were a bit slow relative to putting green. Course layout is nice with multiple tee boxes. Staff is friendly and Covid compliant. Worth the $.
Staff is great both inside for check in and the cart staff too.
Course is playable and is in average shape. The round was a little slow but we still had a good. Day.
Staff was As GREAT!!
The only bad thing about the course is the horrible greens
Disappointed
Upon arrival, we were very excited about the amount of natural areas and busyness of the course. A driving range turned out to be for members only and the main putting green was closed.. Really liked the layout, but the green conditions were very poor. Slow and bumpy. We had been excited about the course possibly being added to our regular rotation. Bunkers were in very good shape. But the greens were a real turn off. Also, our cart had huge GPS restrictions to the cart path only, that our playing partners' cart was not experiencing (no, theirs was not senior or handicap enabled). Don't ask me why there was a difference? If conditions were better, I would return. Snacks and drinks were available at good pricing and holes were all unique. No back and forth layout that shared a common rough. Hoping conditions improve. Play was 4 1/2 hours, hopefully that was unusual because the course difficultly did not necessitate the extra 1/2 hour. Again, loved the layout and nature throughout the course!
Delayed start time
Had a 12:36pm tee time for three.
Arrived early to see if feasible to get out early.
Starter Bob was nice.
However, Bob informed us of a member scramble and that we would be able to tee off after them.
We waited 40 minutes.
NO ONE teed off #1 in that 40 minute time window. Hmmm...
Then, member groups arrived. Two 4somes off #1.
Finally teed off at 1:00pm.
Needless to say, we waited ever hole on the front 9.
Crazy!!
Finally, on #9 the Marshal arrived and suggested we go back to #1 tee and play front 9 again.
We did.
Played 4 holes and left!
Way Overbooked
Not enough spacing between tee times - long lines at the first tee and definitely throughout the round. Pace of play was awful and unfortunately took a lot out of the experience. Would not recommend based on how they structure their tee times, as they try to squeeze as many people as possible in. I've played here on several occasions with the same experience, so I thought a review was necessary at this point. Will not be returning.
High\lands
Greens, tee boxes and fairways not in great condition - some greens had very little grass. Fairways and tee boxes were quite dry. Round was done in just over 4 hours, but seemed like we had to wait on every hole. Length was decent, and lots of sand and water hazards. Sand was in pretty good shape. Long way between holes in several places.
Potential
Wasn’t in terrible shape, but plenty of room for improvement. I live here and Highlands has always been one of my favorite tracks. This could be one of the areas fine courses if only the management would pay some attention and maintain it more. When you vertical the greens, top dress them!! It firms them up. Hey, you have to spend money to make money. I’d like to call out the players of this course, too. PLEASE sand your divots and repair your ballmarks on the greens. Nothing will ruin a putting surface than ballmarks.
Where's the Rye ?
Most decent courses overseed in November with winter blend rye grass. This course had sparse cover on the fairways, and barespots and disease on the greens. Not every green, but quite a few. For a course in a golf community with a private sister course I have to assume all the funds go to the private course. Also was surprised that the driving range was for members only. Had try drive cart about a half mile to the 1st tee. Obviously it is set up to cater to the members.
Conditions a little rough
The tee boxes and greens were pretty poor condition. Previous rounds were much better. Might be better in as couple of months.
