The Groves Golf Course
About
Editor's Note: The course is temporarily closed.
Designed by Arthur Hills, the Groves Golf Course may be a "short" course but it's still a challenge. It's one of three courses operated by Meadows Country Club. With a layout that sprawls across more than 50 acres, the par-63 layout feels more like a championship par-72 course. The layout is comprised of nine par 4s, eight par 3s, and one par 5. The course rewards accuracy and good shot placement, meaning it's not strength that matters but being able to strategize. The seventh hole is a memorable par 3 that appears simple enough thanks to a massive and seemingly inviting green, but the problem isn't hitting the green but getting your shot on the same level as the pin. There is a 5-foot slope that runs through the green, the severity of which is matched only by some of the greens at Augusta National.

Tough Test of Golf
Great layout. There is water somewhere on every single hole. Virtually every green has two tiers placing a premium on the proper club selection. The sand in the bunkers are perfect..A good number of holes are laid out such that they are either down wind or upwind of the prevailing breezes which again places a premium on proper club selection. The greens are in pretty good shape but tricky to read due to the difficult combination of grain and slope.. Upgrain/upslope they are slow but down grain/down slope they can get quick. The course would get a 5 star rating if the chipping turf around the greens were in better shape. Don't let the 4200 yard layout from the blue tees fool you., it is very tough to shoot in the low 70s here. For the value it is a fun test of golf.
Groves
Greens were in good condition. A few of the fairways were in tough shape. Overall nice course
Nice course to adapt to Florida Golf conditions
Nice place to warm up your game and adapt to Florida golf courses. Kudos to Ranger/Starter Mike for the excellent guidance and help. Nice cart amenities. Greens seemed a little slow but maybe thats just the way it is. Nice for dialing in the irons. Worth the money.....
A Challenge to Both Short & Long Game
First, I want to say the course was fun to play..
I came as a single and the starter gave me the option to play either as a single or join a group of 3 others. That option was nice & I chose to play in a 4 some. Let me get my only course complaint out of the way.. The greens rolll true and they are in decent shape but they roll about 4 on the stimp meter! Very slow. You have to pound 5 footers into the hole. But golf is about making adjustments to local conditions. The layout is challenging with both right & left doglegs. Shot making, distance control & accuracy are at a premium if you want to score low. The pro shop staff was nice but the cart guys although efficient weren't particularly friendly to someone playing there for the 1st time. I give it 4 stars based on the speed of the greens and some rough dry patches around the greens when attempting to chip. The layout stands out!
Great little course
Well set up and fun to play. For all the rain we have had this course was in the best shape of any I’ve played recently. They had just sanded the greens so they were very slow but that’s standard fair for this time of the year, still rolled very true.
Groves
Recent weather conditions had an impact on the course. Fairways were a little beat up due to weather
Good condition
It was a pleasant surprise to find greens in decent shape in June. So many courses aerate greens in summer that it's frustrating playing in the summer months. Tee boxes and fairways were also in good shape. I will be back.
Fun Course for Price
Great greens! If you don't drive it straight you could be in trouble. Enjoyed the course, 2nd time playing. Will definitely play again. I highly suggest to course management, please add water throughout the course. Luckily both times we played we had plenty of water (and adult beverages) but if you don't know there is no water or cart beverages, then you will not have anything to drink. Halfway House is not halfway. They either need cart beverage cart or more importantly water throughout the course.
Groves
A tricky little course for a par 65. Easy to get in trouble. Will play it again
