Nestled in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains, Sequoyah National Golf Club is surrounded by mature oak and fir trees. Owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee, the course is routed through flowered valleys that provide a colorful complement to the surrounding mountain views. It feels peacefully secluded but it is conveniently located less than an hour from Asheville. Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed the layout. The rolling terrain guarantees a range of different elevation changes but there are also some flat holes. The golf course is a tough test, offering several forced carries over water and severe dogleg fairways. The sloped greens are no easy feat either. Proper club selection and accurate approach shots will be generously rewarded. Sequoyah National also offers an expansive practice area with a driving range and putting and chipping greens.

One of the Best

Love this course. Played it for the first time this past NOV and got to play it again a couple of weeks ago. Impressive views. Great golf. The greens were in great condition and relatively fast. Lots of undulations and slope (mountain course). I had just come back from a week in Monterey playing the heavy hitters and this course is just as majestic in it's views. Not many flat lies to be found but an extremely fun course. Brave shots executed well are rewarded but if not, you are most likely in trouble and looking at a double easy.

Love this course and can't wait to get back to play.

A must play gem

This is definitely the best course in North Carolina in my opinion. Perfect conditions, unbelievable layout. Beautiful views of the mountains all around with true dramatic elevation changes on most holes. I live 11 hours away in Florida, but I will be back up in fall to play it again!

Great Course, Terrible Pace of Play

This is the second time I traveled to play at this course, separated by several years. Both times we played, the round took over six hours to complete. Every group we saw both ahead of us and behind us waited extensively on every shot. For us, it was a 3-5 minute wait on every tee and fairway shot across the entire 18 holes. Several groups ahead of us and behind us abandoned their rounds because they had another activity they had scheduled following their round.

I love the layout and condition of the course, It is very fun and challenging, but playable for most golfers. Some forced carries for women, however, are extremely difficult, but worth taking a shot. But the brutal pace of play completely overwhelms all of the good qualities of the course.

The lack of sufficient restrooms and food service on the course is extremely problematic for women and elderly golfers, in particular.

Very difficult course to play the first time

The course was in decent shape for the time of year. It is a very picturesque course lots of beautiful views. Most holes are very hilly with slanted fairways or narrow fairways. Playing this course for the first time did not know where to play my shots, lost lots of balls. I got a great deal through golfnow, I would not pay full price to play this course. The person who checked us in could have been a little friendlier. He wasn't rude just when you are dealing with the public and I told him it was our first time golfing he could have put an effort out to make us feel welcome.

Great views

Incredible cart path elevation changes, making for amazing mountain views although the course itself is relatively flat. Severe doglegs make for difficult sight lines if you’ve not played there before. Several greens are too severe, easy to putt off the green. General condition was very good for early in the season.

Course was Overbooked

They over book the course terribly, we were being pushed and held up all round. Greens had divots, fairways full of pitch marks, bunkers unattended. I expected a lot more as far as golf, but the views were great. No amenities were offered. Our group had fun but I expected a better atmosphere and course.

Altitude

Very scenic. While the cart paths are incredibly steep the actual course is relatively flat except for several spectacular elevation changes. Early in the season but the course was generally in very good condition. Staff was great.

Great course, horrible pace of play

Love the course and the layout, great amenities. But the pace of play was horrible, we had a 2:10pm tee off and didn't tee off until 2:40. Over 5 hours to finish, almost didnt get all 18 in.

Disappointed the greens had been aerated but still charged full price
