Nestled in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains, Sequoyah National Golf Club is surrounded by mature oak and fir trees. Owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee, the course is routed through flowered valleys that provide a colorful complement to the surrounding mountain views. It feels peacefully secluded but it is conveniently located less than an hour from Asheville. Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed the layout. The rolling terrain guarantees a range of different elevation changes but there are also some flat holes. The golf course is a tough test, offering several forced carries over water and severe dogleg fairways. The sloped greens are no easy feat either. Proper club selection and accurate approach shots will be generously rewarded. Sequoyah National also offers an expansive practice area with a driving range and putting and chipping greens.

Great Course - Terrible Pace

Great scenic course with lots of elevation changes. Doesn’t play very long, but you still have to think your way around the course with the amount of slope.

My only complaint - the tee times were stacked 10 minutes apart which lead to an extremely slow round. Probably the slowest round of golf I have ever played. We barely got all 18 in and we went off at 2:40pm (sundown was 8pm). By the end of the round we had fallen off the pace by over an hour. We waited on every shot around the whole course.

Beautiful track, but there needs to be more space between tee times for those to enjoy vs. the course trying to squeeze every dollar out of it.

Would not return

Views are beautiful, condition of fairways great. Some holes truly unfair tests (17 237 yd par 3, tiny bail out area to left, marsh to right) other holes offer horrible lies even from middle of fairway(not just uneven lies which are expected from mountain course, but almost shelves of elevation. . Greens very bumpy (other courses played were perfect..cleghorn and connestee for far less $). Golf cart gps is awful. Each hole no fewer than 3-4+ messages dinging with constantly repetitive messages…”dont go in the tall grass” limit time in tall grass” cart path only(it was after a rainfall…yes…we know its cart path..) advertisements for casino etc..etc. Clubhouse was underwhelming for the cost of green fee. The staff in pro shop probably the least welcoming I’ve seen in long time. Heavier set guy w unkempt hair couldn’t look or act less professional. Basically one word answers for any questions also smart @&$ comment about losing a score card when asked for a second one. Made us feel like we were bothering him. After asking about replay on phone before booking i was told replay rate was for cart fee). After completing first round, i was told it was $50. Money was taken without anything being entered into a computer or cash register and was left out on counter. No part of our experience that day justified what they charge for a green fee.

Lots of elevation changes and amazing views! Course layout was very fun. Would come back just for the views. Practice facilities weren't great (driving range was small and closed, a couple of small putting greens and a rundown chipping garea). Starter (Hank) was great. Still winter conditions, with recently aerated greens, but I'd imagine it's absolutely amazing in season when everything is greened up (or fall with the leaves changing). Got a HotDeal, so for less than $50 it was worth the drive and would recommend it if you're in the area.

Great course.

Beautiful championship style course in the mountains. Only negatives were that all bathrooms were out of order and the greens had just been aerated.

Upstate Foursome

There was not an aeration alert when I booked. Greens had just been aereated. Love the course and layout. Course conditions are always excellent and the staff is always courteous and friendly. Ratings are usually

5 stars for everything, but putting was a challenge during this round. We will definitely be back. Thanks

Sequoyah Nat

Had a good day despite the greens having been punched and sanded. The layout is awesome and the scenic shots are hard to beat. The pace was slow due to getting paired with a young couple who had no idea how to play golf, but we ditched them after 9 holes. Also we had to wait a few times on the grounds crew to drag the greens but that was understandable. I would definitely like to go back when the course conditions are prime. Our round was discounted so the price was excellent for what we got.0

Winter conditions are stellar

This course is a gem in the winter months. Irrigation is top of the line and greens roll true. If you can get on for under $75 a round, it’s a steal.
