Editor's Note: Course closed for business.

The Hooch Golf Club sits along the Chattahoochee River in Duluth, sprawling across a scenic landscape covered with ponds and lakes. The course is an executive, par-61 layout that combines traditional features with modern challenges. Although there aren't any par 5s on the golf course there are a few holes that stretch to over 400 yards, which guarantees that you'll be using all the clubs in your bag. There is plenty of water throughout the golf course, including three holes that play right along the river. It might not be what you're looking for if you want something truly formidable, but for a short course it's a good challenge that provides excellent iron practice. Besides the golf course, The Hooch is also known for its 12-acre, lighted driving range. There are also putting and chipping greens with a deep-faced practice bunker.

Good value

If you need proper place to practice, this is perfect one even though there is no par 5 hole. You can enjoy your short hole technique.

Lacking Maintenance

Course looks like nothing is being done to improve conditions. Could be much better with a house cleaning.

Decent

Ground was frozen so tee time was set back one hour for some reason. Pace of play was very very slow for some groups and very fast for others; felt like I was trying to play between and had to wait on some holes with people behind waiting.

What a dump

When we arrived, the tee times had been pushed back to 10:30 due to course maintanence. My partner and I had booked a tee time for 10:20 on golf now for $19 a person. However upon having a corrected tee time for 11:32, we were charged $6 extra. When trying to explain to the workers at the club house what had happened, they were very rude and unprofessional about the situation. After a dispute, we agreed to a free warm up bucket. However, I looked at my bank statement the next day and was actually charged for a warm up bucket as well.... Really short course and way over priced, even at $24. Probably won't ever come back

You get what you pay for

Awful course condition. Tee times way too close backed up on every hole. Pay 15 more bucks and go play sugar hill or lanier.

Good practice course.

Staff was very friendly. Pace of play was average. Played in the winter but the course was in relatively good condition for the amount paid and time of the year. All the holes are fair except for the first hole which is a little on the long side for an executive course but fair for a regular course. There is one par three on the backside that is impossible for the average player from the back tees. 225 over water to a small green.

The Hooch

Overall pleased with my time playing this course. Fairways were good, bunkers well kept, however greens not too impressive. I had 6 three puts and the most I have ever had was 3 in a round. Covered with leaves and ball marks, but at the end of the day cant blame the season.

great executive track

Played this course for about $15. It was perfect for that price. A lot of older groups our there so pace was slower than our should have been. But overall great track. Would definitely play again

Best Executive Course - I have played

I normally do not play "executive" courses, but I found this course to be interesting and challenging - especially from the blue tees. There are water hazards throughout as well as forced carries. The tee boxes are fair (a little chewed up), but the greens are in good condition.
The pace of play was steady but on the slow side - lots of doubles going out, very few foursomes.
Over all the best executive course I have played!

Super for short game work.

Really enjoyed playing this course because it was all about working on my short game from 120 yards into the green. Nice scenery on various holes. Don't play this course if you're in a hurry cause most folks are out there to enjoy the golf and the companionship of fellow players. Will definitely be looking to return to The Hooch!

Hooch

Course was in decent same, the greens were sub par I thought. kinda pricey for what you get, we paid $35 late Sunday, I wouldnt have been okay if it was $25, no more then that for this course, especially as it is a par 61.

You get what you pay for...

Poor course, unfriendly staff, discourteous players all over (no one repairs ball marks, will not join together to speed up pace of play).

Not recommended for hackers, scratch golfers, or even frisbee golfers.
