About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business.
The Hooch Golf Club sits along the Chattahoochee River in Duluth, sprawling across a scenic landscape covered with ponds and lakes. The course is an executive, par-61 layout that combines traditional features with modern challenges. Although there aren't any par 5s on the golf course there are a few holes that stretch to over 400 yards, which guarantees that you'll be using all the clubs in your bag. There is plenty of water throughout the golf course, including three holes that play right along the river. It might not be what you're looking for if you want something truly formidable, but for a short course it's a good challenge that provides excellent iron practice. Besides the golf course, The Hooch is also known for its 12-acre, lighted driving range. There are also putting and chipping greens with a deep-faced practice bunker.

Nice little course for $25 midweek!
This was my first time playing in over a year, so I wanted to go somewhere inexpensive and not super challenging. The Hooch is exactly what I was looking for. Nice little executive course with several holes where you can rip the driver too. I will definitely play here again!
Tough Walking Beautiful Course
It rained Sunday so it was cart path only. Course was very green with mowed fairways and fast, smooth greens. If you mis-hit and it's path only, plan on a 50 to 100 yard walk across the fairway. Lot's of burms to challenge the legs also. I'd play again in a minute but not cart path only.
Great value for 18!
First time playing the course but won't be the last. If. It wasn't for a "fivesome" that played ahead of us we could have finished in less than 4 hours. Greens were in good shape as well as the overall course.
You will enjoy the round here.
Nice course
Course was in great condition. Guy in the Pro Shop seemed overwhelmed by handling more than one task at a time. But, I do enjoy the course.
Good for the short game
This is a short course all par threes with a few par 4s. Not overly challenging and good for a quick round and great practice for the short game. From the back tees it can be a test on certain holes but overall not bad for the price. They have an all grass driving range which for me is there biggest plus.

Even closer to home.
Beginners short course is too nice to me...
Great for beginners
This course is really wonderful for the beginner golfer. I started golf less than a year ago and this course has been great for my skill level. Decent elevation changes and scenery is not bad. The only complaint I could give this course is the way they send off golfers. Yesterday I played behind two threesomes (I was foursome) and two singles were behind us. The singles were always right on us and letting us know it, I would've been happy to let them play through but they just sit there behind the two groups in front of us. Great staff, nice course (geared towards beginner) but they could definitely work on how they are sending everyone out.
Greens Good/Staff Terrible
The course was nice and the greens were in good shape. However, the guy working the shop refused to entertain a rain check with constant lighting occurring. Additionally his attitude was nasty when I asked why. The course should re-evaluate staff.
Pace of Play way too slow
I decided to get out late Friday afternoon and booked a tee time for a single. Got out to the course which is convenient for me and the price was very reasonable. I had time to hit a few balls before my tee time. as able to get on the 1st tee about right on time but was behind a foursome. It took more than 20 minutes for the foursome to move to the 2nd tee. Unfortunately it didn't get any better the whole round. An executive course like this should not take more than 3 1/2 hours to get around. I will play here again because of the convenience and price just hope I some get behind extremely slow players who won't let you play through.
Early still
Greens still recovering from a aeration & sanding. Tee boxes need some TLC. It will take a bit however; for the early bird Spl, the Hooch is my choice. Come full Summer , it'll be fine!
Good course.
We got this round on a "hot deal". It was slightly higher than "hot deals" I've had in the past here, but was ok with it. We were warned ahead of time there was aerating done on the course, so we knew to expect that. The down side of that was, the normal course price due to aeration was the same as our "hot deal". I was not happy to know I fit that time in my schedule to make this special price only to find out, I could have made any tee time I wanted for the same price. I'd feel really mad if I had paid full price on golfnow and found everyone else was paying less.
front nine closed
Showed up the other day to play the Hooch. Found out from the golf shop personell that the front nine was closed and just the back nine was open. I could have paid less at the course as they were discounting the price due to the conditions. So my $6.00 about to golf now was an absolute waste
One of the best in this price range
Played here many times over the past decade, a great place to work on your mid-short game or if you've just started playing. No need to bring driver, no par 5s and only a few bomb-and-gouge par 4s. Decent practice area which you'll need since most strokes are lost on these greens, breaking in weird directions and rolling fairly fast for early March. Even at par 61, breaking 70 here from the tips is an achievement.
A great round for the money
The Hooch is a great course that is relatively easy. You can get into trouble if you get too aggressive, but an intermediate golfer can make pars here if they use good course management. The greens are on the slow side and don't have as much break as they seem.
This is the perfect golf course to relax on and have a good time and it takes less time to play 18 here!
poor cart path
The entire cart path needs to be re-paved.
The course does not drain properly
Range is nice
course layout nice
A good challenge from the tips
A course to take some swings with your irons.
A local 18 hole executive course, no par 5's, no where you would have to hit a driver. Greens were overseeded and played okay. Small greens with slope and undulation on all. Some are elevated however the course is about as flat as it can be. This course gets a lot of traffic from a lot of different players, most are beginner to intermediate, therefore, TONS OF UNREPAIRED BALL MARKS, UNRAKED TRAPS, ETC. so be ready for that. I think I paid $20 on a Sat. on GN HD so not too bad. If you just want to get out and play this is probably okay for you., Week days 3 hours, Weekends 4 or more just due to the SLOW play of hackers, beginners, people hitting 2 or 3 balls on every hole. Give it a try for yourself.
Can't be beat for the money
No par 5 ' s of course, all 3 ' s and 4 ' s but where else can u play 18 w a cart for $11... One would think it'd be packed with prices like that and sometimes it is busy but never as backed up as I've seen elsewhere. Great place to tune up ur irons and short game without investing a ton of cash.
Hot Deals
Normally very friendly and helpful staff. However, Today there was only 1 10:04 Hot deal available . . . So we went early to get a "Early Bird Special" (before 10:00 A.M.) rate for my neighbor . . . They refused to allow a Golf Now "Hot Deal" join an Early Bird rate (4 minutes difference). It was cold and windy . . . With open Tee times. I suggested giving my neighbor an earlier discount rate and starting early . . . Then I could join him after the first hole . . . Since there were open tee times. They would not allow an Early Bird rate period . . . He had to pay the full rate. They do not like Golf
Now "Hot Deals". I doubt we will return due to the attitude etc.
Slow Players and Rude Staff
This course consistently attracts the slowest players I have seen. To top it off the last round I played there, the starter was absolutely the rudest person I had ever encountered on a golf course. I won't be back.
Good place to practice short game.
Good green condition. Good course to practice short game. I enjoyed !!
