About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business.
The Hooch Golf Club sits along the Chattahoochee River in Duluth, sprawling across a scenic landscape covered with ponds and lakes. The course is an executive, par-61 layout that combines traditional features with modern challenges. Although there aren't any par 5s on the golf course there are a few holes that stretch to over 400 yards, which guarantees that you'll be using all the clubs in your bag. There is plenty of water throughout the golf course, including three holes that play right along the river. It might not be what you're looking for if you want something truly formidable, but for a short course it's a good challenge that provides excellent iron practice. Besides the golf course, The Hooch is also known for its 12-acre, lighted driving range. There are also putting and chipping greens with a deep-faced practice bunker.

Great day of golf for under $20 bucks!
The staff was super friendly from the pro shop to the marshal. I enjoyed by B'Day. I admit I wasn't expecting the course to be as crowded as it was. I should have called to ask if there was any scheduled tournaments....that's my fault. Overall the pace of play was relatively smooth by the time my tee time came up. I'm satisfied.
Good iron-play course with well-maintained greens
The greens were in great shape. The course does have cartpath-only much of the time, but its short length and narrow fairways makes this a minor inconvenience.
Perfect executive course for beginners or practice
This is my go to pratice range locally. Pretty good lighted range and practice facility.
The course is short. par 61
I typically dont play my sunday round here, but i like coming here on weekday afternoons if there is something i want to try out on the course. i can get a quick 18 in 3hrs.
The course is in good shape. A perfect place for beginners to learn golf. Its a short course, but enough holes where u could pull driver to make it more fun...
nice par 3 course
the layout of the course is nice. some par 4s and par 3s. playing from the blues adds some dificulty. seems like the yardage on the par 3s are the same club. the greens are very bumpy and slow roll.
Good for Beginners, but course poorly managed
I've practiced and played at the hooch many times, and consistently have pleasant experiences with the staff, but the management and upkeep of this course continues to be lacking the standard of excellence that is expected on a golf course. I'm not looking for Augusta National-like conditions, but for what I'm paying, I do expect Hooch course management to stop being lazy and pay a little more attention to basic course upkeep.
Driving Range - though the driving range is the largest in the area, it is consistently littered with thousands of used tees. There are more broken tees than blades of grass. Speaking of grass, they do not keep it cut at the ideal height – I feel as though I’m almost hitting from the rough. The displayed yardages to the flags are CONSISTENTLY wrong on the portable yardage boards. Take a range finder or you won’t know how far you’re hitting them. It takes 5 minutes to update those yardage boards, but nobody on staff ever does it. The hitting area dividers are set up to where a right handed golfer is hitting off the dirt and standing on the (high# grass – and this is EVERY hitting area. I always have to adjust the board placements just so I can hit off the grass.
Course – Too bad there aren’t seat belts on the golf carts because you’re in for a bumpy ride. Throughout the entire course the cart paths are in awful shape. The course itself is a short, fun layout, but both the greens and especially the green-side bunkers could use some better care.
I hate writing bad reviews, but I’ve also emailed the course about some of these things #especially the yardage markers on the range), and get no response nor see any improvement.
In summary, this course is good for beginners, but for the intermediate golfer and above, go spend just a few more dollars elsewhere where the attitude and uncompromising focus of course management is that of offering a course of beauty, elegance, inspiration, challenge, and fun.
Great golf course!
This is a small golf course but still great! The staff was friendly and the course well amintained. I only played 9 holes but I cant wait to go back and play all 18!
Wet and aerated!
Booked despite the aeration warning. Front 9 was closed so we began on 10. Told front open by noon most likely by the friendly starter. Course is very wet after rain 2 days ago. It is not very well drained so cart path only. After nine we checked and the front was still closed so we called it a day and found a great bar bque joint nearby. We'll be back to both.....
the course is very wet
The course is very wet, but if it shinny day I may to play happily with better course condition
Not bad to practice!
The greens are a little rough...and there is a lot of unkept grass throughout the course. However 25 bucks for 18 with a cart on a Sunday can't be beat. Not a place to get serious, great place to work on my golf game for cheap though!
Course ok
During our play, an employee of the course was very belligerent and confrontational reverting to less than courteous remarks. Very unpleasant experience.
We expressed our dissatisfaction with the owner and noted we would not return to the course in the future.
Golfers beware of the employees.
Great course to keep short game tuned up.
Course in good shape but Greens have a lot of unrepaired ball marks. I play this Course a lot and this is a recurring problem due to the number of "slobs" that play the Course. They need to do a better job of policing the Course and making sure everyone has a ball repair tool in their pocket!!
This course can be very forgiving, requires good shot management.
I really enjoy the opportunity to play with my children. "The Hooch" provides parents this opportunity at a moderately low cost.
The convenience, location, price and a great staff make this one of the best values in town.

This is my go-to course for practice - short and sufficiently challenging.
I love playing The Hooch, one of the better maintained courses in North Atlanta. The greens are in awesome shape and the fairways and rough are being maintained very well, relative to some of the other courses where between high grass in the roughs and leaves all over the place, it's easy to go through a lot of balls in a round. Not so at The Hooch. Losing a ball is your own fault (speaking from experience!).
this course has not bad.
i like this course.
cause why i like play alone.
here is not much player.
i don't have to wait
Good condition and great to hone your iron game
I have played this course 5 or 6 times total over the past three years. I do go to their practice range a lot, however. They ALWAYS have the grass area open and they have good targets. I did book a last minute round on golfnow and didn't know what to expect. I removed all woods from my bag, and was planning ONLY to work on my iron game. I was more than surprised with the condition of the GREENS. I found the greens (all of them) to be in excellent shape. In such good shape in fact that I was able to make some impressive putts - putts that rolled out and held good lines. You know this is only possible if the greens you're putting are in good condition. Did I mention the greens were in good condition?
So, I would play here again and again.
A well maintained short course.
It's a decent short course that is priced fairly. There are a few long par 3's depending on which tees you play from, but since it is a short course there are only par 3's and 4's totaling to a course par of 61. Whether you are new to the game or just want to work on your short game The Hooch is a great venue.
Nice Executive Course
Like all public courses, it's not perfect, but the course is kept in good condition for the amount of play. Greens are consistent and fairways are above average on the par 4's. I would like to see them rework their sand traps.
Great for short game practice
The Hooch is a well maintained "executive course" that is great for a quick 18-hole practice round.
