Great golf
Great course and great layout. Excellent clubhouse and staff. Greens are still being worked on but I really enjoyed it. I will definitely be back.
Almost Perfect, Golf Aside
We drove over from Charlotte to see whether the excellent reviews we'd heard were merited. I would say they were spot on, including the disclaimer that right now the greens are not in great shape. In spite of this I enjoyed the course which, from the Gold tees, is a nice test of my current game. Once new greens have been installed (over the summer), I'll be up anxious to make the occasional road trip. Beyond the greens, the course was in good shape for the time of year. It's an enjoyable layout and the courtesy and friendliness of the staff is first rate. With the above noted caveat about the greens, I highly recommend this course.
Finally got to play it!!!
After hearing about the course for a while, I finally got a chance to play it for myself. I hate that it was NC winter golf, high temperature ~48, but I really enjoyed it and can't wait to get back!
After traveling over an hour to get to the course, it didn't disappoint! Even though the greens had some rough spots, I hear they are being replaced this spring), it was still worth the price! A great layout with some blind shots, some elevation and water...I'll definitely be back!
To be mid-winter the course was in great shape. We received 2" of rain the day before and it still played well.
Great. value
Greens were in bad shape but loved the layout. Can't wait till spring so I can play it again.
Tillary.....nice course..but..
Tilliary is a very nice course.....the staff is very nice..my wife and I did a hot deals special to play.
We only played the front nine so I do not know the course condition on the back. They have just about lost their greens on the front. Hopefully they are able to get them back before long. I highly recommend this course when the greens come back. My overall rating of excellent is based on play before the greens were in poor shape....I am sure they are working hard to repair them.
Greens were unputtable
This course lost their greens during the summer, and as I'm not a Greens Manager, not too sure if they can bring them back before spring without re-sodding them. 2 were temporary, and the other 16 were in sad shape. Would advise calling ahead prior to booking
Worst greens I have ever played.
I drive an hour to play this course and it is normally a very nice, scenic, and challenging course. The greens are apparently diseased and have more sand covering the bare spots than grass. We were not told about the issue before we teed off, or we would have left. I will not be going back until I know the greens are up to par.
Disappointing Greens
We bought what we thought was an excellent value for a course we have played several times before. But when we arrived at the course we found the parking lot nearly deserted. Then we found out why---the greens were in terrible condition!! There were dead spots on all greens and they were nearly covered in sand. We think courses should with greens in this conditions should put this information on Golf Now. No mention of the conditions occurred when we checked in either. Needless to say, this round of golf was quite disappointing!
Lost it!
Let me first say I've played this course several times in past years and have always loved it. Great layout and in the past always great conditions. Unfortunately this summer apparently got ahead of someone with the bent grass greens and they have lost them all. There are two holes with temporary greens, the remainder have medium to extreme damage due to heat. Some greens will need to be re-sodded as there is no hope of these coming back with seeding. It was sad to see, and it hurts to write this review but I had no idea until I'd already paid to play. Be warned, it's rough! The tee boxes, fairway are all in great shape. The sand traps, although mostly decent have not been raked in days. The lazy golfers clearly had been in them days before we played.
Country Club Experience
I really enjoyed playing this course, with one exception. At least four of the greens showed signs of distress. I was informed of this prior to teeing off, and it was obvious the management was doing all that it could to address this issue. Otherwise, it was a wonderful morning on the course. Nice layout, and well maintained. Staff was the friendliest that I have ever encountered. Somewhat off the beaten path, but well worth the effort to get there. I had a great time.
Golf at Lake Tillery
It is probably the prettiest place I have ever played and I have played many of the local courses. The staff are nice, and it's surprisingly laid back for such a nice course and club. The scenery is beautiful. I saw some deer out there. The difficulty is difficult enough that it challenges you without frustrating you.
Beautiful layout
Tillery Tradition is a beautiful course and the clubhouse was very elaborate. My boys and I played together and had a great round. Due to the heat, some of the greens aren't in the best of condition.
You need to play this course a few times though as there are some blind shots and dog legs in which you really can't determine what clubs to hit on the first round.
Gotta switch to Bermuda.
Course is in great shape, except for the greens.
20+ consecutive days of 90 plus degree weather has just murdered the bent grass greens.
Not really the management's fault, but we are in North Carolina.
Same ol' Tillery
Pretty much the standard condition of Tillery. A couple years ago the greens were completely lost, they are mostly back now. The problem is they are very bumpy, to the point of your putts really have little chance of making past 5 or 6 feet. The tees were not bad, little high. The fairways were average with a couple holes being treated with aeration to try and save. The bunkers were okay with a fair amount of sand. It is a standard, average course. It features a large amount of blind tee shots so you may struggle if you are unaware of the landing zones. The course is not bad for your buddy rounds if you catch a good deal on a website.
I believe the clubhouse was given the bulk of the money the club generated, so the course came in third behind it and the pool.
five star
you need to play this course 2 or 3 times to know where to hit right or left of flag . the more you play it the better you score ex..cond,,
Nice course
Had the day off and wanted to play something new. Had heard good things about the course and wasn't dissapointed. Nice layout, very fair from where we played (6000 yds) and no gimmicky holes. Nice elevation changes and mix of short and long par 4's and reachable par 5's. Greens in real good shape. No complaints here and will definitely play again. Better than most in the same price range.
frustrating
Got there on time even early paid at course Was told to go to the box and tee off. We get to the first tee four groups at first tee members on Marshall 35 minute before we tee off . The members were having a tournament and they took all day to play 6 hour day worst day i even had at this course. So be careful when you book this course. The young guy in the pro shop had nothing to say.
