Tot Hill in great shape
Course was in very good shape. Greens were soft, but still fairly quick. Stay below the hole! Fairways and tee boxes in good shape also. Great layout with no 2 holes the same. Some will call it target golf, but plenty of room off the tee. Get a course guide if it's your first time playing there. Friend had a chicken salad sandwich, and said it was very good. Well worth the drive into the country, for a nice quiet round of golf.
This course is a one of a kind. It has rocks, creeks hills ruff plush fairways,
The day we went to play this course somebody forgot to tell golfnow that they were having a tournament. It was so backed up on the back nine that it was noway to complete our round. very disappointing to say the least. So we had to just play the front again.
Going downhill fast!!!!
I have played this course a number of times over the last 7 years but the recent change of owners seems to signal a big change in course conditions and pace of play. The greens were terrible, crabgrass everywhere, the picturesque nature of the course is now shabby with erosion happening everywhere. I played there yesterday and was held up by a group of "golfers" who actually took 6 hours to complete 18 holes #try not hitting 4 tee shots each, looking for 3 of your previous tee shots, try picking up after you've taken 10 on a hole and please don't insist on re-taking a putt when you missed it#. Bottom line, course conditions are going downhill, no starter, no rangers and lastly no beer!
Fun layout
Scoreable course, IF you keep it in play, but be prepared to lose a ball or two. Greens were a little beaten up with ball marks, but overall rolled well at a decent speed, and fairways were in good shape. Very picturesque course, and I always enjoy playing there.
Another Stranz course.
Played Tobacco rd the week prior and this course is not nearly as funky as that. You can see where to place the ball even if you can't always do it.The layout is good and is in pretty good shape for the weather we have had this year.My favorite hole was 12 which was a risk reward hole you can go around or you can go for it over the water. There are also some v pretty holes. Its way out there in the country.I am glad I played it and would recommend it but too far to drive from Charlotte on a regular basis.Pace of play was excellent on front nine but slowed on the back.
tot hill farm golf rating
i would say that this was one of the better courses that i have seen this time of yr..the course was in great shape,,with some challenging holes that you had to place your shots off the tee..the staff was very friendly..i would recommend this course as a must play for anyone..
Great course
Course was a lot of fun. You have to go in with a different mindset. The course is very difficult, so don't expect to score well. The views and some of the shots that are required you Will not find anywhere else.
Fun and different
A very hilly, tough, but fun not boring course. I'll play it again now that I know where to not hit the ball
Solid value, just not perfect
Very cool design that isn't as hard as many make it out to be. Definitely get their mobile app to see where you're going, but distances are hard to get because you may not have cell service in the boonies. Conditions were solid, but they punched the greens 1.5 weeks ago, so there are still a few bumps and they were VERY soft. Lastly, their business operations could use some tightening up as there was a lot of confusion over starting times, they ran out of range balls and they can't sell beer while they await a new license.
This is an awesome course!
This course is great. Do NOT expect a low score no matter how good you are. There is not the first inch of flat spot on the course. Beautiful location, loved how nature was incorporated throughout! The tee at one is spectacular. Really set the stage for what's in store. One thing though, they do need to let you know about the app for the hole discriptions before you start not assume you know. We found out when we stop by the club store before starting the back nine. It would have been helpful for the front. They do not have the descriptions on the score cards.
Even though we live an hour away, we will be returning!!!
Great Course but be ready
This is a great course if your looking for something different. Do not come and expect to shoot a great score. Come to have fun and appreciate the imagination of the course design. Its very different but also very fun!
Better than expected
Greens: Bent grass greens were as good as there going to be for being late summer in NC. They rolled true and were very receptive. Only # 18 had some goose grass on it. 8/10
Fairways: Front 9 still show some signs of "winter kill" and weren't mowed but they were still not bad. Back 9 no "winter kill" and fairways were mowed and they were excellent. 7.5/10
Rough is the rough. Especially on a course with a lot of space.
Pace of play was very good. I did the all you can play and got 36 holes in.
Overall the new management is doing a good job so far. I'll be back
Well worth $38
Classic Mike Stranz! Course requires shot placement and strategy, but overall a great place to play!
Must play
A challenge yet as much fun as you can have on a golf course. Hit every club in your bag. Generous fairways but a premium is on the approach. Some very difficult pins when playing # 3 placements.
Scenic with no distractions from traffic or surrounding homes.
Fairways in great shape as long as you avoid the boulders!
Receptive greens that roll nicely.
Don't think it's easy because it's only 5632 from the whites
Tot Hill Farms Golf Course
Always great to play, very difficult course. Course
is in beautiful shape.
Target golfers rejoice
Really loved this course. I'm a mid-handicapper (11), not a long hitter (220 yd drives), and I played this course from the White tees (since it was my first round here), and I shot 81 and had an absolute blast. There are a lot of downhill tee shots and uphill approach shots, so club selection can be a challenge. But despite the undulations, the lies in the fairway are not too severe up/down/sidehill-wise. It's when you get in the first cut of rough that the lies become a (fun) challenge. Many of the intimidating looking slopes, humps, bumps, and hills actually do a great job of funneling slightly offline shots to playable spots.
If you have played Tobacco Road (in Sanford, NC), then you will find this course to be similar, but a little more forgiving.
The course is downright beautiful. And when I played, the fairways and greens were in really good shape.
If you have an iPhone, be certain to get the Tot Hill Farm iPhone app. The included GPS feature worked well, and the hole-by-hole yardage information and 3D flyover videos for each hole were absolutely essential for me to have any idea where to hit to on a few of the visually confusing holes.
If this course were 30 minutes from my house (instead of 2 hours), I'd play the majority of my golf here.
Faint of Heart
I played this course on 7/4/15 and 7/5/15 I'm a high 70's till mid 80's golfer let me say the course won .on the first day I shoot 90 even 48 on the front 9 and 42 on the back. Awesome experience the course is in great shape so I had to go back to see if I could improve on my round let's say I didn't I only lost a total of 6 balls through 2 round I think that is a mission accomplished. So if you want to test your game or drive your friends crazy this is the place
One of the most breathtaking courses in the area
This course rewards great iron play. You don't have to be long off the tee, but accuracy is at a premium. Thoroughly enjoyable.
No longer a Pinehurst area top pick
My wife and I travel around this continent to play golf. We enjoy playing difficult courses and we appreciate what it takes to maintain a good golf course. We were very disappointed in the quality of maintenance of this course. There is a lot dead/dormant grass throughout the layout, weeds over a foot tall in some fairways, and it appeared the flag position had not moved in several days. In fairness the back nine was better than the front, if want to play this course I suggest you play the back nine twice.
This course cannot be walked, ride only.
With some TLC Tot Hill Farm could be great again, I hope management does not let it slip any further.
Final comment - this course is not exactly in the Pinehurst area as suggested by GolfNow - it is 40 miles from Pinehurst! We booked play there before checking the driving distance....
Hi Dave,
I'm sorry that you had a bad experience on your day of play at Tot Hill. I feel your pain on the pace of play that day. 6 hours on the course would put a damper on any golfers day. We were aware of the issue with the large group in front of you and I apologize we we're unable resolve it. I hope you will give us another shot to experience Tot Hill at it's best. Please give Scott a call at 1-336-857-4455 to discuss further.
