It’s a tough course
They are going to close may 14 . Getting new Bermuda greeens , opening back up Labor Day
Excellent Value!
I wasn't sure what to expect with Tot Hill Farms... reviews on GolfNow were all over the map, but I decided I should play Tot Hill before they renovate to see the before and compare to the after, for a $36 hot deal it was a no brainer.
The design itself is an amazing Strantz layout, it honestly could be a better layout than Tobacco Road (my opinion). The conditions were not perfect, some tee boxes were struggling but the greens and the rest of the course were in awesome shape! I think the greens rolled a 9 or 10 and if you were above the hole you were dead.
Do yourself a favor and play it before they close in May to Renovate, guy in the proshop said they were hoping to be back open in September.
$74 definitely not worth the money
Played today with friends. Could not believe we paid $74 to play this course. The layout is really good, but it ends there. The cart paths are torn up everywhere, many are just rocks. There are trees cut down all over the place. The greens are in ok shape, but many of them are not that great. Bunkers are completely torn up, I guess they are replacing them. No signage anywhere for tees, holes or directions.
There was 1 guy working in the pro shop. He was collecting for greens fees and also getting food. What the heck is going on here? Maybe 25 people playing here as the cost to play is definitely not worth the experience. Now I know why no one was out there today, it's not worth it.
We were told changes were coming, so why are they charging so much for a course in disarray? So if you are considering playing the course, go somewhere else. I would be embarrassed as the owners to charge this much. The course is not worth the price to play.
If you want alcohol, bring your own as they dont serve it. Good luck finding a trash can on the golf course. I had a turkey and cheese sandwich at the turn, what a joke, worst ive ever had a golf course.. Come on people...if this is all you have to offer, charge $30 per person or shut it down now.
Mike Strantz is rolling over in his grave seeing how this place is run. Good luck to the new owners who are supposedly doubling the greens fees. They have a lot of work to do to make this a $50 golf course, much less a $74 course. Greens are fun and entertaining, but don't waste your time here.
Good layout that will improve with time
We played this course on the way to True Blue/Caledonia, and could definitely see the Mike Strantz creativity in the layout. Several spots where the fairways and greens need a little TLC, but it is apparent that the new ownership is heavily investing in the future of this course. If you can get over the construction on the perimeter of the course, you will enjoy the course for the price. I will be interested in seeing how the course matures over the next 3-5 yrs.
A Great Experience
We played THF on a perfect late February day.A unique difficult course designed around big rocks, lots of streams and extreme elevation changes, both up and down.
The course isn’t in great shape but they are doing lots of work on it.Many trees have been cut to open air flow and bunker are being redone.
Give it a try,it’s worth the drive for the price.
Great course
One of the best courses around, in my opinion. It's been a while since the greens were decent, and they were today. They have cut trees around the greens which has helped significantly. They also told me they were going to be changing out the greens to bermuda shortly, and the course would be closing. Also said the rates would be going up significantly.
Greens are back!
Glad to see the greens have recovered from the disaster last year and earlier this year! Still some spotty rough spots but mainly quite puttable and smooth! Lots of work going on with tree removable as well. Looks like the owners are finally investing in this hidden gem. Can’t wait to get back, one of my personal favorites in the area. Similar to Tobacco Road but much more affordable. Nice job THF!!
Expected More
Course was in generally rough shape, even for the season. Greens rough in some places, excellent in others. The layout was nice and I would imagine it would be much better in season. Don’t book the range rate online, you won’t see the range in the morning, but you’ll still pay. Service was just awful. The gentlemen in the clubhouse was aloof. He challenged if I had a tee time,. I told him I booked online this morning, he qipped back “I didn’t see anything”. Magically the tee time was there. He told me I would be lost if he didn’t explain some things to me (like how a pin sheet worked). He also suggested I play the tees at 5700 yds. I was curious and asked him why he suggested that. I know sometimes playing a challenging course alone for the first time can be difficult to know where the target is. He instead said, it’s like 400 yds shorter than the next tee set (no kidding, you don’t say). He never asked my handicap, how far I hit, or anything to make the suggestion. Very odd. I played his suggested tees, it was far too short, quite a few par 4’s were drivable. I hit a half wedge into a par 5 on my second shot. It was like playing a pitch and putt. I know I could have moved back on my own, by the time I was convinced it was just bad advice, I just wanted to see how low I could go. So, I guess really thats on me. Not a great experience. Not worth the price.
Great course! I’ve seen in in spring it’s pretty course lots af scenic holes . Hard but fun to play! My friends love it when they come to town
Lost It's Luster
It should never take over 5.5 hours to play 18 holes. Tot Hill Farm is a very difficult course requiring play from the appropriate tee's. A course Marshall does not exist. Greens had numerous damaged areas that were almost impossible to putt through. Played Tot Hill Farm about 12 yrs ago & was excited to play again. Extremely disappointed. Not the same quality of course! I did remember the Pro Shop being minimalistic but did not remember it being so sparsely stocked. Glad I got to play it again because I am a fan of Mike Strantz designed courses, e.g. Tobacco Road & Caledonia. Was just disappointing to see a decline as it is a unique experience.
Diamond in the rough
Great Mike Strantz design Every hole is fun Love this course more and more every time I play it Greens are better but still not great Other than that no complaints
Great fun course
Had a fun time
Played solo and shot 77
Very fair play
Good greens and nice fairways
A course you should try
It was the fall so the course was beautiful. If you are not familiar with the course you can easily get into trouble. Course is in very good condition and it is a well worth playing
Course is not as good as you see from the road
Looks can be deceiving! Great looking course from the road, driving range is great, and decent club house. Once you get past holes 1-2 the greens are TBD. I hate it for such a beautiful place and so close to home. Hopefully things will come around eventually.
