Not too happy
Booked as a single, no disclaimer that I would be paired with 3 others. Would not refund since I was booked through GOLFNOW app. 4th golfer never showed up and course was backed up. Couldn’t finish 18. 3 hours to get through 9 with game play in front of us.
Overpriced average course
Let me start by saying the course was just ok. Nothing special about it. The staff was fine. The driving range was fine. The course itself was decent but not for the price. The course was on par with any average municipal course in the US, but nothing special. None of the holes were particularly inspiring and the bunker placement and quantity seemed random and uninspired.
As for the other stuff. No water coolers on any holes, no trash cans on any holes. No clubhouse snack shop. No gps in the carts. No clubhouse turn.
All in all if this was a $50 course it would be fine, still not great, but I would suggest finding another option at this price. I have no interest in playing it again and will look for other options in the area.
In good shape
Course is in good shape and is challenging. Greens were fast.
Golf course
Hello! The golf course plays really well and I enjoyed my time playing there. The staff, inside and outside were really friendly however management could be better from the things that I seen and have heard. Overall, great course and I will be coming back soon!
Very disappointing
Played on Oct. 12, 2024. Was excited to get out and play a new course. No problems with arrival or getting to the first tee. Once I teed off, it was a slog fest of an afternoon. The routing of this course is excellent; will say that off the bat. Could’ve used longer tees, but that may also have been an issue with me being there for the first time. Greens were bumpy which was disappointing this time of year. Pace of play was brutal; took 4.5 hours to play 16 holes as a single. Staff really should have stepped in and asked slow groups to pick up the pace or let others play through, which is a management issue (I get it), but it took what should have been a nice afternoon and turned it into a disaster. I did not get my money’s worth out of the course, and do not expect to be back for some time.
Disappointed
I was disappointed with the course conditions.
A couple holes were actually closed for unknown reasons (did not see any persons working on the holes that were closed), greens showed signs of neglect and were ridiculously slow. I paid a reduced rate throughGolf Now and still felt ripped off. Won’t play again anytime soon..
Worst experience. Greens and 2 holes were shut down and we still paid over $100 each
Hopefully, we get our money back because it was very very slow play, 3 holes underwater and greens were bad
Value?
For the $100+ round, I was hoping for better course conditions. Greens were slow and in average condition. Fairways were inconsistent with nice fairway grass in some spots, but bare in others. Pace of play was a little slow, but not too bad…. almost 5 hours. Will play again, but not for $100+.
Great course
I play this course fairly regularly now do to how they maintain it. Always in good shape.
Overpriced
Really like the layout but course is overpriced. No twilight rate either, greens are super slow and bumpy. (Partly bc people don’t fix their ball marks…STOP BEING LAZY PEOPLE AND FIX YOUR BALL MARK!!)
Club house also over charged us by $100 and had to dispute.
Fantastic course
Carolina Lakes is in the heart of a planned community, although it winds through a housing development, the houses aren’t intrusive and it’s a very expansive course. Many holes you have a lot of room and options off the tee. There are some intimidating forced carries if you let them bother you but if you play the right tees you’ll be fine. Bunker placement is strategic, so bring your range finder to determine the carries, although many holes you have the room to avoid instead of trying to fly them.
Clubhouse is nice, the restaurant is nice. Be warned, cart path only can be tiring because there are a lot of hills. Driving range is nice. It’s a semi private course with a membership that they keep it real nice for. The conditions were very good. Definitely worth the trip and the price is good for what you get.
Nice layout
You would need to play this course several times to really know the best place to put your tee shot or best place to be on the green. Great condition though the greens are on the slow side. Absolutely huge traps and greens but a great layout and loved the course.
Tremendously Overpriced
I decided to return to this course after a 2 year hiatus as the last time I played the greens were completely burnt and borderline unplayable.
Positives: 1) Pace of play 2) Fun and challenging layout 3) Burnt greens have been repaired
Negatives: Upon approaching the 9th hole, there were 2 trucks and 3 greenskeepers in the bunker guarding the green. At one point I thought the green was under repair but I decided to play and literally hit an approach shot over them. Upon reaching the green, it turns out they were just on their break and hanging out, They didn’t even move when one of the players in my group had to hit a bunker shot a foot away from them. I have never seen anything like this in my life. On top of this, the course itself was fine at best, not very well kept and the greens were extremely slow, especially given it hasn’t rained. The fact that this course is +$100 on a weekend is clinically insane, I have no idea who would pay that type of price, there’s plenty of other and better options in the area. This course should be $70 at most (which is what I paid for a weekday round)
