Located just north of Tampa in Tarpon Springs, Crescent Oaks Country Club sprawls across rolling hills dotted with sparkling lakes. The narrow course has a traditional layout that was carefully carved from dense woodlands, making it a challenging test. The lakes as well as a meandering creek come into play throughout the golf course. There are also a few strategically placed bunkers along the greensides. The par-5 10th is one of the most memorable holes with an elevated green and a ridge cutting across the middle. Par is considered a good score on this tricky hole. The golf course finishes with a par-4 dogleg left that features water along the entire left side of the fairway. The green is also protected by sand on the right and water on the opposite side.

Challenging but fair

The course is in good shape, the layout is challenging but fair. The greens are in great shape. Price is reasonable. Highly recommend playing this course.

Good course; slow play

Enjoyable course but tee times got messed up so start times (second time in 2 weeks) were running almost 40 minutes behind with several groups backed up on #1 tee. The result was extremely slow play which was nearly unbearable. Great weather saved the round. Still the course is good enough to give it another shot.

Public player and former golf course owner and superintendant

The course is very long when wind is blowing. Tough to get it over the water off tee. Need to be air borne at least 200 yards or your in the water at many holes

The course and greens are in good shape. People on course and pro shop very friendly I will play again next week

Golf now saves at least 15 bucks

Great Track

This is a great little track that is not too hard and not too easy. The course is fairly straight forward and wide open with a few challenging holes. The greens are a little too small for the course; which may prove challenging for some players.

My biggest complaint about this course and many other local courses...If you are going to have sand traps on your course, please at least make them reasonably playable! We live in FL, where there is no shortage of quality sand, and there is absolutely NO reason or excuse not to have beautiful sand traps with plenty of quality sand to hit out of; (1/4" to 1") before hitting hard pan does not cut it.

"Sand Depth: The USGA recommends an average sand depth of4 to 6inches at the base of a bunker and 2 to 3 inches on bunker faces. Following this recommendation reduces plugged lies on bunker faces and allows for a full swing through the sand without digging into the liner or subsoil."

At least this course tries to groom/rake them daily, but when there isn't enough quality sand depth to properly hit out of them, then they are useless and annoying. Playing from the sand doesn't bother me and I would rather hit out of sand vs. rough; unless, sand traps do not have proper drainage, and/or are not properly maintained & filled. Also, most sand trap were missing rakes at this course, so I recommend either including one with each cart (which I hate) or have one or two available at every sand trap. That said, it probably didn't matter anyway; why waste time raking hard pan or compacted sand???

Outside of that one thing (sand traps), this is probably one of my favorite courses to play.

Good course reasonably priced

Have played this course a few times when in the Tampa area. It is consistently in good shape and provides sufficient challenges for even a good golfer (not claiming to be one). Greens were not that fast but one must still bring the A game.

Pleasantly surprised with pace of play - in Florida this time of year many courses pack in the out of towners and the pace of play suffers. Not so here.

Nice course - hidden dangers

The course is scenic with a nice layout. There are a number of spots on the course with water crossing a fairway that isn't obvious from the tee box (numbers 1 and 6 that I recall - I believe there are others.) If you are wild off the tee this probably isn't a course you'd enjoy. Several shots require placement of the ball into a safe area. There are places on the course where a smart layup is called for (#6 2nd shot unless you'e a big hitter). Keep an eye out for gators, deer, turkeys and a variety of other birds -you'll probably see some or all of the above.

play conservatively

A very difficult course for me. Played white tees and that was tough enough believe me. My good drives go 200 down here. Some holes are best played as par five to avoid trouble. Tight lies require playing the ball back in stance a little and around green putter is best often and like in the U.K. playing along the ground is wise. On greens you must consider the grain. A great challenge. I played again 2 days later and scored 20 strokes better (92) but it still got me when I let my concentration lapse. Take the challenge!

Sand

We live in Florida...I would love to see more sand in the hazards... Very difficult with packed dirt/mud.. Otherwise like the course.
