Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club
About
Opened in 1922, Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club is one of the oldest courses in the Tampa Bay area. In fact, it's the only 18-hole golf course in Florida that's listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It's the centerpiece of the Temple Terrace community and it's much loved by locals. At 6,443 yards from the back tees, the golf course is short by modern standards but what it lacks in length it makes up for in other challenges. The layout has a traditional design with small greens and tree-lined fairways that demand accuracy. Several strategically positioned bunkers also come into play along the greens. There are some tight spots and a fair amount of tricky holes, but overall Temple Terrace is player friendly enough for all skill levels.

Change of pace from most Tampa Bay area courses
I really enjoyed playing here as it is the only course I've played in the Tampa Bay area over the past 6 months that wasn't a course located in marshy-swampy areas as most are.
That being said instead of water hazards, the challenges were trees and well placed sand traps.
I want to go and play there again because my round was affected I believe due to a sore back that flared up right before I played.
Driving straight is critical as nearly every hole has trees that have low branches on each side of fairway. Greens aren't large and most have traps on each side in front.
You get good bounce off these fairways, something you won't get at many other courses in the area as they are much wetter. The greens are in good shape. They get more difficult in later holes as the slopes drop off and putts can roll 6-7 feet past the cups if slightly tapped too hard.
Some of the holes had narrow greens and the sand traps were on each side, had a couple of "outs" from those traps that went from one side and rolled into the other side of the trap. Greens are fast too.
Nice old track!!
Went out early to work on my game, no one in sight and flew around the course. Greens were nice so was the rest of the course. I like the old layout, played a lot of HS matches there as a junior always brings back good memories. If you have not played there before it is a must play, especially for the great deals GN has.
The only negative for this place is the members and the employees hate that we are out there playing on their course and you can feel the bad vibe from them...if they don't like it then the club should raise the dues and the members need to pony up!! That is life in the golf world these days, either put up or shut up!
This course is a well laid out tree course.
Temple Terrace Country Club is a very well maintained course. Staff is very friendly and helpful. They need to update their golf carts.
Terrible Maintenance
Dead trees everywhere and no on course drinking water. Ridiculous to have a course in Florida with 90 plus degree weather and no on course water. management has known about these issues and have done nothing.
Members Come First
Was pleasantly surprised with the condition of the golf course. The greens were pure, fast and rolling true. Could not find any pitch marks to speak of. The tee boxes and fairways were also in good shape. Played the tips, which are only about 6350, so it is not particularly long. The fairways are pretty generous, but trees overhang in several places.
The downside: After only three holes, caught a group of members playing a fivesome, and stayed stuck behind them for 15 holes. They had another group of members playing a fivesome in front of them. There was never any hint they might ask my twosome to play through, and they just ignored us as if we were not even there. Called the pro shop to see what was up, and was told that members are permitted to play fivesomes, so the message was pretty much, "you don't pay dues here, so don't complain".
My only other complaint is there is NO DRINKING WATER anywhere on the golf course, and no beverage cart. Not sure how you run a golf course in the summer in Florida and not provide any drinking water.
The golf course itself I kind of enjoyed, but I probably won't play it again because I don't want to feel like an outsider.
Nice Old Style Course
The greens were absolutely gorgeous. I'm told they are pretty new. Rolled true and were almost flawless.
BIG NEGATIVE-NO DRINKING WATER ANYWHERE ON THE COURSE. There is absolutely no excuse for that. We are in Florida in the summer in 90+ heat and no drinking water? Sorry I won't be back.
Never again
I can't begin to explain how bad this experience was. When I booked it on Golfnow, it said member for a day and I certainly did not experience any benefit of being a member. No cold drinking water or cart girl on the course either. I certainly would NOT want to be a member there. No driving range and the putting green is literally next to the 1st tee. So after finishing the 7th hole, there stood a girls HS match just teeing off.... 12 girls. Who starts a HS match on the 8th hole?? I called the pro shop and 1, they didn't know there was a girls match today and 2, coaches told them that they normally start on 8.... And yup, I guess the school runs the country club and makes the decision. I left after that and I can't report on how great the conditions or layout was or wasn't. Just didn't care much about this course anymore. Just a really bad bad experience and I would never ever play or recommend anyone to play there. Spend your hard earn money elsewhere!
Really like this course
First time playing this course and really liked it. Much higher quality course than we expected... greens in excellent condition but not terribly fast, relatively small. Fairways and tee boxes all very good... neither of us had any bad lies we didn't deserve. Sand traps immaculate.
Layout fairly basic, no crazy holes, but tree limbs can be a menace. You need to put the ball in the right places, because you can be in the fairway and have no clear shot at the green. On one hole (might have been around 16 or so) if you're hitting from the blue tees, you have to keep your tee shot awkwardly low. The trees have certainly matured over the years, and in a few spots might be trimmed back a bit to improve playability and to not punish good shots.
Only gripe about the course, and it's a minor one, is the lack of drinking water anywhere on the course. There are a couple of soda machines out there, but sometimes you want water... and the only place to get it is at the turn.
All said, the course conditions are comparable with some of the best in the area. Higher quality course than many more heavily-played local favorites.
sneedeker
great classic course greens are very grainy but pure
Boring layout
I've played this course in the past because the greens and fairways were very nice. The tee boxes were good and the fairways were nice but the greens had been just plugged and sanded. No one let us know prior to our purchase. The layout is boring compared to some of the other courses I play regularly. I probably won't go back unless a group of my friends want to play there. Not unhappy but more neutral on the course quality and experience. I would rather play Disney or Celebration for comparable prices.
Love Temple Terrace
I brought my step dad here and he didn't know the course existed. He loved the layout and how challenging the course was. He quickly learned that while it looks open, you must hit the fairways. To be off by a few feet means you will be battling low laying tree branches. We both played well.
A replay is already in the forecast!!!!!
TPC like conditions on a budget. Great course at a great price!
My wife and I played Temple Terrace Country Club yesterday morning. 8:20 a.m. tee time. Pro shop guys were great and quick to get us out. The staff all around was great, we ate lunch in the restaurant there and the food was very good. This course is semi private but sometimes allows Member for a Day on Golf Now. We took advantage of $35.00 green/cart fees per person and were glad we did. The course is in tremendous shape! We haven't had much rain at all in May this year and most other courses we have played in the Tampa Bay area have been dried out and burnt out in some cases. 16 of the 18 fairways were pristine and even the other two were still in good shape. The greens were almost perfect, my hats off the greens keeper at this course. He/She is doing a fantastic job of things. We plan on going back and would highly recommend this course to anyone playing in the Tampa area.
The Course has great features
First time playing at this course. Fairways were nice and firm. The greens were fast and well maintained. The grounds crew is taking great care of this course..
Enjoyable course
Great greens. Fairways need to grow some grass. We need rain for them to grow.
Very nice, fun old Tampa course
First time playing here and was pleasantly surprised! The course was very fun, with quite a bit of movement in the greens. Fairways were in great shape, greens were perfect and rolled true, and are very well protected with green-side bunkers on practically every approach shot. A few holes had water hazards but was pretty easy to avoid them.
Overall, it's not a very hard course, unless you start hitting into the trees lining every fairway.
I'll definitely play it again!
Great layout
Beautiful greens and a nice layout. A few fairways are in rough shape
Old time goodness
My buddy from Chicago and I played and really enjoyed the course, courtesy and scenery. Lots of nice old homes and even a college along the course but not close enough to be a problem. The course was in great shape, both fairways, bunkers and greens. Will definitely play this again.
Nice old school course
Very straight forward design but still a challenge. Course penalized you if you got off the fairway. Condition was very good.
Thirsty
My gps kept taking me to 9 hole executive course mile away. Turns out new construction (moved club house) confused gps. Course condition (despite tons of rain) great and layout awesome. Felt like I was back in military with "tuck in shirt" rule. No water coolers on course, just one suspect water fountain. Greens and fairways great shape, bunkers maintained. A lot of traffic that will NOT yield. Off line shots will end up out of bounds in street.
