Northstar California Golf Course
About
Northstar California Golf Course has a unique layout that was seamlessly integrated with the rugged, wooded terrain of Tahoe. The front nine plays through a scenic, rolling valley while the back nine plays through the towering pines of the forest. The first nine holes have a classic links layout and the back nine demands precision with its tree-lined fairways and small greens. Native vegetation and scenic water hazards are scattered throughout the golf course. Strategically placed sand bunkers add another challenging element. The signature hole at Northstar California Golf Course is the par-3 15th, which requires a shot over a creek to a small green.

Playing North Star again today wit more balls.
Really nice course, but it's little early in the year, so it's wet. The second rough is well...rough...and unmowed, so forget about any balls that go in there! The meadow half of the course is fairly straightforward but that rough will eat some balls. The mountain part of the course is pretty challenging and you can't see the flagstick or the green from a lot of the tees. The woods will chomp on your balls here...fun course, great staff but take some extra balls! Couldn't beat the deal anywhere else around here, so becoming more of a course expert later today.
quick play, course in good condition
Good staff almost too easy going. No enforced dress code - most other players observed in tee - shirts and work out shorts. Not very professional atmosphere. Die hard traditional golfers would not like it. But course in good shape and a quick play. Excellent value.
Beautiful links style course!
Good mix of open meadow and tight timbered holes. Great value, especially their twilight or golfnow discounted rate. Staff is super friendly, one of the nicer tahoe courses, and definitely the best priced.
Dr. Jekyll/ Mr. Hyde type of course---front nine in a meadow, back nine with narrow fairways and lots of trees.
Interesting layout, but one that needs to be played more than once to avoid unpleasant surprises. Great place to practice both links and mountain style golf. If you tend to spray your shots, bring lots of golf balls.
Fantastic scenery.some tough holes.
The course was very, very wet. Almsot marsh like in some places. We try to play there at least once a year. It was in much better shape in previous years. The people in the pro shop and restaurant are always so friendly and helpful.
Fun and challegeing
2nd nine more challenging but intereting and fun. Very friendy and helpful staff. We plan on returning again soon.
Management must not be paying attention to the operation.
The staff did not represent the course well. Rude, inattentive and hassled our foursome through out the round. After the round the staff were still awful in the club house and bar. We won't be back.
A Mountain to Meadow jewel
The Northstar golf course is is a course of two faces. The front nine takes you out into the meadows with just a flavor of Alpine trees while the back nine is target oriented mountain golf.
Just when you think the course offers you a blessing in the form of flat to gently undulating holes with great views of the Truckee meadows and basin, you hit the 10th hole.
From there, the difficulty is magnified as the tall pines line the fairways and undulations turn into something much greater.
I have always found the back nine to be a great measure of how good a golfer's game is. Play the back nine at bogey level and you are a better player... The lower the stronger a player you are.
first time playing, loved it
Front nine you play down hill to the meadows, back nine up hill into the pines and aspens your irons are your friend
If the staff "hassled" 'your group throughout the round, you must be very slow players. When golfers play slowly and they and are asked to speed up, they call it being hassled. Perhaps an easy muni course later in the day would suit you better. The Northstar staff has always been great to us.
