Northstar California Golf Course
About
Northstar California Golf Course has a unique layout that was seamlessly integrated with the rugged, wooded terrain of Tahoe. The front nine plays through a scenic, rolling valley while the back nine plays through the towering pines of the forest. The first nine holes have a classic links layout and the back nine demands precision with its tree-lined fairways and small greens. Native vegetation and scenic water hazards are scattered throughout the golf course. Strategically placed sand bunkers add another challenging element. The signature hole at Northstar California Golf Course is the par-3 15th, which requires a shot over a creek to a small green.

Golfer Reviews
Course is in great shape!
I've played this course a few times in the past but this is probably the best it's looked. It just opened a week ago so course conditions were excellent. Looking forward to playing it again in the fall when rates go back down.
Course is good, needs attention.
Visited for a weekend and enjoyed playing but the slow play was very ridiculous. Groups ahead had no courtesy for people waiting and a Marshall could of helped that. Upon checking in, the only person who greeted us and wanted to take care of us was the person at the bar. The staff at the counter to pay for our fees, ignored us. We had to approach them to let them know were hear to golf or else they would continue chatting as if were just there to shop in the store. Not the greatest customer service but we made the best out of it ourselves.
Awesomeness
It was our first time playing at Northstar. We were a little concerned about it being the end of the season and with snow in the forecast. Each time( within the 48hr window) I called in and changed the day of our 4some, I was greeted with someone one the other end willing to accommodate us.
When we showed up, everyone was very helpful and willing to direct us where we needed to go.
The greens rolled very smooth and we enjoyed the differences between the front 9 and forest like back 9.
End of our round found us buying Northstar swag and the same good natured attitude greeted us in the Pro Shop.
We are looking forward to playing Northstar again next season.
Best Value for a great course!!!!!!!!!!
I have played just about everything out there, the back 9 on this course, was the hardest course I have ever played, if you are a real 12 and above, DON'T EXPECT to score well, your hope is you only lose a few balls, I was impressed on the price how great the course was, there are plenty of okay courses charging way to much and not half as good as this course, I compare this place to Apple Mountain on super steroids, if you go right or left on this course your ball is gone, this was the first course I have played on that made me think, why am I playing here and even after all of that, I think it was one of the best courses I have played, especially that back 9, I was told slope rating of 140.
Greens in great shape, course pretty good too. However to order lunch at 9 tee box to keep place of play, phone service no good , went to voicemail 3 times. Roll up and had to wait a while, other than that found time. 4 hour pace
Golf Now Costs More
Northstar is always awesome. I booked through Golf Now assuming that I would be enjoying a discount. Shame on me for making that assumption. Turns out that booking with Golf Now costs $8 more per person than booking through the Northstar Proshop.
A Genuine Tahoe Golf Experience
This was a great experience. We went on a Monday and pretty much had the course all to ourselves. We had the 1:50 tee time that was the 50% deal. We rented clubs. Which were very nice rentals. They were TM QI35 clubs. I would buy this set for myself. They even chipped in 2 sleeves of balls for each rental. The course has tons of trees and is what you would expect from a Lake Tahoe course. I do have to give a shout out to the employees. They provided excellent service. I had forgot my wallet and it took me some time to get all the right stuff together to pay for things and they were completely patient and helpful throughout the whole process.
The only knock on the course is some of the greens on the back 9 are not your typical greens. They might have a hard time growing the grass in all the shade. So, it's a different type of grass that is like putting on a synthetic green. It's not big deal. You will love playing this course regardless.
Course Shape
We love this course and I know the winter must have been rough but the majority of greens were in bad shape, fuzzy grass, bare spots and very bumpy.
I play from the red tees and there wasn’t a level t box that I can remember. Unfortunate conditions but we love the course.
Nice course
Although I couldn't hit em straight, the course was really nice. A couple of greens that are still recovering from winter freeze, other than that, course layout, the beauty of the valley and hills, it was a great course.
Beautiful layout.
Only problem was there were 4 young kids that snuck in on the 16th hole in front of us delaying our great pace holding up 3 groups on those last 3 holes. We had a 4 some that paid over $500.00 that came from far away to deal with this. We will speak with their upper management on this situation so future “paying” golfers don’t have to go through this delays!
Greens were in poor shape
$137 we paid to play here not including range balls
(Which should be complementary ) . Course layout has always been good, staff as well, greens were in poor condition. Wish I would have known before booking would have played elsewhere
Northstar
Great course. We always here when in tahoe. We plan to play next month when we return.
Disappointed
This course has such a fun layout. It’s hard to understand why it is in such poor condition. But it appears to be to save money in course maintenance. Improve the course and you would get more play. In fact, Northstar could become a golfing destination for people. As it is now, it is a major disappointment.
