Slow Sunday
Every time I've played out here on a weekend it's been so slow. I think our round took about 5 hours, and that's only because a lot of people in front of us quit after the turn because it was so slow.
Excellent value! Good but not great conditions.
I played on a weekday morning with my dad. We got a tee time early for under $25 on golfnow. That was an absolute steal. The course is well maintained with some bare or boggy spots, but overall green in spite of the drought.
Check in staff was friendly. I did not eat in the restaurant. The practice green was well maintained and encouraged chipping.
Overall, incredible value. Scenery is excellent. Conditions not pristine, but really good.
Great value and decent greens
Hard to beat the value. Got the round with a cart, breakfast, and lunch included which seems unheard of in the bay. Course was really wet and you won't have too many flat lies to hit from. Thought the greens were on decent shape and rolled just fine. Tee off early if you want to play the round at a decent pace. They stack tee times only 8 mins apart.
S L O W ... and 40 minute late start ...
Tee times bunched too close let to 40 minute delay in afternoon starting time and backed up on most holes through 15. Trying to cram more players (and $) in took much of the fun out of a fine afternoon. The delayed start was more bothersome than the slow play, but it was a 6 hour round... Course in fine shape despite the drought and practice facility is excellent. Bunkers could use some fresh, un-compacted sand.
Tilden Park is a beautuful setting
The course, considering the drought, is in very good condition, but as always the greens are frustratingly difficult to read with deceiving contours.
Tilden Park Golf
Course was looking good! The staff has done a nice job of weathering the drought. Greens are in decent shape and the fairways were green and played nicely. It's a busy course and pace of play lagged a bit at times. Not bad overall though, especially for the price!
Early Morning goodness
Grabbed a Hot Deal tee time (5:55 am) for only $16 (plus the ever-growing fee) and got incredible weather. It was warm and clear and with virtually no one in front of me, I was able to sail through in just over 3 hours.
The tee boxes were a little beat up but the fairways were in good shape. The layout is not long but fun and challenging over beautiful terrain. The greens are the best feature of Tilden; in good shape with a variety of slopes and tiers.
I had a veggie breakfast burrito at the turn which was an incredible compliment to a beautiful morning. The snack bar/restaurant at the turn provides good food and quality service, although the phone to order on 9 tee is often broken.
All in all, Tilden Park is a fun round, especially if you can avoid the crowds by playing ultra-early or in the twilight.
Nice course
I always love playing this golf course. They had a good deal that day we got breakfast lunch and golf for 40 bucks
Love this course
My home course and favorite course, love playing this bad boy. Honestly the only issue is that the course gets so crowded that I only like playing very early AM rounds or twilight.
Great fairways, greens
Beautiful surroundings, really nice greens. Nice practice facility. Great course for the $$.
Foggin A
Showed up a 1/2 hr befor tee time. And didn't tee off till 45 mins after tee time due to fog delay that they never recovered from. No cart lady.
Foggin A.
Beautiful course with history
I got to play this historic course on a beautiful day in the afternoon. The course is very hilly, several shots are blind and most of the fairways are sloped requiring good aim toward the far edges of the fairway in order to allow enough room for your ball to roll out. The tee boxes are fair and in good shape. The greens are in excellent shape, however they have a lot of slope on them and on several occasions I thought there should have been a clowns mouth or windmill for that kind of unusual roll. They were cut well so once you got the understanding of the false fronts and extreme undulations it enabled planning to avoid pitfalls. We played 25 holes before dark and met two groups of partners. Speed of play for a Monday was very slow, so don't go if you only have 4 hours. Overall I really enjoyed the course and the people I met, and would definitely go back again time permitting.
Beats the heat.
Love this course, get you play all your wedges. Greens are tough! Love the lay out. Great place to beat the heat of the east bay.
I'll be going back!
Meatless food selections
It would be nice if they offered a meatless lunch selection, at least one
Slowest Round Ever
Poor course management. Way too many people out there at one time. Took over six hours to play 18. Too expensive if you're going to cram that many ppl in.
Don't golf there on weekends
Don't golf there on the weekend. Played it on Saturday. Had a 12:33 tee time finally teed off at 1:00. Finished the front 9 at 4:15. Never experienced that before. Played there on a week day and it was slow but nothing like that. Better management and not over booking could fix that and it's not a bad course.
Great value
Great value for the price. Well maintained and beautiful greens
tee-up is always behind schedule
Played here a couple of times but will not any more.
I made my reservation each time, but had to wait for more than 20 minutes after the reserved tee-up time. My last play was on Sunday, but waited also on a weekday.
The staffs seemed to take it for granted because they did not do anything about that, which made me disappointed.
One of the slowest courses around
It's common knowledge that Tilden Park has a reputation for slow play and with that in mind my group booked a tee time at the crack of dawn on a Sunday, hoping to play a very fast round. It was EARLY - the grill wasn't even open yet and there were only a couple of groups ahead of us on the course. The course was a little rough with the drought and all. We were really looking forward to playing.
The biggest problem was that unfortunately we were stuck behind a group that was incredibly slow. The group ahead of them was long gone. They showed no regard for golf etiquette and were so wayward with their tee shots that the whole course was held up. These guys were hitting two shots per person off the tee, often all 4 completely missed the fairway, and they had no awareness and/or no consideration for the people behind them. On the 18th fairway it was like the wild west with wayward shots from both the 13 and 14th tees flying onto our fairway. The ball owners drove right out in front of us without asking, waiting until we were done with our shots, or apologizing. I understand that people want to have fun with their buddies on the weekend and people have different skill levels, but to advertise fast play during early tee times and then have NO MARSHAL on the course during our entire round to enforce pace of play (or even basic etiquette), there's no excuse for that. It's the main reason why I am writing my first review. I'm shocked that this happened to us with a crack of dawn tee time and that there was no marshal to be seen our entire round. I'm disappointed that this is an endemic issue at Tilden. My friends have had a round where 3 holes took an hour and a half to play... that's how slow Tilden can be.
Please Tilden Park mgmt., the course is in a beautiful setting but the slow play problem needs to be fixed. You can enforce a reasonable pace of play, not send out 5-somes and not send groups out so close together. To do otherwise just ruins it for everyone.
Great but slow.
The golf course is one of my wife and my favorites. Its just a beautiful place to play. It is also a real good challenge.
The problem is golfing here on weekends takes 5 hours or longer. We were reminded of this on Saturday when it took 5 hours and 15. As a result, we will not plat Tilden on the weekends any more. We will seek to play on the week days only.
