Foggin A
Showed up a 1/2 hr befor tee time. And didn't tee off till 45 mins after tee time due to fog delay that they never recovered from. No cart lady.
Foggin A.
Beautiful course with history
I got to play this historic course on a beautiful day in the afternoon. The course is very hilly, several shots are blind and most of the fairways are sloped requiring good aim toward the far edges of the fairway in order to allow enough room for your ball to roll out. The tee boxes are fair and in good shape. The greens are in excellent shape, however they have a lot of slope on them and on several occasions I thought there should have been a clowns mouth or windmill for that kind of unusual roll. They were cut well so once you got the understanding of the false fronts and extreme undulations it enabled planning to avoid pitfalls. We played 25 holes before dark and met two groups of partners. Speed of play for a Monday was very slow, so don't go if you only have 4 hours. Overall I really enjoyed the course and the people I met, and would definitely go back again time permitting.
Beats the heat.
Love this course, get you play all your wedges. Greens are tough! Love the lay out. Great place to beat the heat of the east bay.
I'll be going back!
Meatless food selections
It would be nice if they offered a meatless lunch selection, at least one
Slowest Round Ever
Poor course management. Way too many people out there at one time. Took over six hours to play 18. Too expensive if you're going to cram that many ppl in.
Don't golf there on weekends
Don't golf there on the weekend. Played it on Saturday. Had a 12:33 tee time finally teed off at 1:00. Finished the front 9 at 4:15. Never experienced that before. Played there on a week day and it was slow but nothing like that. Better management and not over booking could fix that and it's not a bad course.
Great value
Great value for the price. Well maintained and beautiful greens
tee-up is always behind schedule
Played here a couple of times but will not any more.
I made my reservation each time, but had to wait for more than 20 minutes after the reserved tee-up time. My last play was on Sunday, but waited also on a weekday.
The staffs seemed to take it for granted because they did not do anything about that, which made me disappointed.
One of the slowest courses around
It's common knowledge that Tilden Park has a reputation for slow play and with that in mind my group booked a tee time at the crack of dawn on a Sunday, hoping to play a very fast round. It was EARLY - the grill wasn't even open yet and there were only a couple of groups ahead of us on the course. The course was a little rough with the drought and all. We were really looking forward to playing.
The biggest problem was that unfortunately we were stuck behind a group that was incredibly slow. The group ahead of them was long gone. They showed no regard for golf etiquette and were so wayward with their tee shots that the whole course was held up. These guys were hitting two shots per person off the tee, often all 4 completely missed the fairway, and they had no awareness and/or no consideration for the people behind them. On the 18th fairway it was like the wild west with wayward shots from both the 13 and 14th tees flying onto our fairway. The ball owners drove right out in front of us without asking, waiting until we were done with our shots, or apologizing. I understand that people want to have fun with their buddies on the weekend and people have different skill levels, but to advertise fast play during early tee times and then have NO MARSHAL on the course during our entire round to enforce pace of play (or even basic etiquette), there's no excuse for that. It's the main reason why I am writing my first review. I'm shocked that this happened to us with a crack of dawn tee time and that there was no marshal to be seen our entire round. I'm disappointed that this is an endemic issue at Tilden. My friends have had a round where 3 holes took an hour and a half to play... that's how slow Tilden can be.
Please Tilden Park mgmt., the course is in a beautiful setting but the slow play problem needs to be fixed. You can enforce a reasonable pace of play, not send out 5-somes and not send groups out so close together. To do otherwise just ruins it for everyone.
Great but slow.
The golf course is one of my wife and my favorites. Its just a beautiful place to play. It is also a real good challenge.
The problem is golfing here on weekends takes 5 hours or longer. We were reminded of this on Saturday when it took 5 hours and 15. As a result, we will not plat Tilden on the weekends any more. We will seek to play on the week days only.
Best Bang For Buck In East Bay
Played Tilden Park recently for the first time in a few years having played it 100's of times prior. Always a great course when greens are good. They are great right now, and speed is fun to judge. Good Luck avoiding three putts! Really rewarding when you putt well there. Plays as difficult as any golf course at this time, if you like a challenge of good greens. Not the same old easy Tilden Park when the greens are like this. Great pro shop staff and nice bar/cafe too.
Awesome Round
Value for my money was awesome, will definitely be back.
Bang for your Buck
Weather was cold, foggy, but no wind. Just what my buddy and I were looking for as we are going to Monterey soon to play golf. Course was in great shape and the greens were true but tricky. Booked on Golf Now for$35 but when we arrived were surpised to receive a food voucher for both breakfeast and lunch with two beers. Can't beat that. Great experence and will be back.
great old course feel
The course was in very good condition. It's hard to get a flat lie very often, definitely a challenge. Greens were fast, but it is definitely a course to try. Great setting in the Berkeley Hills.
playing great
Tilden Park is playing great. Greens are in fantastic shape. The grass has recently been manicured, AND the course isn't saturated with water! I suggest you get a round in!
Nice hilly course, will play agian
Course was in great shape.... considering
no rain this year. The greens are tricky.. very
fast downhill... hammer it uphill. Some greens have the crowns... tuff to get close. Some narrow tee shots,
the greens hold ... I like the course as you use ALL
your clubs... and you have to think where best
to hit ball for flag position.
need a course martial go to Tilden
We arrived at the ninth hole tee box approx 2 3/4 hours after starting we skippd the nineth hole for a beer and a jump start ahead of the group of four in front of us. During that entire ordeal not once did we see a martial. Several other groups jumped ahead as well , very frustrated. We completed the back nine in about 2 hrs. We stopped at the pro shop and registered our complaint and the guy behind the desk stated "well that is Tilden.". What a sales pitch.
poor conditions , friendly staff
Was not notified of end or arrated greens, still had sand and grass was long. Fairway grass was long , like playing out of short rough , . Tee box grass was very long rough conditions.
Pace of play very slow no Marshall monitoring it .
Cool Course
Staff is great -
Course Layout is interesting (lots of elevation changes)
The only issue I had was that the greens were punched the week we played and I always feel like there should be at least a courtesy, "Hey, we punched our greens this week", especially if you're playing on a weekend. This is my only chance to play this month and the greens were clearly still sandy, rough, and long. Pace of play was an issue too. 5hrs 10 min for a round is not necessary. Other than that, it's a nice university course and again, the staff was cool.
