Home sweet home
Best bang for your buck! Great, challenging course with smooth greens.
Played in the afternoon and had zero issues with pace. No place like home!
Nice greens
The course is in good condition right now. However, as always, they tend to book too many tee times causing a slow pace of play.
course condition is good
Please watch out NO. 17 hole. Since the fairway is firmed, driver must be aimed to right side of fairway..
San Dimas Canyon
Walked the Blues (6400/71.5/125) with RGM2525, Rob & David. The weather was really nice, sunny, breezy and in the 70's. The POP was not, slightly over 5H on a very busy weekday afternoon.
First time here, more positives than negatives overall. Five par 5's & five par 3's, which I like. Several of the par 5's are shorter & scoreable. Several of the par 3's are good tests and their distances are nicely spaced so you are hitting different clubs throughout. No frills, old school layout that has some fun holes. #16 is probably their signature hole, an excellent par 3 over water from an elevated tee.
The tees were okay, good coverage but not lush, mowed close. Not too many were chewed up and most were fairly level.
The fairways were mowed close and more thin than lush but had good coverage.
The "rough" was almost better to play out of than the fairway. Mowed very close, maybe 1", with good coverage, not penal at all.
The sand traps were decent. Nice fine sand.
The greens were medium speed but bumpy, still showing the effects of aeration 3+ weeks ago. They held approach shots well.
Hilly course, but still a nice course to walk, most tees were close to the last green. No drink cart, but did see ambassadors out patrolling several times. They were running a special that included breakfast and lunch, so the turn was packed with people ordering lunch, which slowed things down even more. Not an overly taxing layout, fun course that doesn't require alot of forced carries and good for players of all skill levels. Recommended = Yes.
Cancelled
Upon arriving to the course, I learned that there was a kids tournament in progress. I think that is why the green fee's were so cheap. They told me my tee time would be delayed about a half an hour. We stood and waited for a while and the one group on the first tee didn't move for 15 minutes. I understand it was slow because it was a kids tournament but it would have been nice to know that before I booked the tee time. They did cancel my tee time at the course and I wasn't charged for it but I was still charged for booking it.
Midday golf experience
The starts were pleasant and the ground staff nice but the kitchen counter personnel were not nice, rude would be the right description. Pace of play when we got to the back side was terrible not a Marshall in sight could have been pleasant but many group lagging behind. I really do like this course its just pace of play is consistently slow on the back side.
Great Sunday
The course was in great condition and the staff was beyond friendly. San dimas is a course I would play daily.
Never Again!!!!
Tried playing here in late December, but walked off the course after the 14th hole. 10:05am tee time, and it took 5 hours and 15 minutes to 14 holes. This is what you get with American Golf anymore. I won't play any of their courses. Its all about cramming as many people out there as possible. San Dims is a nice track, but it takes too darn long to play here anymore.
Never again
Every time I play here I keep hoping beyond hope that my experience will be different but it never is because it really is a fun layout with great greens. BUT that's where the good stuff ends. The pace of play kills any enjoyment that could be had. They were 45 minutes behind when we got there and we were 2 deep on every tee box (sometimes 3) all day long. And this is normal. It would have been a 6 hour round but we never even finished because of darkness. They overbook like crazy and allow 5-somesomes. Need I say more. We played here because my son was home from college and used to play a lot of his high school golf here so he wanted to revisit old memories. He was hugely disappointed. So, I can safely say I am done ever playing here again. There are to many other good courses out there that care about your overall experience. This one doesn't
Pace of play
The staff was excellent. It appears there was overbooking of Tee times. A 30 minute delayed start with a very slow pace took over 3 hours to complete nine holes of an 18 hole game.
Nice staff
I will say the reception is the best. She assign me to play second and no waiting.
I never see the staff is so nice to think about play's need.
Greens were tough and very fast
Loved the greens, rolled well and were extremely fast, a couple of the pin placements were a little to tough for the speed of the greens, But i still loved them. The course had some interesting holes. The traps were in great shape. They had a tournament earlier in the day that was a little larger than expected and were very slow, had a tee tine for 12:22, didn't tee off till 12:40. The staff were nice, and were apologetic for the delay. They gave us range balls to warm up. Even with the delay enjoyed the day and the course.
Average public course
Not recommended if you have been going to private courses (including the ones that used to be private)
This course allows five somes. Prepare for the frustration!
I don't know why they still allow playing five somes there. Nine out of ten times end up we have to wait, wait and end up lost our phases and fun of playing golf there. Some of my friends already decide from now on no matter what kind of good deals they post in this course, they are going to avoid because it will end up standing and waiting under the sun and swearing and cursing again and again. Yesterday out of four somes in my group, two left after finish nine holes because of this situation.
Fairway
I think if we where not in a water shorted the fairway would have been better.
Dry fairways, lush greens
I give 4 stars for the conditions because the fairways are dry. the rough is non existent, but the greens are very nice and fast. Some may be faster than others, but they are generally fast. Average pace of play because on beautiful days it is crowded. Today it was over 100 degrees so there was nobody out there. Pro shop staff has always been friendly. Never have tried the food. Driving Range is just 7 or 8 stalls with a giant net. Putting green is nice though. Very fun course, some holes require absolute accuracy, others let you grip it and rip it. Very tough collection of par 3's so birdie the par 5's and #2. Do not land your chip shots or pitch shots on the fringe unless you want them to stop hard. The fringes are very soft and tricky to gauge. Oh yeah there were five deer across the tee box on #10 so that was cool. There are a few gimmicky holes that require you to hit over fountains, trees, etc. But, the signature # 16 is awesome, watch the wind and just club up.
Very fun course
First off the staff is very friendly and even thou the course is a little burnt out it still is in good condition. Pace was great 3:20 for 18. I will definitely come back.
Fun and tough
Not the best course for a novice as there are quite a few tricky shots to make. Fairways are pretty well kept even in the crazy drought and greens play about medium speed dispite some unexpected whooptie do's. Overall, great course to play but keep it in the fairway if you can!
Best Conditions in 20 years!
The fairways were lush and plentiful.
The greens were in the best shape in more than 40 years.
The starter was nice and personable. The course was busy but fast. We were the first ones out but let a really fast 2 some ahead.
The 10th tee box had a female deer and it's fawn. Really a cute sight. The only other place you get that is Eagle Glen. We played in about 3 hours. We played really well and since the conditions were pristine that really helped. The special in the morning was 32.02. Really a fun and nice golf course!
Slow Pace - Good Conditions
Played 6/27/2015. Conditions were great even considering the drought in California. A few areas of dead grass here and there on the fairways. Greens were in excellent shape. Our round was quite slow - about 5 hours, mainly due to a lolly gagging foursome in front of us. Overall it was a great outing.
