Picture perfect day at Spanos Photo submitted by Tem23powtfgj on 07/06/2013
A beautiful course.
Wish the pace of the game could be a little faster. Need more marshals to monitor the pace.
Picture perfect day
We were fortunate to have visited Spanos on a day it was forecast to be 110 degrees, i believe it peaked at 105. California was under state of emergency for extreme heat, so the golf course was ours. The strangest thing occurred, at about 5:00 pm when it should be the hottest part of the summer day, the temperature cooled without the accompaniment of the Delta Breeze.
So we had a day at Spanos, a course in pristine condition with weather conditions rare for that time of year. If you could paint a picture of a perfect day at Spanos, that would be the canvas.
Wonderful staff
Keep up the good work, especially in the snack bar.
My favourite in the area
The course is great. I love the layout with the water and waste areas. The greens have good speed yet are receptive to the pinseekers. It is a oasis in the valley. Great range and practice green.
well maintained
This is a very well maintained. Golf course and tough to play at no time are you hitting in to any body no matter. How bad your shot and at no time are you getting hit in to no matter how bad there. Shot and every hole seem long i really enjoy playing here l should apologize for beating up There golf course Cause i am just a hacker
Nice Sacramento Delta course. WIndy and challenging
This is a good course for the value. While it is windy, that is part of its allure. The fairways are in good, but not great shape. Greens were nice although the golfers need to pay more attention to fixing ball marks, etc.
Enjoy playing there.
The Best Greens in the valley.
This course is so well manicured, every detail from greens to fairways to the parking lot is very well maintained. Makes you feel like your playing at a private country club.
the greens were difficult to read, but the wind made the course challenging.
the greens are difficult to read an the area is windy.
Tough and Windy
This is a tough course in the wind, especially the back nine.
Enjoyed playing this course again. This was only my third time.
Staff on the course are all very nice and clubhouse is great.
Always a pleasure to play, BUT
Greens had aerification punch marks throughout, where was the course alert on Golfnow? Many golfers drive to play this course, me from Sacramento and would like to know before I book the course has been punched! Otherwise the fairways are nice, traps are wet and compacted, winds were 40mph, so ok day.
Really nice with relaxing feel, links style
Im an average golfer and found the course really cool. Water is in play on many holes but a better player can easily navigate them with ease. Def recommend this course to all skill levels. Just check the wind before you go or you'll have a tiger by the tail.
Well bunkered course
This course sits next to the San Joaquin Delta and the winds often pick up here in the afternoons. It was quite windy when we played which definitely adds to the challenge of this course. It is very well bunkered and you can pay a penalty for not avoiding the bunkers.
It has greens that are fairly quick if you are above the hole and it can be easy to have downhill putts slide by 5-6 ft. Water comes into play on several holes-with the water and bunkers and quick greens it is a challenging but very fun course to play. When we played they were aerating the front nine -so we played the back nine twice and the rate was discounted $10.
In great shape!
Fairways and greens are in great shape. Best condition in years.
This course is open and can see where hitting the ball.
Liked the course because it was open. The care of the holes was good. Fairways were nice. The day was somewhat windy but didn't really mind.
Had a light dinner after the round and the food was good.
This is a championship course requiring relative long accurate drives to reach GIR.
This is the most challenging course that I have played. I played from the tips measuring over 7100 yards and mostly into a 15 mph wind. Most of the fairways were mowed very narrow followed by a first cut of rough and then a brutal second cut of rough almost making it impossible to advance the ball other than a very short distance. It was set up just like a PGA tour event and I wish more courses were set up the same way. I have two suggestions. First, more drinking water on the course. Second, they need to stock Arnold Palmers.
Love the greens
The staff is super friendly and I enjoy the challenge of the course!
Pace of play too slow!
This course allows 5somes during weekend mornings, very disappointing!
"It's all about the greens"
Great course with a pay attention lay-out and oh those greens lightning fast but very true....
Nice outting
Course was in good condition. Transaction was flawless with golf now.com. The staff in pros shop was less than friendly and acted bothered that we were there to golf thru Internet reservation. Afternoon winds were quite strong and made driving some of the narrow fairways difficult.
Good Value for the weekend golfer
This is not a difficult course, even from the Championship tees. Tee boxes are set up nicely and fairways are terrific. Rough was cut short enough that you can find your ball but you still have to muscle it out. Sand bunkers were raked but the sand was pretty hard. Greens were fast and in decent condition.
