Avalon
one par 3 (7th hole) was being redone. looks great, will open up in about a month. temp green was pretty bad.
Dog Track
I can not believe the condition of this course. I once rated this course in the top 5 in the entire area. Now I refuse to go back there.
Enjoyed the day.
A good value for a upscale challenging course. The staff was helpful and friendly.
No grass
I love the layout of this golf course. The greens were in pretty good shape. They were really fast which I liked. The fairways and tee boxes however were a different story. Due to the fact that they were Bermuda, there was no grass at all to hit off of. Would have been a great value if the grass had been grown out a little bit. The money we paid for the conditions just may have been a little high
Great golf course
The golf course is a fun and challenging course a couple of the greens had some damage to them but overall it was nice
I remember it when....
I don't know what's going on at Avalon. They used to be a "premier" course. These days they seem to be directing their attention to beautification instead of the things golfers care about - like SAND in the bunkers, grass surrounding the greens, cart paths without holes...the list goes on. Thank goodness the greens are still in good shape and it IS a pretty course with some challenging holes. I do think they could spend a little more time and money on the grounds, though.
fun layout
Grass is still dormant, so turf condition will improve. Even when in fairway, the ball is on a bare lie. There's not much turf at this time. The bunkers need some serious attention. We couldn't believe the amount of golf ball to baseball sized rocks in the bunkers.
Wow that was disappointing
Wow! is a word I would use to describe my experience at Avalon on Sunday 4-13-14.
The practice tee for visitors is like visiting the moon. Nothing but sand, I thought about setting up a volley ball net to see if my group wanted to play a quick game of beach volleyball. No takers though. The members practice area looked OK but we were told that only members could practice there. Wow!
The fairways are the worst I've ever seen since I've been playing Avalon-even for this time of the year, sparse hard, unacceptable-Wow! I was told the greens were punched some 5 weeks ago, slow, very sparse in places, very bumpy-Plinko anyone? Consider enforcing automatic 2 put rule. If you confidence is a little shaky on the putting greens, you'll need to see a shrink after putting those greens-Wow!
Bunkers-terribly maintained, lots of rocks, not good-Wow!
Overall, very disappointed. Though not my favorite course in ET, one that's convenient and has a decent layout. Course is in need of some serious maintenance and soon. No way they can charge premium greens fees for a course in this condition. Too many alternatives in much better shape.
In a word...Wow!
Poor shape
Greens rolled well but fairways are atrocious. Worst shape I have ever seen this course in. Talked to a member who stated the membership has even been complaining about condition of the fairways. This was once my favorite course in the area and a good value for the layout and challenge.
Solid
Ready to punch.... Course is dry and windburned now but will soon be great
Great course
I have played this course many times, very challenging and a great place to play
Great value
Not worth full course price in my opinion. Played 9 for $20 with cart. It's a nice course in the summer. $45 < is too high for 18 .
I use to live at Reynolds Plantation. Rather play 9 at the landing or great waters for $45 than 18 for same price at Avalon.
Goat farm!
Used to be a member here but now, what a joke! Buddy drove 30 miles to play and highly disappointed. Dead greens every other hole, no grass and cracked balls on range, and more rocks than sand in the bunkers! Such a shame! Used to be on of the premier courses in the greater Knoxville area!
Great Course
Great course, great layout, great conditions for the weather we have had the last 3 weeks. Greens were solid and fast, fairways were cut short. Great Febraury golf!
Winter rules apply...
Typically a nice track. Conditions were a bit harsh. Soggy fairways and very slick greens. Had a couple putts roll off green which was not fun. Better play during summer conditions
A very cold day on a good course
First of all it was 37* out,but we had drove over a hour so we played anyway. We play all winter every year so cold was not a huge factor. Course was all in good shape except for the greens, they had several bare spots and several places were just sand, looked like they didn't do a fall aerification and winter golf there will suffer because of it. Rest of the course was ok though. I wanna go back and see it in the summer, and probably will.
Awesome Course
Great Place .. Staff and course excellent!! A good challenging course with awesome views
cold but amazing!
It's fun and challenging....it's 8 of 10!!!!
I birdied the first only. Was a great day
2nd time playing.Great course.
Very nice and well maintained course. This is the second time I have played.
The only issue I have had was on my second visit. The tee times were running behind and every hole I had to wait . Everyone was stacked on top of each other. Not good course management.
Great course, and a great deal.
Played on a Saturday in November, paired with 3 other guys. The bermuda fairways have gone dormant, but the greens were great...green, fast and absolutely perfect.
This was a great golf course...excellent routing, a variety of uphill, downhill and flat holes, nice bunkering, and lots of pretty views. the course is routed through an upscale neighborhood, but the fairways are pretty wide, and the houses a pulled pretty far back so you don't feel like you are driving down a narrow hallway. I never felt that if I hit is just a little crooked that I would go O.B. There was enough room. There was water on a few holes, but the main challenge is the hills and the VERY fast greens. There are places that if you get above the hole or hole high on a slope that is is difficult to keep a putt anywhere near the hole....you need to manage your game and try to stay below the hole.
There is a fair driving range and a decent snack bar.
My Golfnow deal of $25 was an incredible bargain.
