Bristow Manor Golf Club

Short course, using lots of forced carries and greens isolated by thick rough to make it challenging. Old school layout.

A long but fun course. Enjoyed that it forces you to think about different club selections at the tee. Only negative is that pace of play is horrible. Average 5 hour round.

Need to improve staffs training on customers safety and how to handle customers concerns appropriately. Very disappointed....Manager and all their staffs. I found they didn't care of any concerns. They will loose many businesses, will share my bad experience with all my colleagues. They will not use this course anymore...

The course was extremely slow and cart paths only for a 10am on a Friday. Took us more than 5 hours to play on a Friday morning. I couldn’t finish the round and had to leave a few holes early. It hadn’t rained in a few days so ground crew were concerned about the stress on the fairways.

Playing Groups argued about who was responsible for slow pace. Almost saw a fight on the course. 3 groups on holes frequently; teeing off, fairway, on green.

Greens were great. Tee boxes need some help.

Staff were nice except for Starter.

I play hear often and will keep coming back because the conditions are always very good and the rates are reasonable. Every time I post a review I mention the same couple of ongoing issues. 1. Many of the bunkers don't have sand but are filled with brown dirt (and some rocks). My friends and I play these as "ground that should be repaired". 2. There are a couple of Gold tee boxes that need to be leveled off. They are crowned. #3 and #13 specifically. Despite this, it is still a NOVA favorite.

I want to like this course so much, and I'm writing this review with the hope that it can spark some change. The practice green, range, and chipping area are fantastic and the clubhouse is great. The course condition each time I have played has been exceptional. The back nine is one of my favorite 9s in golf and you really feel like you are back there by yourself. The layout of this course however, needs some work. Literally every par 5 does not allow you the opportunity to pull out driver. This is fine for 1 or 2 holes, where you have to play a smart tee shot, but every par 5 you have to hit an iron or short wood off the tee? 3 of the 4 the course shape and a creek prevents the long stick, but hole 12 has no natural hazard that prevents extending the fairway, they just decided to keep rough and split the fairway and it makes 0 sense to be shaped this way. Again, great course otherwise, but it feels like mini golf on their par 5s and detracts from the enjoyment of the course significantly.

Exactly like the title says, this is a tough course. If you play this course multiple times you'll definitely get better at your overall game. Today was cart path only so that made it a little tougher but the course itself is just beautiful. Highly recommend

It’s been extremely dry here in va, but the course is in better than good condition. Greens are nearly perfect. Overall very satisfied.

The course had a nice layout! The fairways were in great shape, little to no browning. The hazards were fair, with water on many holes, bunkers had a very good amount of sand, and the OB/Lateral Hazards were marked well. The greens were a bit slow for my liking, but as the day got warmer they got a little quicker.

My only criticism was the grounds keepers. Many were doing their job, but some were oblivious to the patrons and the fact that they were on an active golf course. A few of the fairway mowers parked in the fairway and chatted while we waited on the tee box for them to move (about 3-minutes before we just decided to hit and yell fore if needed). On a subsequent hole another grounds keeper drove over my ball in the fairway, once again oblivious. Other than these two incidents, the staff was great.

*I forgot to mention our cart died after 9-holes and had to call for a replacement in the middle of #10, but that isn't anyone's fault as there is no battery charge status lights in the cart.

One of the best courses in the area for the price. The proshop staff are always nice and helpful defeating the angry proshop guy stereotypes. Only negative with the course is maintenance crew give zero regards to people playing. I know they are working so have no issues with that, but typically at every other course will move to the side when your teeing off or stop mowing when your around the greens. Here they don't do that and will stare you in your eyes then will keep going. Had 3 of them scream in my buddies back swing putting yesterday. Once again completely understand they have to do what they need to do, but is the only course I've been to where have no courtesy to people playing.

Play Bristow Manor several times each season. Today the greens were the best I have ever seen them. Course is in really good shape. Pace of play wasn't bad today. Always a fun challenge at Bristow Manor.

The course is long and is a good test of golf. It is very well maintained.

Overall course in good shape and staff very friendly only issue were bunkers in terrible condition majority have little to no sand and unplayable. That being said a good time was had by all and I definitely will play again

This was my second time playing Bristow Manor and the course was in really great shape with the exception of the bunkers (more on that later). Greens were rolling extremely true, and fairways were fluffy. The rough is fairly long and extremely penal - the zoysia grass really grabs the club head so hitting fairways is a must.

The bunkers (with the exception of the 9th hole) were on par with some of the worst munis I have played. Thick, clay like mud, very little “sand” in the bunkers and so getting the ball onto the green was nearly impossible as the mud just grabbed the club with a normal splash shot. Sand was pristine in the 9th hole green side bunkers, but at this price all of the bunkers should be like that.

Greens were a bit of an odd mix of spongy but also very unreceptive. Any greenside shot refused to spin and even short iron/wedge approaches were rolling out 10-15ft regardless of trajectory or spin.

Pace wasn’t great - we were stuck behind a slow 2 ball and another very slow four ball. As a two ball we logged 4hrs which is pretty brutal for mid- week.

It’s an interesting course, and a great test of golf, but I find the constant target golf off the tee a bit tiresome from a hole design perspective. It’s fun for a few holes, but there are other more interesting designs I would rather return to (Stonewall, Pohick Bay, UMD).

Please fix the bunker situation!
