Lionhead Golf and Country Club - Masters
About
The Masters Course at Lionhead Golf & Country Club is ideal for golfers who don't feel they are prepared to take on the demanding Legends Course at the club, which has been ranked as one of the toughest courses in North America. The Masters layout is similar to golf courses in Florida, with unique bunkers and scenic ponds that meld perfectly with the rolling hills and wetlands that dot the scenic landscape. Its more traditional layout is considered the kinder and gentler of the two golf courses at Lionhead Golf & Country Club, but there are still a fair amount of challenges. The Masters course requires several long carries over water, particularly on the 16th. This infamous par 5 features a green surrounded by water.

bumpy greens
For an elite golf course I found the greens in poor condition. Also thought the sand bunkers could of used more sand. Very hard for green side bunkers.
Unfortunately winter got the better of this course
This was my 4th round of the season and have to say the course conditions where the poorest I've seen so far. Putting greens were pretty rough and we found that even the fairways were in bad shape. Unfortunately winter got the better of this course. For the money, I believe there are better options available
last minute changes
Upon arriving at Lionhead we were notified that we were to play the Legends 18 and not the Masters 18 as there was topdressing scheduled for the greens on the Masters 18. Obviously this was the case for all golfers that morning. This resulted in a later tee off time than we had booked and made for a slower round as many 4somes were tightly packed playing the one course instead of both. We had booked the Masters course because it is a beautiful course that we have rarely played. We were VERY DISAPPOINTED to have not been notified earlier of this change and would have preferred to reschedule our round. Poor decision on Managements behalf as I am sure it was not a last minute decision to shut down 18 holes for maintenance. I cannot afford expensive rounds very often and this was one of my few rounds at a "special" course.
Masters & Legends are both great
Course was in great condition, but greens are suffering from winter kill.
pricing
I chose the course because I liked the posted rate
the add-ons were 20%
no one likes surprises
a lot of items, like airline fares have to post gross rates
I think your customers would be most appreciative of this
Felt cheated
It amazes me how these golf courses charge full price for courses that are in terrible shape. I realize and apprieciate the bad winter we had but why are they still charging full price? At the very least they should be offering some compensation.
A great Test
Great layout - greens are coming through the winter kill. Great weather - an enjoyable day.
Nice course BUT.......
So. Let me start by saying I like the Masters course at this club. I typically book with Golf Now when playing here as the deals are great. I would start of by saying that if you were paying the standard green fee of 155.00 a round you would be deeply disappointed.
- 7 of the greens are in terrible shape
- 7 are in decent shape
-4 are in great shape
I estimate around 5 holes had sections that was like hitting off concrete
So to summarize, If I had to cough up 155.00 for a round I would be angered. I did not, I paid 70 and was slightly disappointed. The facility is fantastic and I will give the staff a great review as they deserve but I go there for golf and the course was not a 155.00 course in the current condition.
Very tough course
Really makes you think on some holes, greens are still recovering from the rough winter
Course is in bad condition
I would have thought that if the course was in bad shape, either they close off certain holes and greens and/or provide discounts. Disappointed.
ruff greens
The day was perfect...The price was cheap owing to the greens that had winter kill on them...Ruff to putt..Overall the price expressed the conditions of the greens and some fairways!!!
Lionhead Masters
I played here many times before ... But the conditions right now are terrible ... Honestly so disappointed .... I don't recommend this course.
Sill not recovered from Winter
It appears that long winter has really taken its toll on this course. Number of trees were down but those are cleaned up and taken away from the course. The course itself is really not ready for play. There are sons of completely bold spots in fairway, the greens are not green at all and for the price of that course I felt that it's way over priced based on current conditions. I played here many times before and this is worse I have seen this course.
Good staff, good layout, mediocre value
Staff was friendly. Marshalls were considerate and kept play going by focusing on bottleneck areas and helping people know when it was safe to hit into blind landing areas.
The green fee wouldn't be bad on its own, but stuff like a 9 dollar charge for a warm_up bucket of balls and extra cart fees are a bit much.
Overpriced but nice course
The round was a bit on the long side at 5 hours but that seems to be normal for this course. Greens were not great but for the winter damage most courses got this year it was playable. I would never pay more than $75 to play and ride this course. Regualar green fee price is too high for what you get. Beer and food is very expensive. The island green can kill your score!
Lionhead masters
Winter hurt this course but it usually is in great shape greens not the greatest expected better but was not overly disappointed (rough winter)
Masters Lionhead
Course was in average condition @ best, many portions of the greens were still brown and bare from the winter.
The pace of play as a twosome was exactly 4 hours which was very good; however, the number of course maintenance and workers all over the course was off putting and distracting. The course management needs to do a much better job of instructing and/or teaching the greens crew how to deal with playing/paying guests when they are in the vicinity of players.
The bunkers were inconsistent; some had much to much sand while others were virtually barren as if one was playing a shot from a hard pan lie.
The course needs to create a booklet that provides information for the hole including distance to different land marks etc and especially the greens with details providing depth and width of the greens not simply red, white and blue flags to indicate front, middle and back pin placement as they are of not much help without the knowledge of the greens width and length of the green. In 7 instances I found myself putting from 50 or 60 feet simply because I did not have an accurate distance (because I was guessing).
I would play the course again in the future @ the same price but not pay much more.
Rough Winter affected course condition
Always enjoy playing Lionhead but Winter took it's toll on the course this year. Greens were not in very good condition but some other Toronto courses are much worse due to Ice Storm and colder than normal winter. I am sure that lionhead will be in better condition in a month or so.
Challenging
This is a nice course, but there's NO way I'd pay the $155 full rate. And you've got to be kidding, range balls not included? The fairways are in decent shape, but the greens did not winter well at all. Very poor. Cart paths are in rough shape. Where is Kaneff spending the money? Not on maintenance. I paid $49 with a 'hot deal' & I wouldn't pay much more. Value for the money rating is because of the deal I got. I would recommend this course but only at the discounted rate.
