Lionhead Golf and Country Club - Masters
About
The Masters Course at Lionhead Golf & Country Club is ideal for golfers who don't feel they are prepared to take on the demanding Legends Course at the club, which has been ranked as one of the toughest courses in North America. The Masters layout is similar to golf courses in Florida, with unique bunkers and scenic ponds that meld perfectly with the rolling hills and wetlands that dot the scenic landscape. Its more traditional layout is considered the kinder and gentler of the two golf courses at Lionhead Golf & Country Club, but there are still a fair amount of challenges. The Masters course requires several long carries over water, particularly on the 16th. This infamous par 5 features a green surrounded by water.

Great course.
Great course and challenge.
Will definitely play it again.
Overall Impression
Played on Masters Course. Many of the greens were severely damaged from the icy winter. Difficult to get a smooth roll on some putts. Depending on pin location, ball will skip along the way to hole. Renovations outside pro shop currently. Staff friendly. Good value for money from Golf Now.
Excellent condition
Golf course in great shape. Rained hard in the morning so kept most golfers home. Course was almost empty.
Great value, great service, fun course.
Only minor complaint - some of the bunkers could use a bit of sand.
SLOWWWW Play
Nice course but when it takes over 5 hours to play, it doesn't matter how nice the people are or how good the course is. Not sure if it's always like this, but will definitely look elsewhere for my golf.
Hurry up and wait
Every hole we had to wait for nearly every shot. People behind us pushing; people in front wating.
No marshalls moved any one along. At one point, we were waiting at the tee blocks, the guys ahead were waiting to tee off. the guys behind were waiting with us as well. Beautiful course.Poorly marshalled.
Kind of disappointed.
Military Precision... Until you hit he Second Tee!
The course was beautiful but the pace was horrendous! We teed off and finished our front nine after a Scorching 3 hrs! No Marshall's on the front 9 what so ever.
Wouldn't return for a mid day tee time!
Very challenging course
Played this course on June 30th. It was a really hot and humid day, which made it even more challenging. One of the toughest but prettiest course I've ever played. Staff were very professional and pleasant. Hope to play it again soon.
Excellent condition & value
Excellent day with two USA colleagues. We had 8:30 AM tee off on Masters. No one close to us all day.
A tremendous experience!
We want Marshall
This was a 5 hr and 31 minute round from tee off to finish. There was not one Marshall and the course was in pretty good shape considering our winter. Nobody repairing divots, ball marks, raking sand in traps. Hold golfers accountable..I don't get it and to me it seems they care more about slotting in golfers.
I can't understand how golfers can play so long and I really believe courses should take it upon themselves to police this matter. Have all golfers in Canada go to a classroom course on etiquette, standards, how to play, rules for tournaments and then explain you don't need to walk back to tees to hit another ball during simple rounds of golf. Then 1 5 hr session at a local golf course, teaching divot replacement, speed of play, practice swing max of 3....golfers used to be afraid to do something against club rules. Now there seem to be zero rules and no one gets kicked off courses.
I would volunteer 2 days to do a course and then get evaluated at a local course. It will eat up some of my time but it will make golf better for the long run. Golf needs a new voice
Father's Day Flop
Played the Master's on Father's day and teed off at 6:24am. We didn't finish until after 11 o'clock and the group in front of us was well over a hole behind throughout the game. We didn't see a marshall once. After the round, I voiced my concern over the slow play to the head professional who said, "it is father's day and we are very busy." When I indicated that it had taken us 4hours and 40 minutes to play he said " well our standard of play is 4 hours and 52 minutes". This is a ridiculous answer for a high end challenging course when you start shortly after 6am on a Sunday. Also, teh greens were in bad shap. Disappointing outting.
bumpy greens
For an elite golf course I found the greens in poor condition. Also thought the sand bunkers could of used more sand. Very hard for green side bunkers.
Unfortunately winter got the better of this course
This was my 4th round of the season and have to say the course conditions where the poorest I've seen so far. Putting greens were pretty rough and we found that even the fairways were in bad shape. Unfortunately winter got the better of this course. For the money, I believe there are better options available
last minute changes
Upon arriving at Lionhead we were notified that we were to play the Legends 18 and not the Masters 18 as there was topdressing scheduled for the greens on the Masters 18. Obviously this was the case for all golfers that morning. This resulted in a later tee off time than we had booked and made for a slower round as many 4somes were tightly packed playing the one course instead of both. We had booked the Masters course because it is a beautiful course that we have rarely played. We were VERY DISAPPOINTED to have not been notified earlier of this change and would have preferred to reschedule our round. Poor decision on Managements behalf as I am sure it was not a last minute decision to shut down 18 holes for maintenance. I cannot afford expensive rounds very often and this was one of my few rounds at a "special" course.
pricing
I chose the course because I liked the posted rate
the add-ons were 20%
no one likes surprises
a lot of items, like airline fares have to post gross rates
I think your customers would be most appreciative of this
Felt cheated
It amazes me how these golf courses charge full price for courses that are in terrible shape. I realize and apprieciate the bad winter we had but why are they still charging full price? At the very least they should be offering some compensation.
Nice course BUT.......
So. Let me start by saying I like the Masters course at this club. I typically book with Golf Now when playing here as the deals are great. I would start of by saying that if you were paying the standard green fee of 155.00 a round you would be deeply disappointed.
- 7 of the greens are in terrible shape
- 7 are in decent shape
-4 are in great shape
I estimate around 5 holes had sections that was like hitting off concrete
So to summarize, If I had to cough up 155.00 for a round I would be angered. I did not, I paid 70 and was slightly disappointed. The facility is fantastic and I will give the staff a great review as they deserve but I go there for golf and the course was not a 155.00 course in the current condition.
Very tough course
Really makes you think on some holes, greens are still recovering from the rough winter
