Lionhead Golf and Country Club - Masters
About
The Masters Course at Lionhead Golf & Country Club is ideal for golfers who don't feel they are prepared to take on the demanding Legends Course at the club, which has been ranked as one of the toughest courses in North America. The Masters layout is similar to golf courses in Florida, with unique bunkers and scenic ponds that meld perfectly with the rolling hills and wetlands that dot the scenic landscape. Its more traditional layout is considered the kinder and gentler of the two golf courses at Lionhead Golf & Country Club, but there are still a fair amount of challenges. The Masters course requires several long carries over water, particularly on the 16th. This infamous par 5 features a green surrounded by water.

Good value for price!
On Sat went to Banty Roost nobody was there because the forecast called for showers the rate was $68 with cart (crazy) so I offered him a deal 3 guys $50 each with cart and he refused lol.... Looked on golfnow and lionhead was $59 with cart way better value for price... After I booked the guy from banty roost said he will take the deal but to late already booked lionhead... Had a beautiful game that day...
Spring Conditions
It is spring so not expecting best conditions yet but the greens were just terrible and didnt weather very well; most greens were a least 50% damaged. They were top-dressed but some just had a thick layer of sand which you couldnt putt through. Fairways were pretty good and were fairly dry.
Starters were too busy talking then to ensure timely directions to get to first tee. Pace of play was slow.
Hoping that course can recover!
winter took it's toll
because of the brutally hard winter and ice storm, all courses are struggling to repair the damage done over the last 5 months. Lionhead is no exception, and due to all the trees on and around the course, it may have suffered worse than most. Hundreds of trees damaged or lost from the ice storm and lots of winter kill on the greens......but I have no doubt it will bounce back over the next month or two. If you play this course over the next month or so, keep in mind that mother nature is to blame, not course superintendents. The course is very playable, just not the same course you may have played last year. Ground crews are busy cleaning up the remainder of the tree debris around the outskirts of the course and between holes. Due to winter kill on many of the greens, that element will also affect your round. Also, the clubhouse is under a major renovation right now. Make sure you pay your green fee according to these set-backs, all of which will play a roll in your booking and experience there this spring.
Lionshead Masters
one of only a few courses that was open mid April. Not only has it suffered great damage due to ice storms this winter, but the clubhouse is undergoing extensive renovations. Additionally, recent residential developments have greatly diminished its rural appeal. Was disappointed.
Abysmal conditions., profoundly greedy owner
Few courses were open in West GTA in mid April so I got sucked into paying $100(!) for about as pathetically conditioned a course as I have ever played in my life. When I say this please consider that as a senior I have played over 200 courses in 12 different countries in North America and Europe so I have a pretty good idea of what constitutes horrible conditions.
Yes, the GTA suffered a rotten and long winter and yes there was a major ice storm in December which devastated trees throughout southern Ontario.
The result at Lionhead is a course that is not nearly ready for play. The greens are a beige , bumpy joke. The fairways are winter murdered with either patches of dangerously wet, slippery swampland or riddled with millions of twigs that have not been cleared since December.
And to top it all off, the washrooms are not even open.
I understand that it was a ridiculously challenging winter. Fine. Either do not open your course until it barely exceeds the level of embarrassment or do not greedily ask us to pay $100 for the privilege of playing your worthless piece of garbage.
Your greed is disgusting.
If you want a challenge, this is your golf course
A little too difficult for me (14 HCP).
The greens were uncharacteristically slow and bumpy/
Beautiful and top notch!
We got a great deal for a very expensive course, on GolfNow! It is kne if my favorite places to play, and yhe GolfNow deal made it affordable, which it is usually not! Both courses are a must play, day hey rank among the toughest in Ontario!
As good as a ClubLink course
Thanks to the Mr. Nice Guy starter, my group played in the Legend course rather than the Master's we booked, and it sure was one of those happiest moments in your golf life even though it was a bit chilly because of the intermittent rain. The creek that you have to cross several times can be a bit intimidating, but you can survive if you're not being a dare-devil. Thanks, Mr. Nice Guy!
Should they still be charging top dollar?
To be fair, it is November and it did rain a fair bit but this course simply is not maintained. Leaves everywhere, fluffy and bumpy greens, ball marks everywhere, traps were leaf catchers, tee boxes an absolute mess. It looks like the grounds keepers are waiting in the sheds until they shut down. Shame as there were some interesting holes on this course. I haven't played the Legends course yet but I can see why they call the Masters the kinder, gentler course. Pretty straight forward, and able to get around it keeping my driver in the bag.
Played this course the day after we had lots of rain
The course was extremely wet in a lot of places and did not dry out enough even a day later. It was a good value because of the Golf Now deal but would have been disappointed if I had paid full price.
Loved it, can't wait to play there again
Great value and well maintained golf course. The fair way is very well gloomed compared to other courses. Staff is very helpful and did not give attitudes even you booked for the first time. Overall, I will go back to play a few more round if time allow.
Feeback
Onsite Marshall is recommended for an attention: several groups/beginner golfers caused unnecessary line up
Usually Great But Not This Time
I enjoy playing Lionhead - have done so about a handful of times - however, from the disorganized approach with the supposed starter to the state of the tee boxes, I was disappointed. I would strongly recommend that the staff assess their approach, in particular, leading up to a long weekend & specially in the fall when the accumulation of leaves makes finding the ball difficult if the shot misses the fairway. The course overall is still challenging and I may come back just because of a Golf Now deal.
Good course but badly trained grounds keepers and starter
I like this golf course, but the staff on the grounds are not properly trained. They keep on cutting while you want to hit, they stay right in the fairway in your landing area and continue cutting. On a tee box we had to wait for them to finish cutting it, they did not stop to let us hit. The starter was nice, but they are volunteers and do not understand how to let a young twosome of 2 guys tee off ahead of an elderly foursome when there is no one ahead on the course. Small things, but they get annoying, it is too bad because the courses at lionhead are nice, but it is run poorly.
Course in great shape for time of year. Not too much water however several blind shots since it was our first time playing the course - Masters
Play was slow . We are a 2 some playing behind a 4 sum. They played poorly and would not let us go ahead. There were several holes open in front of them. Marshall told them several times to speedup but they just ignored. Otherwise a very enjoyable especially since the weather was ideal
Slow Slower Slowest!!!!! One of the worst Rounds I have ever Played. Do not waste your money!
Big Money. Little Value. If you want a 5 1/2 hour round be my guest.
very poor staff and 3 hrs to play the 1st nine holes.
It took us 3 hrs to play the 1st nine. We went over to the club house and complained rather dismissive, suggested we replay the 1st nine or switch to the other course.
They could have very easily accommodated us on the other course, which would have resolved the problem atb the start.
Slow Play
It took one hour to play 3 holes to findfFour groups on number 4. Walked off went home. No raincheck offered. Won't be back.
OK but not worthy of the hype.
Nice course good holes Somewhat forgettable. It lacked character or a statement about what it wanted to be remembered as.
Good greens A couple of tricked up holes.
Very slow play 8 minute tee times is just stupid. No real marshaling No control of tees players played.
Overpriced.
I would go back but not my first choice
Fair test for intermediate and advanced golfer
Staff is friendly and helpful - lots of parking with shuttle - course condition excellent with good signage and carts well equipped with ball washer etc. - pace of play excessive on tournament days - facilities top rate - best deal in town when discounted on GolfNow.
