The greens and most fairways are in pretty good shape
Course was in pretty good condition except for the 17th fairway was real soggy and marshy due to poor drainage and the fact that it rained the day before. Also the club house at this time is only a trailer so hopefully they'll build their club house soon. As it stands now you can only drink soda at the 19th hole. I don't know if that will change if the club house is ever built. The only other negative is the parking lot is dirt and so are about half the cart paths.
Best deal around!
A challenging layout. Course conditions are improving every time I play. When the course opened the fairways and greens were hard and you could count on the "Battlefield bounce" to carry your ball in all sorts of directions. Now the fairways and greens are much better. If you haven't played in a while come back and see for yourself.
Good value
This course was in decent shape. We played right after big storm so it was cart path only. Even with all the rain it was in good enough shape to be fun and challenging. Most holes are not very long so play is fairly quick. I really liked that it is very scenic and does not have any houses on it. You really feel your away from it all. Finally, the price is great! It is well worth the cost.
Needs Improvements
Tee times were very close together. As we waiting for others to putt there were others teeing off. Also the groundsmen never bothered to stop mowing while we were playing. Club house is a trailer and bathrooms are port-a-potties. Links style course and felt as if the lay out was poorly designed. several times we had to ride up the hole to find out which way the tee was because you could not see them from the tee box. Not worth it. Could play nicer courses for the money. Will not be back.
Good Time
Good course and great for the money. Fast pace and staff was very good. I would recommand playing.
Enjoyable
Nice course, wide open, no trees and some water. Fairways and greens well kept. Minimum facilities, still in a trailer. If really hot not sure I'd play it. Worth the $20 rate I paid.
Nice course
Great day for golfing. Challenging course. But, certainly not HARD.
Battlefield GC
Very mediocre public course. Poor grass condition on fairways. Worse greens I've played on in years. Greens heavily checker-boarded so no true running putts. Received good GolfNow price, but not likely I will return. Too many other public courses around the VB/Chesapeake area that are better taken care of.
This course is good and on track to be great
The pace was excellent. The course conditions would have been excellent except for the recent aeration of the greens(an occasional necessary evil).
They apparently are preparing to build a real club house. The current lack of a club houses is the only big negative of this course. The actual golfing is great. I would like them to plant a few more trees, shade is hard to come by on this course.
Barry's review
Played 7 or 8 times. Course does not fit my eye for some reason
Could not tell where the fairways stoped and the rough ended
Staff was really nice BUT in my opinion the course is unplayable. It was like playing on a cow pasture
Will be fine after construction finishes
Course just needs to mature --- construction needs to finish --- grass need to fill out....plays longer as it was pretty breezy..
Battlefield Struggle
The course has potential to be a good course. I just happened to play it earily in the season and the day after it rained. Some places the course looks as it is still under construction. It also doesn't drain to well. Holes 16 and 17 were completely under water. I'm going to play again later in the season to fairly access it!
Ok course
Good course for the money. Wide open. Dirt parking lot is terrible since car gets filthy dusting. Will play again. No beer sales is not good
greens are stupid fast
we played in 15 mph winds ,gusting to 25. Course is wide open so it was challenging but the greens were very dry and hard so they were very fast. . All approach shots had to be short to roll onto greens or your ball would bounce off.
Course shows many improvements with new sod and cart paths but it needs time to heal.
price is great and staff was friendly.
Great value
Staff are accommodating and courteous. ..green are good. Sneaky fast
Under Construction And No Facilities
Let me preface the review with the course has potential, but it is not there yet The course is in a state of construction. I will not play this course again until the construction is complete. There are just too many better courses in the area for the same green fee.
Of note, the clubhouse is a temporary trailer with a pair of port-a-johns for restrooms. The cart paths are also very rough with many pot holes. Lastly, the goose population is huge. Meaning there was goose droppings everywhere, which included greens and tee boxes.
Positives include very consistent and smooth greens. The course is on it's way to getting better, but it may take a little more time.
great value, excellent course!
There was some lanscaping in progress on a couple of the front 9 holes but other than that it's a great value and fun course to play, greens were true and fast, weather was perfect.
