Great course
Course is in great condition and fun to play. Pace of play and abilty to finish a round under 3 1/2 hours means you can get out just about anytime.
battlefield golf course
Paid 9 dollars. Worth about that much. Dont go out of your way to play here.
Well laid out links course
The course appears to be relatively new? It is well maintained. Large greens. Plenty of trouble-- enough to challenge even a good golfer.
SOmething different
No other course in the area looks and plays like this. Much like a traditional links course. A few challenging carries. Greens are fair but deceptive breaks. Lots of fun.
Had such a great time on Thursday, we are playing again on Saturday
Fun course, challenging holes. The fairways were in perfect shape and the rough was forgiving. Super fast greens
Very good course for the price. Have played it several times because of the combination of condition and cost.
We have played this course three times. All three times the course has been in fair to very good shape. The staff is cordial but not overly outgoing. There is no running water on site so bring your own ice and water. Water buckets on the course are minimal. Water availability is about the only negative and easily fixed if you know beforehand and come prepared.
Golfer friendly course
The course was ready when I arrived and no delays on getting on the course. It was a Sunday so the course was full. This is a very golfer friendly course.
Checked out course for company function
I work for a Fortune 200 company in the area and wanted to check out the course for a future function in which we were bringing executives from around the country to golf. The course was adequate, however, the staff was extremely unprofessional, unorganized and condescending. Unfortunately the staff's attitude was indicative of the course manager. The Marshals had to run everything thru the manager. The day was started with being informed regardless if you play 9 holes or 18 the price is the same! In addition, it was Memorial Day and they offered no Military Discount.
The course has improved vastly in he last two years. It has made tremendous changes.
The heavy rains came and we had to leave after sevens holes. I did not ask for a raincheck and figured the course did not give them for third party purchases. Other courses in the area, Red Wing, Cahoon Plantation, Westlake, Virginia Beach National, Herron's Ridge.
Work in progress, but on it's way
Like the other reviewers have said, Battlefield Golf Club is in a period of having A LOT of work done to the course. They have finished laying all of the sod, started paving a lot of the cart paths that were once dirt, etc. Some tee boxes are still moved up, but only a few.
Course itself is in pretty good shape, greens are fast, bunkers are pretty packed down and hard. But the elevation level changes are what makes this course fun for me. The greens are challenging and fun.
The course is the cheapest around, which makes it my go to. Gas powered carts, along with a very friendly staff make this an enjoyable place to play.
Good for the price
I played this course when it was first made and it has improved ten fold. The tee boxes and fairways are in good condition however the greens are very hard and fast. I hit a very high loft wedge about 100 yards out and didn't make any sort of divet in the green. I loved the breaks in the putts though because many courses around here have relatively flat greens. While this is the cheapest course to play in the area, it plays like one priced at average to above average.
WORK IN PROGRESS BUT COMING ALONG.
LAYOUT OF THE COURSE IS FUN. GREENS ARE SUPER FAST. SOME CONSTRUCTION GOING ON SO TRY NOT TO HIT INTO AREAS THAT SAY KEEP OFF GRASS. WILL HAVE TO TAKE A DROP ON THOSE AREAS. WORK BEING DONE ON SOME AREAS. LIKE I SAID, A WORK IN PROGRESS. THAT BEING SAID CANT WAIT TO SEE THE FINISHED PRODUCT ONCE IT IS COMPLETE.
Hit or miss?
Quite a bit of work has been done to this course and initial impression is that it will be a nice course once it comes around. Several areas though had sod laid, but it wasn't maintained, leaving it rock hard with gaps. The twosome that we played with brought up a possible reason it has taken so long to get this course up (clubhouse has yet to be built) is because of lawsuits from fly ash, which the course was built on. Possible health issues to local residents and those that built the course. $15 bucks for a Saturday round sounds great on the surface for a course that has pretty good potential... but is it worth it in the long run?
course is getting better all the time
decent course waiting to see the finished product after all the work is completed
Wide open course with several water hazards.
The course was maintained, but obviously in between seasons...fairway grass was brown, but maintained well. I will play the course this summer to see how it is with green grass
Great bang for the buck.
Great course for the amount you pay. 15 bucks with cart on a Saturday is definitely worth it.
Not to bad for the money spent.
The course is in better shape then it has been in the past and it seems to be getting better. A few "coulb be better" areas, but still in decent shape. For the money it cost to play, it's worth it. A clubhouse with real rerstrooms and a snack shop would greatly benefit the place.
None of us liked how hard the greens were, the ball would not stick but bounce or roll off and the ground was very hard to push the tees

Great value.
Course looks like it was built on a landfill and is a bit barren.
place these holes through some trees and it would be an awesome layout. Relaxing course to play for golfers of all skill levels
