course is great, conditions have vastly improved since opening.
In enjoy playing the Battlefield, people their are great, the pro is an excellent instructor.
great value
This course is all about playing golf. Plenty of water hazards and not a tree over 10 foot high so no leaves this time of year to make finding your ball difficult.. There is not a club house or any amenities. Come prepared.
Love the course layout, constantly gives you different challenges in the course layout, hills, water, etc.
I will be back, and hopefully beat the course, everyone is friendly, you will enjoy it. Presently greens are brown and fast, and I am sure it is the weather change, course has a lot of potential and I wish them all the best, had fun!
course is in good condition, water on many hole makes for a real challeng
I like a course that makes one play smart, and with a challenge to it, and this is what this course give you. greens are in good condition. If you like a course that will challenge you i think this one is one.of those course.
Really enjoyed this course.
The practice green is large and has far more slope variation than the other courses around here. The greens on the course were in excellent shape. This course substitutes trees for lots of mounds creating lies you tend not to find also. Lots of shots from off the side of a hill penalizing you for missing the fairways. The bunker sand was good quality and well maintained.
Great deal the money!
We played 5 consecutive rounds of golf at 5 different courses while vacationing in Virginia and this course has the potential of being a little "diamond in the rough". Nice layout, decent fairways, and nice greens. We were a little skeptical about what we were in for when we got such a good deal on golf now, but we were very pleased. The course isn't that old and they are still working out of a trailer for a club house, but if they take care of those fairways, it's really going to be a great place to golf. We would definitely play this course again.
I like this course
I am just returning to golf after a 25 year hiatus. I recently played another course that is more expensive but wasn't in nearly this good shape. I'm very happy with Battlefield and I plan on playing it often.
Certainly Not Augusta
Battlefield is a fun course to play and while you can get into trouble on a few holes (water), the majority of the holes are extremely open and receptive to bad shots. Greens do need attention but it's obvious the grounds work (fairways and rough) completed over the past year or so is starting to pay dividends. The course is looking good, pace of play is really fast (even when the course is crowded) and best of all, it's fun to play. Staff is friendly and accommodating. It's well worth the cost of the green fees and driving time to the course. I'll certainly be back.
Great Price … Great Course …
This Course is a very nice course. The Fairways and Greens are in Great Shape. Links style wide open course with pot bunkers, hills, different grasses, water, and No trees, makes for a fun / challenging round of golf. I will definitely play this course again. A+++ for the price we got on Golf Now … Only thing missing is a snack bar or beverage cart … Other than that, a Great Course ..
Great course
Course is in great condition and fun to play. Pace of play and abilty to finish a round under 3 1/2 hours means you can get out just about anytime.
battlefield golf course
Paid 9 dollars. Worth about that much. Dont go out of your way to play here.
Well laid out links course
The course appears to be relatively new? It is well maintained. Large greens. Plenty of trouble-- enough to challenge even a good golfer.
SOmething different
No other course in the area looks and plays like this. Much like a traditional links course. A few challenging carries. Greens are fair but deceptive breaks. Lots of fun.
Had such a great time on Thursday, we are playing again on Saturday
Fun course, challenging holes. The fairways were in perfect shape and the rough was forgiving. Super fast greens
Very good course for the price. Have played it several times because of the combination of condition and cost.
We have played this course three times. All three times the course has been in fair to very good shape. The staff is cordial but not overly outgoing. There is no running water on site so bring your own ice and water. Water buckets on the course are minimal. Water availability is about the only negative and easily fixed if you know beforehand and come prepared.
Golfer friendly course
The course was ready when I arrived and no delays on getting on the course. It was a Sunday so the course was full. This is a very golfer friendly course.
Checked out course for company function
I work for a Fortune 200 company in the area and wanted to check out the course for a future function in which we were bringing executives from around the country to golf. The course was adequate, however, the staff was extremely unprofessional, unorganized and condescending. Unfortunately the staff's attitude was indicative of the course manager. The Marshals had to run everything thru the manager. The day was started with being informed regardless if you play 9 holes or 18 the price is the same! In addition, it was Memorial Day and they offered no Military Discount.
The course has improved vastly in he last two years. It has made tremendous changes.
The heavy rains came and we had to leave after sevens holes. I did not ask for a raincheck and figured the course did not give them for third party purchases. Other courses in the area, Red Wing, Cahoon Plantation, Westlake, Virginia Beach National, Herron's Ridge.
Work in progress, but on it's way
Like the other reviewers have said, Battlefield Golf Club is in a period of having A LOT of work done to the course. They have finished laying all of the sod, started paving a lot of the cart paths that were once dirt, etc. Some tee boxes are still moved up, but only a few.
Course itself is in pretty good shape, greens are fast, bunkers are pretty packed down and hard. But the elevation level changes are what makes this course fun for me. The greens are challenging and fun.
The course is the cheapest around, which makes it my go to. Gas powered carts, along with a very friendly staff make this an enjoyable place to play.
Good for the price
I played this course when it was first made and it has improved ten fold. The tee boxes and fairways are in good condition however the greens are very hard and fast. I hit a very high loft wedge about 100 yards out and didn't make any sort of divet in the green. I loved the breaks in the putts though because many courses around here have relatively flat greens. While this is the cheapest course to play in the area, it plays like one priced at average to above average.
