A Fun Challenge
Payed $25 to play in the afternoon. Fantastic practice facility along with an immaculate clubhouse. As a 2 handicap played from the tips. Unfortunately played while the greens were still healing from a fairly recent arifacation, but was still a fun experience. It was hot so I found it very accommodating how they had water stations on every hole. A fairly decent amount of slope on the fairways and if you miss the fairway the slopes feed the ball into to desert areas. Well bunkered course with huge greens. A great mix of challenging holes along with holes which give you plenty of options, overall a very unique and fun layout.
poor condition for even this time of year
i was excited to play this desert golf course for the first time. I moved from Chicago area less than a week ago and played at camelback course on Saturday. was happy to get out even though the temp was hitting 100. was surprised the weather was almost a non-factor as it is dry. so eager to play the course Phil Mickelson teed off first on, I booked as a single and got paired up with 2 guys from the area. I knew the greens were aerated 2 weeks ago and generally 2 weeks is good enough to have the condition back to almost normal condition. when I got to the course the practice green were really bad. I was hoping the course greens were in better condition. really surprised there was no GPS on the carts!! very hard to find yard markers on the course, didn't know the distance to hit. got to first green--
terrible condition !!! aerated holes were not only very visible, there weren't much grass on top of it....the whole course was lacking grass---fairways and greens !! to top that off, there is a giant power line going thru the whole course as it looks like divides the course in two.....power lines did not come into play but was a eye sore. I did love the layout of the course as it was my first "desert golf" as only seen on TV. with the reputation they have at this course, they need to do a better job even for summer golfers. much disappointed after reading the reviews
last thig----no cart girl----.
Awesome course
Love playing this course. Wide open, great staff, great value. Only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the greens had recently been punched, but I knew that going into it. For $20 I couldn't get too hung up on the greens, not to mention it gave me an excuse for missing putts.
Aerated but excellent.
I went for a summer afternoon tee time just five days after they aerated their greens. The greens rolled great for having just gone thru the process so when their fully in it'll be amazing.
The course was in fantastic shape. Very playable with a few holes that you've really gotta grind through.
Thin fairways
During the winter months MM charges upper income level green fees, so I do not play the course until summer rates go into effect. I would think with all of the money they made over the winter that they could have done a better job of over seeding the fairways, which were sparse and often just "clumps" of dry grass in many places in the middle of the fairway. If the folks at MM would like to see how a course can be maintained in the summer, thy should go out to our MUNICIPAL course Papago and talk to those folks. That course is in great shape. I think the course could be restored if management would put some water to it- but that would mean spending money.
Fun and challenging
The greens were airified but still rolled pretty good. Overall a nice day.
Too Hot to Handle
On a day where it was over 105, and the ice melts in the cooler faster than your play, you know it is hot. But it is nice where there are only a few on the course and you have it all to yourself.
punched and sanded
Very disappointed when I a saw my approach shot land on the green and a puff of sand came up. This was the first time I played the course since the remodel and the last. It was my mistake though, I didn't see the notice on golfnow stating that the greens were punched on 6/2. I won't be back
Desert challenge
Enjoyed our round on this track. Lots of drinking water on course for summer play. Very friendly and helpful staff is an added plus. Challenging greens to make every approach shot important for placement. Will play again and encourage other friends to play.
Always a great place to play
course in good shape. I visit here twice a year and enjoy playing this course at least once each visit
Great course
Staff is very friendly. Treated like a member of a club. Course is in pretty good condition as well. Holes are challenging but fun. Fresh ice cold water on about every other hole. Mesquite grill is a great place to hang out and have some good or a drink after. Would definitely come back again!
the greens were in good shape
different set of tees make it playable for all types of golfers. deserts style of course but wide fairways help. played in 3hours
DISAPPOINTED
With all the mounding throughout the fairways, good shots were turned into bad. Ranger could use a lesson civility. At $70 a pop, over-priced.
Greens were in good condition
Group was allowed to jump in front of our group and creating a significant slow-down of us and groups behind us. Spoke with starter and asked them to start them on #1 hole as we did. Course did not indicate any interest in this type of situation.
Good desert course worth the money
Great value for money and course in good condition
Lots of improvements since being Sanctuary
Have played several times on our visit because we enjoyed it so much
OK course
My wife and I had been here before (Sanctuary) for lessons - this was the first time playing. The only real complaint was the pace of play. Before teeing off, the ranger emphasized this is a 4 hour course and we'll keep you on track. The front nine was about 4h15m, not too bad. Saw the ranger at least 3 times. Back nine was a different story. Then, when I mentioned the pace was very slow (we waited on every shot) he just started talking about how slow the front was. Personnel were very friendly, course moderately difficult, course was in good condition. I did think it was a bit overpriced. It is not nearly as scenic as one is led to believe.
Not my cup of tea
Played here on a very windy and not very busy day.
Course straddles a power line corridor which takes away from the enjoyment of the course. The wind blowing through the wires was very very loud and almost made you feel you like you were in post apocalyptic setting. Course has a lot of side hill fairways. Clubhouse and dining room/ bar were really well done and outshined the course by a long shot. Also a lot of non golfers waking on cart paths which tended to be distracting. Staff was great but will not return.
A great course with a great view!
This course was challenging and fun. It has a great view from almost every hole.
Challenging and fun!
Played on very windy day which made a tough course even more difficult. Greens are huge and lots of undulation so three puts are common.
Great layout and best to play with someone who has played the course multiple times. Bring a range finder!
Green fees are a bit pricy now but summer is coming.
Good Non-Desert Style Course
I carry a 16.5 GHIN and played the white tees, visiting from Seattle. Morning temperature in the mid 75-85. 4 Hour round. Really enjoyed the grass fairways. Challenge was to keep the ball in the fairway after it bounced another 30-60 yds off the drive due to hard grass. Sand was marginal in quality. Greens were the weakest part. Fast but not a good quality of grass like Legend Trails or even McCormick Ranch which I played earlier in the week. Beautiful clubhouse, bar, restaurant. I would definitely play this course again since I really don't enjoy the desert style placement courses like Legend Trail. Definitely recommend the cart included in green fees.
